The Life We know little About

A Life that we Know Little about!

What is this life?  It is being a mild to moderate disabled person......

I have a niece with such challenges......She was in a Car Wreck with her family when she was only 3 years old.  She was a healthy young child up to that point.  ............she is now 47.

The wreck claimed the lives of her parents, and it badly injured her brother and sister.  "Our Princess"....being the baby of the family, suffered severe brain injuries.

She had to learn to walk and talk all over again, however, it left her with permanent learning abilities.

I wanted to write this post to talk about the life that we know little about.  It is true.....that even though I have helped take care of her (especially since my mom and dad passed) I still do not know all about the struggles she has.  Only she, herself knows the emotional roller coaster that she experiences in her life each day.

Most of us have no idea what it feels like to want to be like everyone else, but yet, you know you are different.

Young adults with disabilities need to fit in!! They have needs and desires to be involved.  People with intellectual disabilities, know they are physically able to do things, but they are not able to make significant decisions for themselves.

Adapting to a life with a disability brings many challenges.....not necessarily physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

Our Princess, lives in a home for mild to moderate disabled adults.  This home has been a huge Blessing for her.  Her home is so nice and she has the Best house mom, who cares deeply for the residents living there.  There are kinds of planned activities, and the staff even holds classes for the residents to choose what interest them.  Arts, crafts, cooking, Bible Study, painting, and music are just a few of the classes offered.

I don't know how many of you have ever heard of "NIGHT TO SHINE?"  This is an event that is put on by the Tim Tebow foundation each year in February.

Several different cities across the United States will host the event, and we are fortunate enough to live in an area where it is close enough for the residents of Our Princess's home, to be able to attend.

This event was started 6 years ago by the Tim Tebow Foundation.  He started this because he wanted to love and celebrate the lives of people with special needs.

I am so excited about this event.  We have already shopped for Our Princess's dress and I know she is going to be absolutely gorgeous in the Gold sequin dress that we found.

We are shopping for the perfect shoes for her to wear, plus the jewelry!

After all......A prom Queen will need to fitted properly!!!! πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›πŸ’›

This event is a night that allows these adults to feel very Special and important.

They dress up πŸ‘ πŸ›, DANCE πŸŽΈπŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒ, eat and enjoy celebrating with friends.  They also love to be recognized!!! 🎀

They all feel acceptance in a world where they often feel neglected.  This prom is a beacon of light for the attendees. There are magical memories that are being made, especially as the room is illuminated with lights and decorations.

It doesn't require having all the perfect dance moves that might be popular.....it doesn't require being able to synchronize with the beats of the music.  These adults are just so excited to be in a joyful environment, where they can be themselves as they are simply living in the moment with such freedom.

Our local event is scheduled for February 9th and I definitely plan on grabbing a lot of photos from this wonderful evening.

May each of them be Blessed beyond what any of us can imagine.

Wait for my photos in a few weeks.....I know you will be Blessed as well, when you see the love and the happy expressions on these beautiful faces.

  4. What a special and wonderful event this is. The sparkly dress you bought for her is so pretty. I am so sorry to hear that your niece was in a car accident, along with her parents and siblings. You wrote special words about your niece and her struggles, and it hit home for me, as my nephew has autistic characteristics, and it has been a hard road as well. I can't wait to see the shoes and jewelry you buy. Please be sure to show us. : )
