I know that I posted yesterday about the treasures that the four granddaughters chose at my in-laws home. Today, I wanted to show you a few of the things that I selected.
I am so thankful for the tender opportunity of preserving some of the pieces that I know were very dear to my mother-in-law.
This sweet lady had a love for art that ran deep in her veins. Her creativity flowed onto canvas, and she filled her home with her own beautiful paintings. Each one carries her quiet spirit, as they are so detailed and I can feel the love she held in each stroke of her brush.
There was one piece that I've loved for as long as I can remember. It wasn't one that she painted.....it was one that she purchased, called "Berry Pickers." For years, I admired it every time we were at their home. Something about it speaks of the simple joys of life. Imagine the summers, and how people enjoyed harvesting the fruit with intentions of making a delicious berry pie.
My apologies for the light reflections that are showing on the picture.
I'm so grateful for the chance to hold these treasures. Not because they are valuable in the world's eyes, but because they're rich with meaning. These painting won't match every couch or color scheme, but they will match my soul. They carry the fingerprints of a woman who loved deeply and created so much beauty herself.
As I walked through each room, I didn't just see "things," I saw warm embraces, a life painted in love, and NOW.....I get to carry a few brushstrokes of that into my own home.
Art speaks where words are unable to explain.
Shug......
I love the sweet treasures.

Oh my! I'm sitting here in tears. I've quit being amazed at how similar you and I are when it comes to things of the heart and soul. When we went through my in-law's things with the family, I was amazed at the things the daughters didn't want to take with them. They surely found a place in our home as treasures...just as you said...not because they were valuable in the world's eyes, but because of how they touch our lives. The paintings are gorgeous, and I especially loved these words of yours, "they carry the fingerprints of a woman who loved deeply and created so much beauty herself. " xx
ReplyDeleteYes! I totally understand your thinking. These pieces are beautiful to anyone, but to you, they are so much more because of the person who painted and chose them.
ReplyDeleteHow I'd love to walk up those wooden steps and into your MIL's general store! What a handsome piece, the Berry Pickers ... such a sweet nod to yesteryear with tin pails and pinafores.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you express yourself, especially, "they carry the fingerprints of a woman who loved deeply ....". ❤️ How can I help but remember that whenever I gaze at something my own mother created.
Oh Shug, the items that you came home with that belonged to your mother-in-law are wonderful. I was especially drawn to the "country store" painting. I always think what it would be like to live back then, and only have one country store in town. I love this painting, what a treasure. The painting with the white picket fence and the archway with flowers draping over it is so pretty. The "berry pickers" looks very nice above your cabinet. It's nice that you were able to get some pieces that you've loved for a very long time in your mother-in-law's home. Thanks for sharing your treasures with us, Shug. They are so special with meaning behind every one.

Oh, I love all of those beautiful paintings. The general store looks like a place I'd love to explore inside, and that garden gate/trellis is so lovely. But the Berry Pickers painting is amazing! So many details in the faces and people, their dresses, hats, the little girls smelling the flowers...OH< I LOVE this painting! I've never seen one like it before and it is just amazing. I'm so glad you kept these beautiful pictures. I can tell a lot about about your MIL from these...she would be a woman I'd love to have known because I can just feel the depth of her heart in these...Thank you for sharing them with us. I'm so glad you saved them!!!
ReplyDeleteYour MIL’s art lives on and that is what I love about paintings or any art form. From pottery where their hands molded the clay, to the brush strokes on a canvas, truly special keepsakes that transcends generations. My favorite is the general store and the picket fence archway with the colorful vines. I can see how you were drawn to the other one with almost historical details of the way people were. Love it.
ReplyDeleteYES !!! My heart says a hearty Yes to Art speaking where words are unable to explain. Those are my feelings exactly.
ReplyDeleteThe pieces you choose are so lovely and are true treasures for your very being. Your MIL was so talented.
I love the placement of all of the pieces on your credenza. Beautiful..

She was a wonderful artist! I actually like her paintings more than the Berry Pickers that she bought!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, she was an excellent artist. Her works she purchased were fabulous. I loved them all and it goes with my color scheme here. Love the quote: Art speaks where words are unable to explain.
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful keepsakes:)
ReplyDeleteWhat great remembrances. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThose are nice pieces, and if finances get tight you could probably sell them on the History Channel's "Pawn Stars" people get good prices for art on there all the time.
ReplyDeleteThis touched me deeply. There’s such beauty in the way you honor her memory—not just through the treasures themselves, but through the stories and love they carry. What a graceful way to preserve her spirit.
ReplyDeleteThese treasures will be appreciated by your grandchildren and their children. Such lovely connections to the past.
ReplyDeleteWonderful treasures. Not only are they beautiful to look at but every time you see them they will fill your heart with wonderful memories. Your mother in law was very talented.
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful treasures my friend. Wishing you a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteboth are beautiful, both painted and purchased. I am happy for you that you could gather these memories to place where you can enjoy them daily.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love them both!!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
