Tax Free Weekend

I had no intentions of going into town on Saturday....when I say town, I mean the nearest big city from where I live.  LOL..it is only 10 miles away from our small little town.

My plan was to stay home...finish our pear project, avoid any crowds and just hang out with Sam.  BUT...(this is certainly a big 3 letter word when it comes to a conversation) BUT.... we (Sam and I) decided to make a quick run to the grocery store and grab a sandwich for dinner that evening.  Simple enough, right?

Since we were already in town, I thought, Why not swing by Dillard's real quick?  The store was having a shoe sale, and I wanted to pick up a pair for my granddaughter (Tori.) She just finished here classes to become a dental assistant (proud Shug moment) and started her new job last week.  The staff is required to wear black slacks, closed-toe dress shoes, and blouses provided by the Dental office.  (Tori will also be attending college to work on  her degree to be a Dental Hygienist.)

Easy enough...get in, get the shoes, get out!

Did I remember it was Tax-Free Weekend in Texas?  Absolutely not! Did I realize my mistake the second I walked in?  Absolutely Yes!

I knew exactly what shoes I wanted and in what size.  On a normal day, this would have been a 10-minute mission. But Saturday?  The check out lines were long and there were so many shoppers.  I could clearly see that the Back to school shopping rush was in progress.  It took me a good 40 minutes.

Still, as I stood in that crowd of bargain-hunting chaos, I couldn't help but smile.  Parents and kids alike were all shopping, looking for the best deals they could find on shoes.  All of this brought back memories of when my siblings and my parents would go to "K. Wolens" and do our back to school shopping.

K. Wolens was the only Department store around and all of our shopping could be done in this one store. When you are shopping for 4 kids, it was a blessing to have one stop shopping.

I finally walked out Dillards with the perfect shoes for my granddaughter and perhaps a tad bit more patience in my pocket.  My somewhat chaotic shopping trip was well worth it.  I mean, these are not just any pair of shoes that I purchased.....they are for a young women (whom I love deeply) stepping into her new career.  I know her future will be bright in this work field that she has chosen.

The positive side of me says.....This is great, this is fun, and I am thankful that I can do this for Tori.   Hey...crowded stores and the unexpected detours are just reminders that we all are just trying to find our footing....Tax free or Not..  😀

Sometimes the wait is just part of the gift!!

Shug...

  1. Our tax-free weekend was the first one of the month. As I didn't need to purchase anything I stayed away from the stores (which I figured was helping out those who really needed to be there).
