Sunday Shenanigans

 I love Sundays!!!

Around here, this is a day that moves a little slower.  I like to think that God Himself pressed the "pause" button just long enough for us to take a deep breath and to spend more time in Worship of Him.

I love how Sunday's have a sacred rhythm.  I enjoy the morning light as it streams through my back french doors and how my coffee taste so much better today.....and how the sound of worship music fills my heart.  It is so wonderful to have a day to step away from the noise and draw closer to the one who holds it all together.

Spiritually, Sundays reset me.  They remind me that no matter how messy my Monday through Saturday may be, His mercies are brand new every morning.

I've shared why I love Sundays spiritually....how they slow me down, refill my soul, and point me back to God's grace...

Now it's your turn!!

Here is a quick, simple challenge....** Plus there will be a sweet, surprise give-away.... Don't forget to leave your name with your comment.  I will draw a name on Wednesday, so don't forget to stop back by on Wednesday to see who's name was drawn.

🍃 Share one thing that makes Sundays special for you.  Is it a favorite worship song? (Please share the title)..... a scripture, (Please share the verse).... a Sunday tradition, Please share.

1.  Leave your answer in your comment.....

2. Visit the blogger who commented above you and read their Sunday reflection

3. Leave them a comment and Encourage them with a kind word to carry with them through the next week.

4.  I will leave the first comment... this way, who ever is next will have ME to comment to.

Lets see if we can fill this post with gratitude, joy, kindness, and a whole lot of Sunday peace.

I'm looking forward to seeing what makes Sundays special for each of you...

Have fun!!

Shug.💚

  2. Since we don't have a church, Shug, we do have church here at home. When our son was alive, we did attend church and hubby or him would also have a short lesson. Hubby (a formal chaplain) is preparing the lesson as I write this. My favorite verse of all time is Proverbs 22:6. It is often very hard to keep that in mind, especially with all the bad stuff at where I work because most of the inmates have never had good family lives etc. Wishing you a beautiful day my friend.

    1. This is great Linda. Same here for Sam and I right now. He just does not feel well enough to attend services and not only that, his hearing is really an issue. He just can't seem to concentrate with all of the encephalopathy that is has right now. However, our Sunday morning worship is very special to us. Have a wonderful day and praying your week is Blessed.

  3. Sunday is special because we go to church. Today we sang "Do not be afraid". Here it is if you don't know it, sang by my friend Father Francis Maple.

The hymn is quite appropriate for these difficult times in the world.

Usually, we take it easy on Sundays and don't do any work.

God bless you and yours this Sunday and always.

    2. Thank you Victor. I listened to this song and how beautiful it is. As a matter of fact, I've already listened to it a few times. Very touching and left tears in my eyes. This is such a gently song with so much meaning. When you talk to your friend, please let him know that his music, his song touched my heart in a deep way.

    3. Hi Shug,

I have known Fr Francis for many years. He lives in Northern England and has often sung in malls, shopping centres, bus stations and in concerts to raise money for charity. He has raised over £1m over the years. I have put a number of his songs on You Tube - follow the list on the right hand side of the page here:

      God bless you, my friend.

  4. Our Sundays are quieter, a little more reflective. My favourite verses are Matthew 7:1 - 'Judge not that ye be not judged,' and Psalm 23.

  5. Sunday is actually my favorite day of the week. And for so many reasons....no appts. no bills, just the sound of the doves coooing in the distance while I drink my morning coffee. Yes, it does seem to taste better on this day, you're right. I don't listen to worship music, as I love the old hymns that were sung in my church. One of them is "Eat this bread, drink this cup." It's a beautiful song. I hope this Sunday brings you peace and comfort and love. You are going through trying times right now, and you show grace in all the messiness. Bless you, Shug.

    1. Sounds like such a sweet day...especially listening to the doves, We have sung this very song many times. You just can't beat the old songs from the hymnals. This is the music I grew up with and even though many of the younger people are more into the Worship and Praise, I prefer "Give me that Old Time Religion " kind of music. Thank you for keeping us in your prayers..

  6. Our Sundays are usually quiet days, we sometimes watch the live stream of our old church...they have a really bad sound system so sometimes it is impossible to hear. My favorite hymn goes... I am but a stranger here heaven is my home...I believe it is called Heaven is my Home. Or I love to tell the story...I have a story about that hymn. We love that old hymn and we were both member of the evangelism board at church and requested that the hymn be sung one Sunday...the Pastor said No we cannot sing it because it is not in The Lutheran Hymnal. Ok fine...we were able to copy the hymn because it is in the Public Domain and we proceeded to glue it to the inside of the back cover of all the hymnals...and then we sang that hymn for many years!!

    1. Hi Connie...I pulled this song up on YouTube and listened to it. So pretty and much more like the song that I love to hear and sing. I'm glad you were able to glue it into the hymnal and were able to enjoy it for all the years. Thank you for posting this in the comments... I will definitely be adding this to my song list.

