Weekend News

 Weekend News:

Saturday was slow and easy around here, which makes for a really good day. Eventually, we made our way over to visit Sam's dad at the memory care facility. This is always such a tender visit.  To our surprise, our grandson Carson popped in for a visit too.  Our oldest daughter Trista was with us, so naturally, the four of us decided to grab an early dinner after the visit.

We ended up at LongHorn Steakhouse where Sam, my sweetie, could only manage a small cup of chowder. The rest of us?? Well, we made up for what he didn't eat with full entrees like we were preparing to do a Summer hibernation.

Sunday morning had us rising and shining very early. We hit the road for Dallas, stopping at the mall for lunch. Sam and I split the orange chicken and rice dish at the Cheesecake Factory.....no cheesecake though. Sam can not have it, and I wasn't about to sit across from him eating a big ol' slice of heaven while he drank his tea.

Woo....that is True Love y'all....

After lunch, Sam found a cozy spot near the food court to people watch while I went off in search of a dress for our grandson's September wedding.  I found the perfect dress and would you believe it was only $49.00 dollars?  No joke!!!  It was on sale big time. The original price was $189.00...  Now that's a good bargain. After finding the dress, I met up with Sam and we watched the Carousel ride for a bit.  I enjoyed seeing all the smiling faces of the kiddos riding the horses.

Next store was Barnes and Noble…. I had planned to purchase a book to read, but when I saw the checkout line stretching halfway to Oklahoma, I decided I wan't that committed.... I was amazed at how many people were purchasing books.

After wandering through the mall, we drove over to find the medical building where Sam's early Monday morning appointment would be.  This was an easy find!  We then checked into a nearby hotel and enjoyed a quaint little dinner there at the hotel restaurant.  Nothing fancy....tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich.

Monday morning: Sam's appointment went smooth and by mid-morning, we were back on the road headed home......just had to make a pit stop at McDonald's for a hot biscuit and a much needed cup of coffee.

All in all, it was a full weekend....equal parts heartwarming, a new feeling of hope and ....(the driving in downtown Dallas)...a bit hectic. But we made it through with love and a lot of laughs...(We only got honked at a few times!)

I know...I know...it sounds like all we did was eat!!!  I may have gained a couple of pounds, but I know Sam didn't.

I have had several friends tell me they would like to keep up with Sam's health issues, so I decided to do Updates in the column on the side of my daily post... You can find the information there...

I've got a lot of catching up to do in visiting and reading each of your post....I will eventually get it done......My apologies for being behind....

Happy Tuesday...

Shug

  1. I'm so glad hubby's appointment has come & gone...and that you mixed it in with pleasure too, Shug. Eating (aka: breaking bread together) is something our culture relishes & I'm glad you got to do that. Eat hearty! I think that's a stupendous idea about putting health updates in the side column of your blog. Keep both you & your hubby in prayer, my friend. ~Andrea xoxo

  6. Oh wow, where to begin?! Most important, thank you for including us in Sam's journey. (Actually, both your journeys.) High 5 on that dress for the wedding. Deals like that don't come around so often. The last couple days I've been inexplicably fixated on food -- the kind made by someone else -- so I can appreciate your pleasure.
Bold prayers for the new biopsy!

  7. I love going to Barnes and Noble. But I think I too would hold off buying a book with a line like that. What love you showed giving up on that cheesecake! Way to go! Sounds like you had a lovely visit with your father-in-law - I am sure he was blessed by you all.

  8. So glad your Dallas adventure went well, Shug, and I do appreciate your special update section regarding Sam's cancer. It makes it that much more easy to pray for him with specificity, for sure. Hope you have a blessed and quiet week, my friend!

  13. Hi Shug! I came to your blog because Mari mentioned you and then I saw your comment at the top of one of Donna Staas's posts. I figured it was a sign! I ate at a Cheesecake Factory (Charlotte, NC) for the first time just a week ago, on my TG's and my 46th wedding anniversary! We had just visited the Billy Graham Library and we were so hungry. I always enjoy reading about meals and restaurants and now I have to go back to the Cheesecake Factory and try that orange chicken! I saw it on the menu! But I had a cheeseburger and it was fabulous! TG had the meatloaf and he said it was excellent. NO room for cheesecake, ugh! But it was a great day. God bless! xoxo

  14. It sounds like the trip was filled with hope for you and Sam. The orange chicken and rice sounds delicious, and there's nothing like a quick stop at McDonald's for breakfast. Ours closed up here, and I really miss it. Oh, I LOVE Carousels. So glad you stopped for a moment and enjoyed it. Can't wait to see the dress that you found. That's always a hard thing to do, finding the perfect dress for a wedding. Barnes and Noble is such a charming bookstore, and I chuckled when you said, "I saw the checkout line stretching halfway to Oklahoma." We always have to go inside Barnes and Noble when we go into the city. I will read Sam's update on your side bar right now. You are such a good person, my dear.

Have a good summer week, Shug.

  16. Shug, continued prayers for Sam and of course for you too, on your health journey.
Wow on that dress bargain... I love when I find a great deal too.
Gosh, I haven't been inside a Barnes and Noble , or the Mall, for that matter in years. The malls around here are all closing or turning into other kinds of complexes like movie theaters.
From reading Mari's post about decorating for the 4th.. I think I may have to make a trip to Dollar Tree for some "patriotic stuff" too.
    Love all the flags.
    (((hugs))) to you my Friend

  17. Oh my goodness, what a shock this doctor visit must have been. And now the waiting for results! I love that you will be giving updates on your sidebar! Because I am always wanting to know and having questions. WHAT, we don't get to see the dress? What a deal! I know you will show us when the right time comes. Book stores seem to be closing everywhere! I'm glad to know that Barnes & Noble is still doing well. Our Books-A-Million closed and was replaced with a Boot Barn. go figure.

  18. It sounds like God was looking out for both of you this weekend-family meals, easy traveling, a successful doctor's visit, and a great deal on a dress!

  19. Hope this new Doctor has some answers for you and more important has a plan! Prayers for you both. I don’t like traffic either. But it sounds like a good trip!

  20. So happy to hear it was a smooth visit. And bonus you found a dress!! That is definitely true love to pass up cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory. Lol I sure wish we had one around here (or maybe I don't 🙈).
Continue prayers for Sam and blessings to you for the rest of the week ahead. xo
