Texas Heat

For my blogging friends who live right here in Texas, you will so be able to relate to this post....TEXAS HEAT.

If you have ever spent a summer in Texas, you know it's not just weather....it's an experience!!  I can tell you it's the kind of experience that makes you consider frying an egg on your driveway just to see if it really works.  I can testify that it really does work!!  The sun here doesn't only shine, it drains you.

But... although I often complain about it, the Texas heat has a way of teaching us all a few lessons.

#1.  You want your patience tested?  Stand outside in the August heat and your patience will quickly be exposed.  It will show you just how thin your halo really is!!!

#2.  Resilience is built one sweaty step at a time.  The Texas summers remind us that resilience doesn't always look glamorous.  Around this house It looks like a very messy ponytail,  melted mascara and having the willpower not to yell at the thermostat.

#3. The heat teaches us that a cold slice of watermelon or a glass of iced sweet tea is worth every cent you pay for them.  $5.00, $10.00...these simple but yet necessary things are valuable.

#4. One very serious lesson to be learned is that the Texas heat can be very dangerous!!!  You have to slow down, pace yourself and stay hydrated.

The heat can be brutal, but it leaves us stronger and  more appreciative of every cool breeze that comes our way.  Life  can be a lot like that....sometimes overwhelming, sometimes hot and sticky AND uncomfortable, but always full of lessons.  Thank goodness for all the unexpected refreshments that come our way.  Thank goodness for our recent rains.

Hopefully some cooler air is on it's way this next week, but until it rolls through, I'll just be here with my sweet tea, watching my electric meter going round and round.

Happy Friday Everyone!!

Big Hugs to all....

  1. Good Morning! I always say this heat is not good for man or beast! It seems like God will use everything to teach us patience! Wanted to comment on your last post, it was so good! It feels like the enemy is trying to wear out the patience of His the saints!
We must be wise and take shelter under the shadow of the almighty! Blessings, Roxy

  2. Oh I hear you! While we don’t have the humidity we do have the heat. It was 108 yesterday but it was bearable if in the shade. No sweating! I have friends in Lake Jackson area and the first time I stepped outside the air terminal door to the outside the humidity hit me - felt like a sauna. I wasn’t prepared and almost passed out. But I do like Texas, always have. Just something about it!
I find the if I don’t look at the thermometer or fixate on the “number” I do better coping. But it’s hard when some texts you and tells you, “omg it’s 110 out”. 🥵 Then I’m done.
I also get tired of staying inside so much. It’s like cabin fever.
Hope you stay cool, keep hydrated and enjoy that swimming pool of yours.

  3. Being a native Texan and now living in Oklahoma, I can testify to all that! The weather is no different here in NE Oklahoma with the exception of having 98% humidity for much of the time! That is brutal! You feel like you should carry a bath towel and a can of deodorant with you at all times! Praying we both get relief soon!

    Grace & Peace,
    Pam

  4. As we get older, we do have to take extra care to stay hydrated if we have to be out in the heat for any length of time, that's for sure. Danny can't abide the heat here, so I know Texas wouldn't be livable for him. Stay cool, Shug!

  5. I'm far too much of a wimp to deal with that! It was 60 degrees here this morning, after last week being in the mid 90's. But, when it starts to cool off, I know that snow is in view. :(

  6. Your heat is epic. My Joe traveled to Texas on business, back in the day. Our heat is done!

  7. Oh Shug, sorry you're experiencing such heat. In my hometown, we would get days of 110, but here in the mountains, it usually doesn't get higher than the 90's. Yes, all the discomforting things we have to go through often help us to appreciate those little pleasures, like watermelon, which I haven't had yet this summer. I always wondered if frying an egg on the scorching hot driveway really works! I hope you get some cooler days, Shug. Nel used to love that sweet tea when she lived in Georgia. Your green side bar with the polka dots is delightful.

  8. Oh Shug, I did laugh when you mentioned .. watching the electric meter going round and round.
My aunt and uncle moved to Texas 20 years ago. They had to get use to the summers. I am not sure if they have tried frying an egg. ;-) I am happy you told us it does work.

  9. So ... my whining is teaching me patience? Yes, I guess it really is. I am trying to look on the positive side of life always but especially now. We have some issues that made my sleep very restless last night. Then my morning devotions said it in black and white. TRUST ME, and don't be afraid. I want you to view trials as exercise designed to develop your trust-muscles. When you start to feel afraid, affirm your trust in Me. Speak out loud, "Resist the devil in My Name, and he will slink away from you." Refresh, Sing or speak praises to Me, and My Face will shine radiantly upon you.

Incidentally, I did walk to the mailbox yesterday in the 104F temps and didn't melt. Unfortunately it was mostly junk mail... (:0)

  10. Do most people have a swimming pool? And your a/c - have to be big and powerful I imagine. I bet it is expensive though.

  12. Enjoy your tea and cool home, dear Shug! Here in Montreal from Monday to Wednesday, thank God, we have cooler temperatures. Today the heat is back, tomorrow as well, but thankfully next week it is supposed to be comfortable. Take good care of yourself, dear friend. Hugs.

  13. Haha I have been dying in the heat this summer. Looking forward to the cooler weather. It makes it much easier to get to work when it's not so hot! I have always been curious about frying an egg on the street haha.

  14. All those years living in Abilene and I never thought to fry an egg on the sidewalk! (Somebody DID bake cookies on the dash of her car in Phoenix, however!)
I hope everyone remembers to give thanks once Autumn arrives ... and while we're at it, a pack on the back for having endured.

  15. We were having similar weather in Missouri, but a cold front came through and now it's just typical August hot. I hope the same happens for you soon.

  16. thecontemplativecat here. We have lived in Illinois, Iowa, California desert, and Ireland. Ireland is where we never needed A/C or a fan. California desert is indescribable.
