Memorial Day weekend..... and here we are at the unofficial start to Summer.
I'm sure many people are heading out to the lake or will just be hanging out around the pool. It's possible that the smell of burgers being grilled in backyards, will linger in the air ALL weekend. Flags are waving, and porches are decorated up with the colors of red, white and blue.
But....as we enjoy the fun and the food, let's also take time to remember the meaning behind this weekend. Memorial Day is about honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives for our freedom. Because of them, we get to live these beautiful, ordinary moments.
As for Sam and I, it will be a quiet weekend around here. There may be a dip in the pool if the water is warm enough. Since Sam is unable to eat meat due to his liver not functioning well, it will most likely be some fruit and a few bowls of soup on the menu.
Our family is kinda scattered this weekend and I pray safety for each of them. Prayers for my blogging friends and their families as well, that a hedge of protection will surround each of you.
As you gather with your families, may joy fill your hearts and remembrance guide your thoughts this weekend.
Shug....
Yes, may we all remember and give thanks for those who bravely laid down their lives for our freedoms. Blessings, Shug!
ReplyDeleteAmen! There would be no holiday without their sacrifice.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your special weekend. It's a Bank holiday weekend here, too, the last until Christmas.
ReplyDeleteYears ago (living in Abilene), Memorial Day weekend was just an excuse to jump in the car and see how far we could drive before having to rewind. While I'm grateful for those crazy days, I much prefer today's slower ... more meaningful times, reflecting on what it means.
ReplyDeletePS - As I'm sure you know, it's not what's on your table, but who's sitting around it.
We are having a quiet weekend too, and that's ok. Quiet is nice sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHope you and Sam enjoy the weekend and we'll all say thanks to our military!
It's a quiet weekend in our neck of the woods, too. We kicked it off watching a few old war movies on TCM and it got me thinking about my dad and his service in WWII. So many sacrificed so much. I hope you and Sam are able to enjoy the weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe owe so much of our life to those who gave theirs and for the ones who didn't die. Where would we be. So, no meat with liver issues? I did not know that. Hope Sam can relax and get his energy going.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I hope Sam is not a big meat lover. I love your header with your blog explanation and little computer! We are staying home till Monday, then going to a Christian Memorial Day celebration including a car show, music and food.
ReplyDeleteIt will be quiet and peaceful here too. if you don't mind, could you tell us more about Sam's diagnosis and treatment?
ReplyDeleteLove and prayers. ❤️
It's a quiet weekend here too. Sometimes quiet days are the best.
ReplyDeleteIt's quiet here today, and tomorrow I think our "kids" are coming over for lunch. It will be hamburgers on the grill and watermelon and whatever else we put together. Nothing fancy planned. We took a ride today, but the roads are busy and the lakes are full of boaters, and it's just better to stay closer to home and out of harms' way.
ReplyDeleteIt is so good to see the flag!
ReplyDeleteQuiet here too today. We usually don’t go away on any 3 day weekends. Too crowded. Just a truly lovely day. 🇺🇸
ReplyDeleteI doubt there will be many picnics around here this weekend. It's been cold. This morning it's only 37. No plans for the weekend for me either. Just hanging out at home probably under a blanket.
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear one, for your prayer for me and my family that a hedge of protection will surround each of us. I appreciate that very much. It was a quiet weekend here too with barbecue hot dogs and barbecue chips, and gingerbread cookies for dessert, Yummy. I have to tell you that your Header with your sweet words is very special. It's wonderful that your blog is a small legacy for you. And you inspire all of us with your creativity and beautiful spirit, Shug.

Nothing beats a nice quiet weekend though. I love those. And if it rains on a quiet weekend or snows. Oh boy. I just love that. Wishing you and Sam a wonderful June ahead.
ReplyDeleteA lovely post for Memorial Day weekend, my friend.
