60th Birthday Party

I am so Blessed to have such wonderful friends in my life.
The above picture was taken this past Saturday evening as the class of 1971 (Brownsboro High School) gathered to celebrate their 60th Birthday Party.

Some of them have been 60 since the end of last year (my Sam is one of them)......some have recently celebrated their 60th, and then some of Us will not turn 60 until later in the summer.
(Oh yes.....I would be one of them)

Twenty-two of our classmates were able to attend the celebration and can I tell you.....we had a wonderful time.

The gifts were......well, lets just say they were needed!
Lots of aches and pains stuff....

Carol was thrilled.....she got her very own LARGE remote control.

The Best Classmates ... and  the Best Friends!!

Love em'

The cure

Oh dear me.........

I desperately need a cup of hot tea......

With Lemons..........And some....

HONEY.....

My husband most definitely believes in the mixture of honey, lemon, hot tea.......and, ALUM.  This is his number one remedy for those suffering with allergies.

I can handle the hot tea, the lemon and the honey, but I have to stop when it comes to adding the alum.

True.....oh so true.

My head hurts, throat hurts, eyes hurt, body aches, have sinus drainage and FEVER!!

Needless to say.....I have been on the sofa most of the day...I did try the Nettie pot and to my amazement, it did help....JUST NOT ENOUGH......

I sure hope I feel better tomorrow....

A Moment....A Lifetime....

Counting Calories........this is my topic today....

Why has it taken me so long to realize what calories can do to your body?  Do you count your calories?

In the past, I have never even bothered (didn't care I suppose) to investigate the number of calories in foods.  If it looked good....I ate it!  If it tasted good...I usually ate more than I needed to have eaten.

Now.....that I am counting calories....
My eyes have been opened wide, to the number of calories that can easily be consumed in a days time.

Did you know that one cake donut (no sugar) has approximately 225 calories EACH.   If a person eats two, this means your calorie intake is 450.

In order to walk off 225 calories, one would have to walk a solid hour and even at that you still would be hanging on to 2 extra calories.  This means, for two donuts, you would need to walk a little over two hours.

How can it take only minutes (seconds) to cram 2 donuts in your mouth and then take 2 hours or so to burn up those calories?   Not fair is it?
As they say....a moment on the lips....A LIFETIME ON THE HIPS!!

Wow....this is all I have to say about that!!

I'm so glad that I have finally figured this out!!!!!!

Have a good day y'all.....

Compassion and a little bit of Worry.

Thank you sweet Jesus.......

I just love how God is sensitive to every beat of our heart.
This means that HE is on top of every care and concern that we have......

This past Monday, I was reading the bible and was looking for scriptures concerning compassion.  I have a sweet friend that I wanted to share these scriptures with.

1 John 3:17
But whoever has the world's goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

(Gorgeous Roses that Ty sent to Trista and Tori.....yesterday) :)
I found myself becoming a bit frustrated because I couldn't
find the scriptures that I was looking for.  Instead, I kept
coming across scripture dealing with WORRY.  I was so
desperate in my search, that I never connected with the
possibility that God was perhaps giving me these words for

particular reason.....HE had a purpose for my reading.

Little did I know that in the midst of my day.....while I was
sitting there reading God's word....HE was actually working
on me.

I woke up around 2:30 Monday night and I suddenly found
myself being bombarded with all these thoughts about some
things that I didn't even realize that I was worrying about.
Negative  worry was taking over and ruining my sleep time.

Wouldn't you know it.....Scripture after scripture, dealing
with worry......started flooding my mind.  I felt a sense of
peace and before I knew it.....the alarm on my phone was
sounding.   I was resting so well and it was so hard for me
to even think of crawling out of bed.

The Lord is gracious and compassionate!!!!!!

Matthew 6:34

“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Fragrance of Blue

It's a double Yum kind of morning here at Shug's kitchen.

The aroma of Fresh Blueberry Muffins.....
is somewhat heavenly.

Chocolate Chip muffins are the most requested around here, however.....I do have a few that Love the highly pleasing taste of Blueberries.

Thanks to a good friend (who grows blueberries) I have several bags of blueberries in my freezer.

Today is another big day for kids taking the
 "Texas Star Test."

All five of the grans are taking the Science test today!

Don't lose a minute in building on what you've been given, complementing your basic faith with good character, spiritual understanding, alert discipline, passionate patience, reverent wonder, warm friendliness, and generous love, each dimension fitting into and developing the others.

The Texas Star.....

There will be .....NO....... Ferris Wheel  rides for the school students in TEXAS today!

