A Planner and A Cup of Coffee

This morning I sat down with my planner in one hand and a hot cup of coffee in the other. One without the other just doesn't make sense at my age. The house is quiet, the coffee is a bit strong, and my to do list??? Well, lets just say it is long. Will it get done...Yes, but not  today!!

This weekend, we are resting. Sam needs the extra rest and truth be told, I think I do too. He doesn't need to be around a crowd right now and honestly, neither does this tired body of mine... We are giving our bodies a little grace because, I think the world can spin without us this weekend.

Next week....Oh friends....will be busy for me!

Sam has doctor appointments, and then our calendar rolls into celebration mode. Friday is the rehearsal dinner for our third grandson and his beautiful fiancee and next Saturday is the big wedding. Just typing this puts a lump in my throat. How in the world did we get here so fast? One minute he's playing ball in the backyard, and the next he's standing at the altar with the woman God picked just for him.

Trista and I are doing the flowers for the rehearsal dinner, which means there will be blooms, buckets, and perhaps a few glue guns. Between the two of us, we've got enough creative energy (I think) to turn the buckets of blooms into a Southern magazine cover. (I hope)

Mother's Day weekend is a busy time for flowers....The flowers we have ordered are Pink Peonies, hydrangeas (white and green) pink & white roses and greenery....Keeping my fingers crossed that they are all available...

Weddings have a way of reminding us what really matters.....Love, commitment, family and showing up for each other. This weekend though, I'm not any checking boxes on my list.......I'm refilling my cup, both literally and SPIRITUALLY.

"Behind every well-decorated wedding is someone with floral tape stuck to their elbow and a glue gun burn on their finger."      Shug...

As for this weekend.....We are taking the weekend slow and sweet, kinda like molasses on a warm biscuit.

Hugs to all...

  9. I'm glad you are resting up this weekend after that difficult day yesterday. I love your journal, Shug, it's so dear. It's wonderful that you will be doing the flowers for the rehearsal dinner. Your Pink quote is delightful. There is so much involved with weddings these days. It blew my mind when my daughters got married. That's a lovely picture of your grandson and fiancee. Have a lovely restful weekend, Shug. My coffee is a bit strong this morning too. I"m having Starbuck's French Roast. ; )

  17. Oh Shug, I hope you both have rested well this weekend. A restful weekend at home can surely refill your cup, both physically and spiritually. You both need to take care of yourselves because you have some exciting things happening! I have my oldest granddaughter spending the night this weekend and I know I'm going to blink and she will be driving and dating and I'll be a mess :) But what a sweet blessing it's been. Have a wonderful weekend my friend! Blessings to you and Sam.

  19. Reading about your upcoming wedding, I couldn't help singing "Sunrise, Sunset" Where is this the little girl I carried? Is this the little boy at play? I don't remember growing older, when did they? When did she get to be a beauty? When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesday that they were small....Sunrise, Sunset!! OK, I'm staring to tear up!! We have a new great grandbaby coming in a few weeks, and I remember reading Bible stories to the Dad.
Can't wait to see all the lovey things you will create. In the meantime will keep you and Sam in our prayers while you try to rest up. Loving you big time!

  22. Your words perfectly capture the beauty and chaos of life! I can completely relate to the need for a quiet moment with a cup of coffee and a planner in hand—those moments are so grounding. I love the excitement and love that a wedding brings, and your reflections on it are so heartfelt. I just posted a new blog post about Body Confident You: Body Confident Kid, and I would love for you to take a look and let me know your thoughts: https://www.melodyjacob.com/2025/05/body-confident-you-body-confident-kid-book-review.html.