  7. I feel nervous sharing this - For us, it's my husband's tradition, which we have followed since our marriage, has us observing Shabbat on the biblical Sabbath, which begins by lighting candles on Friday evening to welcome Adonai into our home. Saturday is usually our day to rest, read, study, or go out into nature or enjoy family. Sunday is the day we honor our Lord and Savior at our church through music, worship, and teaching through scripture, much like the early Christians who were Jews. They still met at the synagogue for the Sabbath and then met in each other's homes on Sunday as honoring the resurrection. The REAL focus should be on the spiritual rest we have in Jesus, rather than observing a specific day. We have freedom in Christ.

    1. No nervous feelings allowed Debby. We are all family in the blogging world and although we all may have different ways of meeting with God, we all respect each other's way of fellowship and serving the Lord. Your Saturday's and Sunday's sound like they are full of peace and this is what more of us need. thanks for sharing.

  8. Sundays are special for many reasons. I love going to church and seeing my church family, having worship time and hearing our pastor. Today we had a potluck after church and that's always fun too. Then it's usually a quiet and peaceful afternoon.
I like your thought of God pressing pause. We need that sometimes!
    Great post!

    1. Hi Mari. I love that you all have a church where pot dinners/lunches still occur. Sounds like my kind of church and my kind of Sunday afternoon. We have so many mega churches around here and I miss the small country church that I grew up in.

  9. When Danny and I married 20 years ago, he was leading the contemporary service at the Methodist church we then attended, and because God also graced me with a singing talent, I became part of that team. Such glorious times when we both learned so many Christian songs together. We now attend a small church close to home and gladly contribute to their music ministry when they need us; that used to be twice a month, but since Danny's been I'll, we haven't been able to attend. Boy, do we miss our church family! We're hoping to get back to the services by the end of this month or the first week in September. There are so many songs that I love, that I simply can't choose one to be a favorite. I did love reading everyone's comments on why Sunday is special and the family traditions they practice. Sunday afternoons? It's time for quiet and reflecting upon God's blessings. Thanks for this post, Shug!

    1. What I love about your comment is that I found out that you can sing. These are the small things about each other that we don't always know. This is great that you and Danny are talented and enjoy giving your talents to the church.. Praying you both can get back in the services.

  15. "I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart, I will enter His courts with praise, I will say this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice for He has made me glad.' (from Psalm 100:4) "This is the the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it..." Psalm 118:24. Those are some verses/songs that speak to the way I feel about Sunday. It is the day that the Lord has made, and whether or not we can go to church, I will rejoice and be glad in it. Sometimes lately we haven't been able to go to church, but we still take time to worship the Lord and give Him praise, whether it be in reading His Word, or in singing a song, or just being quiet and observing His beautiful creation around us and giving Him thanks for all He has done. Sundays were always kind of hectic for us during our years serving in the ministry. There really wasn't time to call it a day of rest. We had Sunday School, church, and then also an evening service and/or youth group. My husband was the Pastor and I was often either teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and/or leading the youth. We'd crash in between services after lunch. Those days are over now, and we make our Sundays much more peaceful. We look forward to being with our church family in the morning, and sometimes our own family in the afternoon, but we try to always rest. And we don't attend an evening service anymore. It is the Lord's Day, and we are thankful for His day of rest. Right now I am thankful to be sitting here reading these responses and enjoying the fellowship of our fellow bloggers. Thank you for doing this, Shug. This was very special.

  16. What a great idea, Shug. I don't know who is above me. I'll look after commenting. Sundays are restful here. Somehow it is a different kind of day, isn't it? That's what I would say about it, rest. It's the attitude of the day itself or seems to be. 😀🌹

  17. As a pastor's wife for 50+ years, Sunday was never a day of rest but still a day I loved. Music has always been a blessing to me, whether it's choir, singing with a group of ladies, trio, or duet. I love lots of songs, but right now I'd say Before the Throne of God Above or anything by the Gettys. I don't have a blog but read many of the ladies who've commented here. Blessings in the week ahead . . .

  19. I truly am thankful for Sundays. it is the time of refreshment for me. I love sitting next to my Granddaughter and her husband and son and daughter in law and all singing together. I love the times we go out to have breakfast after the service. Its our time to catch up on the life of the week. Even though it was so hot outside it was cool and comforting indoors.
We were also blessed to take an afternoon snooze. After all Sunday is the Day of Rest.

  20. What a splendid initiative, Shug! Since moving here 7 years ago, my Sundays have totally eclipsed. Instead of a family bbq -- or even vegging -- I look forward to seeing my church family ... exchanging smiles and hugs. Those things that matter. Pastor Janet's sermon may (or may not) always resonate, but worshiping with my soul sistas and bros is the best feeling ever!

  21. Now that I'm not working my old job Sundays are my slow down and regroup day. They are the day that I move a little slower and savor the moment of whatever I'm doing.
I used to love to sit outside and listen to the church bells playing old hymns that I could sing along to. These days they don't sound the same but they still ring out the reminder that God is there to watch out for me.