Students will spend hours  in classroom today......TAKING THE TEXAS STAR TEST!

This is the academic test that kids must pass in order to move to the next grade in school.

I.......most definitely have some thoughts about this test, but I won't go there today.

Today I am focusing on Prayer time spent for these kids.   This test is extremely stressful and can sometimes be overwhelming for a good many of the students.

Not only is this test stressful for the students, but the teachers are feeling the punch that anxiety is delivering to them today, as well.

If you have some spare time today......please.... just lift these kids up in prayer!

Three of our grandchildren are testing today and five of them will be testing tomorrow..

As you already know, both of our daughters are teachers and they too are in need of prayer.

In advance.....I say thank you to all my "Prayer Warrior" blogging friends and friends in general......for your much needed prayers.

God is so Good!

Sidewalk Chalk and a Little Love

Will You?  When you stop to think about it, these are some mighty big words..    The reason why, is because we KNOW that when someone is asking "Will You"......it means that they want us to do something.  For me, the moment I hear these words, I am already thinking in the back of my mind....Do I Want To Do whatever it is that you want me to do.  I'm thinking ahead!!!

These two words, when added to "Will You".....usually ends with......FAVOR......as in, Will you do me a favor!

Oh wow....this word is used VERY often!   (the....one of the first words that is learned in kindergarten)

Will you do me the HONOR......   Will you favor me!

By being............ "My Date to The Prom"

Isn't it sweet?   This was Tyler's message to Kelsey, when asking her to do him the favor of being his date to the Prom.

At the top of the word "Prom" was Tyler.....standing there with a red rose.  I think his words were:  "Kelsey, you are the only girl that I want to be by my side at the Prom.  Will you do me the Honor of being my date to our Prom?"

I  was honored to be the one he ask to film all of this.  Yep...he made this special video and sent it to Kelsey.  And, to make it more special.....Pops was in the background, softly singing a very special love song.

The Best Thing Is ......She said YES!!

I absolutely love things like this.....

Just had to share and say how proud I am of my precious grandson....Ooops, I forgot that I have already mentioned this Many, Many times in the past!!

Enjoy the blessings of today...

"Dinner On The Ground"

When I was growing up....our church would often have "Dinner on the ground."  I loved it!!  I can still see those big tall tables, that were then... just a part of the landscape on the church grounds.

Do any of you remember those good ol' days?

Talking about some GOOD food....the ladies in our church really knew how to cook!!    Homemade food at it's BEST!

                                                  ********

Tomorrow is "Homecoming" at our church.....    Do you know what this means?    It means seeing a lot of faces from  the past that you haven't seen in a while....BUT, it also means we are going to be EATING after the service.

Here is a picture of one of the cakes I am taking tomorrow.

"Chocolate cake with Oreo cream filling"  Ummmm!

To make it double yummy.....this cake is covered with a milk chocolate icing.      Email me if you are interested in the recipe...

I am also taking a Coconut dessert, along with two delicious salads and a dish of candied yams.    (Sounds good to me)

The church furnishes all the meat  (Grilled Chicken, Grilled Beef and Grilled sausage)....isn't that wonderful?

It is going to be a fantastic day!

HUGS Y'ALL...

Spoon a Little More.......

I sure had myself a Good helper in the kitchen yesterday.

It was none other than Miss Mylee Jo herself...

Cupcakes is what she wanted to make......so, (SHE) made cupcakes.

For those of you who do not follow me on FB......check out Mylee's cooking video!  Click on the above link.

I was beginning to think that she would never get them in the oven! It took a Loooooooooong  time to get the batter spooned into the cups.
As you can see below, the cupcakes are all different sizes!!  No measuring for her....   Just spoon a little, take a bite or two out of some of the spoonfuls, and spoon a little more...

And hey......what's a little batter on the pan going to hurt??

Mylee loves to bake....and she wants to do everything herself.  When she cracks the eggs, it cracks me up.  No kidding, this girl grabs the egg and gives it a BIG whack....then, with one hand, the egg is emptied into the batter.  This is talent!  I'm not saying that I don't have to dig out a few egg shells ever now and then, but most of the time....she nails it!

Of course......we all know that when we bake, we have to do the dishes.    No problem at all for Mylee.  As a matter of fact, my floor was clean, the counter tops were clean, and I can promise you that she was CLEAN.......   Water Was Everywhere!!!!!!

The way I see it is........School will be out for the summer in just about 6 weeks, and since her mom is a teacher, this means I only have a short period of time left in keeping her each day.  In August, Mylee will be going to  kindergarten.

