Hodgepodge Wednesday

This is new for me and I truly hope that I can figure it all out......but today, I'm joining Joyce's Summer days and it's Hodgepodge!!

Joyce asks the Questions.

We answer the Questions.

1. The midpoint of summer (believe it or not) is August 7th. Describe a perfect summer day. Have you had one this year?

I had a week of perfect days when we visited my grandson and his family in Colorado!!  Some of my favorite things were riding the Cog train, visiting the town of Breckenridge, and putting my feet in the COLD water.

2. What's one thing you wish you knew before starting high school?

Awe....this is a big question! I wish I had known how to overcome my shyness! I was so very shy and it kept me from doing so many of the things that I would loved to have been involved in!!

3. What's something that bothers you if it's not done perfectly?

Another big one!!  I might have a touch of OCD which for me means that I have huge expectations for the outcome of daily happenings.  Particularly the upkeep of our yard and flowerbeds.

4. What's the most overrated food you're convinced people are just pretending to enjoy? What's a trendy food you actually do enjoy and would say is definitely not overrated?

LOL... Food/dessert....for me it is Ice Cream!  I could go all year long and not have Ice Cream.   The food that I enjoy the most is Texas Mexican food.  Everything about it.

5. Wrapping it up this week with five fun this or thats...

personal stylist or personal chef? I would say Personal Chef.
dance like nobody's watching or sing like nobody's listening? ....... Free Spirit..I would definitely join in on both of these

unlimited tacos or free pizza?  Tacos

bookshelf organization-by size or by genre? Size...it's an OCD thing

ten minutes late or ten minutes early? EARLY....never late

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Since it is still Summer and since school begins next week, I think I would like to express my opinion on this.  It is still Summer and in Texas (due to the heat) it is way too hot for kids to start school, football practices, Band practice (too hot to practice marching)....and the list goes on!  After all, Starting school after Labor day worked for us as kids and I think it could for kids today..

This was fun.....Shug.....

PS: I had problems including the link....perhaps I need help with this??  Sorry!!

  1. Hi Friend, I am happy you joined the Hodgepodge today. :-) It was fun to read your answers.
I probably should have picked Free Spirit too.. I would join you in both.
I agree with you about school starting way to soon. We always started after Labor Day as well.

  2. Hi…this is Joyce, the HP host. I’m on my phone which doesn’t let me post under my name for some reason even when I’m logged in to Google. I will come back later to visit and read answers but I was able to add your link so no worries. Glad you could join in!

  3. Yep, I agree with you 100%, Shug. School should start after the long Labor Day weekend and not before....like when we were kids. What happened??!! Love, Andrea xoxo

  4. I would never believe you were once shy. It’s clear you have outgrown it. I tend to have OCD myself. I’m learning to let go of a lot of the perfectionism that kept me in bondage - but I still wrestle with it. At least now, I know when I’m doing it and I try to let it go. Like the paint color on the garage door and wood trim not matching exactly. Part of the day it matches and another part of the day it doesn’t and it bugs me. 😬

  5. Glad you joined this. Like your answers. I would say to it is hard to believe you were shy - you seem so outgoing now. I also have some OCD - but I try not to bother others with it. You don't like ice cream? Oh my. My daughter started teaching two weeks ago! HOT!

  6. I enjoyed all your answers, Shug, and I hope you had fun doing the Hodgepodge. I have to confess that I've never joined in. Have a blessed day!

  7. This was interesting! Like you, I was shy in high school and I too wish I had gotten past it earlier. I also agree on ice cream. I rarely eat it, but keep some around for Bob. Now Mexican food? Yum - I'll go out with you any time!
I hate that school starts so early. Our grands start on August 15 and I feel like kids, teachers, parents lose a few weeks of summer fun because of it.

    1. Shyness can really hold a person back.. How did you overcome yours? Come on down to Texas...we have LOTS and LOTS of Mexican food restaurants. My daughters have already started back to school....I miss them when they do.

  9. I'm right there with you on school beginning so early now. Too hot !!!
So glad you aren't that shy flower any longer. I love your boldness on this blog.
Praying for Sam's heart cath coming up and Yes we are praying for the tumor to be gone.
I too absolutely love Mexican food and could eat it every day. Now, about ice cream I'm guilty of wanting to eat it every day !! It definitely is my downfall.
Great answers to HP. Thanks for sharing.