I'm gonna try to enjoy every minute of these next 6 weeks with her.

She did a great job in here baking and the best part is.....

Her bubba's loved having cupcakes as their after school snack...

I can see it now.....Mylee will most likely be posting on
"Sam's Recipe City"  facebook page real soon.....

Hugs to all...

Yummy Dessert.....

This recipe is Better than BETTER....

"Princess Pie"

I found it on Facebook, however....I (think) I have seen it on Pinterest as well.

I only had a small teaspoon taste, but I can guarentee you that this is a super yummy tasting dessert.

Our menu for Church Home Groups last evening was.....Mexican food.
Everyone knows that you can't have food without a DESSERT!!

I took fajitas and this fabulous princess pie!  A nice cinnamon dessert would have been nice, but I was very anxious to try out this particular recipe....

It was a hit....and it was delicious!!

Recipe:

Princess Pie (Coconut Cream Pie)
crust:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 Tbs sugar
1/2 cup chopped pecans - optional

Mix and pat in an 8 x 8 inch pan, bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes, until just beginning to turn golden. Do not over bake.

Layer two:
8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup whipped topping

Beat together sugar and cream cheese. Fold in whipped topping. Spread on cooled  crust.

Layer three:
1 small package coconut cream instant pudding  (I added extra coconut)
1 1/2 cups whole milk (any milk will do, but whole milk makes pudding so much tastier)
Mix until thickened. Spread over cream cheese mixture.

Top with remaining tub of whipped topping.
Toast 1 cup coconut. Sprinkle evenly on dessert. Refrigerate

A must try recipe....

Recipe Crazy

    Creamy New Orleans Pralines

3 cups sugar

1 cup buttermilk

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1 pinch salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 quart pecans

Combine sugar, buttermilk, corn syrup and salt in a very large pan (it will foam considerably when soda is added) and bring to a nice rolling boil. Add soda, stir and cook until soft ball is formed when dropped in cold water. Then remove from heat and add vanilla. Beat until color changes and candy thickens. Stir in pecans. Drop by teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. (DO IT FAST before the candy hardens)

I am so Blessed....I have a husband that makes my life overflowing with goodness...He makes me laugh and I absolutely love all of the funny little things that he does.

So many of his 2000 Facebook friends have been posting these fabulous recipes and so Sam shares them in order to keep them on his timeline.

Problem is......about a 1900 of those FB friends are not interested in (RECIPES) and they make remarks in regards to FB turning into a cookbook!

Sam decided last night that he would create a new FB page for posting recipes......HE DID....and it is called

"RECIPE CITY"

All you Great cooks out there......go check it out!

Let me tell you......Sam rarely cooks, he usually spends approximately 20 minutes a day in the kitchen.
This is time spent fixing his morning cereal (all doctored up with honey, and all kinds of spices.)  It also includes the time that he stops at the refrigerator to fix himself a glass of tea, before walking out the back door.

So.....my question is:  What is he planning on doing with all these recipes??

*****

Gonna be a nice day around here.....Hope the weather is sweet where you are...

Vacation Plans......

Breakfast Bread......It's what's for Breakfast this morning.

I let the bread rise yesterday....cooked the sausage last night......and added the cheese....rolled it up and placed it back in the refrigerator.   These few steps made it so simple this morning......uncovered the bread and placed it in the oven.....      A great meal to send kids off to school.

Mylee was so cute last evening.  She spent the night with us and before bed, I asked her if she wanted to sleep late this morning.....she said:  "Yes, but don't let them eat all the breakfast bread fore I get up."   Hey, This girl knows what's GOOD!

                                                                      **********

Are any of you making "Vacation Plans" for the summer?   We have been kicking around the idea of going to the beach.  We have always gone to Florida and we love the place where we usually stay.   This year, we are thinking about cutting out some of the driving time, and maybe vacationing on the coast of Alabama or Mississippi.   Orange Beach, Fort Morgan, or Gulf Shores to be exact.   Are any of you familiar with any of these areas.

After staying at such a NICE place in Florida, it's so hard to consider staying somewhere else.  We would love to find a house right on the beach, that has a private pool.   I'm not much of a beach person, so the pool is  absolutely  necessary.   There are several nice condos, but they are SO BIG and this means a whole lot of people are crammed into the pool and beach area.

Going to the beach is so easy when you are vacationing with kids.....however, I would be open to going somewhere else if it's a place that is fun for the kiddos.    Any great ideas out there??

What do you have planned as a get-away this summer?

It's Friday.....so make it a GREAT day!!