    1. LOL...my first time to do this hodgepodge, but it was fun... I so appreciate all the prayers...He was so very sick all night long last night....as a matter of fact, he is still in bed right now...hasn't even been up. I've checked on him several times but he just does not feel good. Mexican Food is our No. 1 go to (Not for Sam any longer) and when it comes to ice cream...so strange that it has never been anything that I've really enjoyed... lol

  10. School sure starts a whole lot earlier than when we went. The heat must be so bad there, and with no air conditioning in the schools I assume. Wow, you sure overcame your shyness. You are now a light to us all!!!!

    1. The classrooms now have air conditioning but it is still so very hot for the kids...old and young. Hard on the little ones because they have been use to staying indoors all day, and hard on the older ones because of all the extra curricular activities. I have overcome my extreme shyness and blogging has been a huge help in this.

  11. You shy? Wow! I am surprised! I bet if you ever go back to your high school reunions they don't recognize you because you have blossomed into such a wonderful, outgoing and friendly person! I know there were some from our class who really blossomed after high school, and they were just so different than how I remembered them, but it was delightful to see! Yes, the kids here go back to school NEXT week! That does seem too soon, and yes, it is too hot, especially for sports, etc., but at least they do have AC in the schools now, but they sure didn't when I was growing up.And really, after Labor Day wasn't much cooler here in Florida! Praying for your hubby and the tests he is going through now. May God surprise them all with His healing!!!

    1. LOL...would you believe that Myself and a few of my very best friends always plan our class reunions? We have one every 5 years and NO..my classmates are very surprised that I have totally come out of my shy shell. I remember those days of NO air in the classrooms...goodness, how did we survive? lol. Thank you so very much for the prayers..

  12. I, too, am so surprised (that) you were shy! Did marrying and becoming a mother play a huge role in your transformation? (For me, it was being thrust into the world of hospitality management.) Right there with you on school starting so darn early. Real (Texas) Mexican food, too.

    1. What changed me was Blogging...I was very shy until 2010 and after I began blogging, it was like a light switch turning on. I am not at all shy now. Strange!!

  13. It does sound like you had a lovely time visiting family in Colorado.
I am with you on the shyness. I was the same at school. Now I feel like I missed out on so much.
I always find it strange that kids going back to school when it's the middle of summer. I am from England though, most of the schools go back in the first week in September here.

  14. So fun to read your answers and I relate with a few - especially bits of OCD. But what I can't relate with is the ice cream. It's LIFE for me. Lol 😂

  16. I'm long past the days of keeping up with the school schedules, but there is something to be said for an earlier start. At least in my state that insures the first semester ends before the end of year break (so no getting back up to speed and cramming for finals in January) and the second semester ends before Memorial Day. Vacations can be fit in earlier, so everything is wrapped up by mid-August.

  17. I never pegged you for a shy one. Not even CLOSE! Great that you got to see your grandson and your extended family. Summer here is on the way OUT. Leaves already changing and I LOOOOOVE it. I'm not into summer. Summer can suck it. Bring me Autumn! Muwhahahaha.

  18. I agree on the start of school-and it would not hurt a dang thing for kids to go from September to end of May. I have noticed that kids are getting out earlier and earlier in May, also. I bet Colorado was fun, we are planning to stop there on our fall vacation again this year.

  19. Great answer. I know one other blogger who does the hodgepodge Wednesday too.
Shyness is something I had a problem with in high school. It gave me a reputation of being a snob because I didn't talk much

  20. My mother was always very shy and sometimes people thought her unfriendly because of that. She's not unfriendly at all, but you definitely had to be the one inviting her into the conversation. My mother-in-law is the exact opposite. She never met a stranger (nor did her son who I'm married to) and people tell them things without being prompted. There is an openness to them people find welcoming and that's a wonderful quality to have. I do hope all goes well with your hubs procedure. Sounds like a heavy season and I will put his name in my prayer journal. Thanks for joining in the HP. As far as linking up goes I'm happy to help. Next time click on the link to add and it asks for basic info-your blog post title and the link. Email is optional. You can copy the link from the bar at the top of your blog post. Have a nice week!

  21. Hi dear friend Shug, I was also very shy, even in high school! I still am to an extent although not nearly as much as back then. Great post, thank you so much for sharing.

  22. I liked you answers, Shug. I am very shy too. Whenever I see a football game, (even on TV) and the players get in a group I think they are talking about me.

Praying for you and yours. God bless.
