I vote NO!

Happy Sunday Everyone!!

Do you remember the days, when at night, the family could go to bed with the doors open, and only the screen doors shut? Sometimes they were no even latched!

Yes...we had screen doors and we even had screens on the windows.  NO AIR CONDITIONING though!  We would sometimes, stick our pillows up on the window ledge and lay there and gaze at the stars for hours....Oh, how I loved this!

We could hear the crickets singing and occasionally, we would hear a noise that would scare us half to death. We would pull the sheets up over our heads...in fear that it was a boogie man...

Living in a small town was awesome!!  Everyone knew EVERYONE.
There seemed to be NO worries at all and neighbors were good neighbors.  Heck...you could borrow eggs, flour, or milk and no one expected you to pull out dollars to pay for it....

               ***

We still live in a small town...the same town where my husband grew up.  Chandler, Texas to be exact!!  "The City With A Heart."

I love this little town, and I honestly wouldn't want to live anywhere else....BUT...my how things have changed!!  Don't get me wrong...I'm all for change and we all know that change is just a way of life..Change is good, SOMETIMES.

And now...it seems that some  folks are ready for another change in our small, sweet town!  There is a petition going around, asking people to vote yes for the sale of  alcohol. If enough votes are yes, then it will be added to the ballot at election time....My vote is No!

I know that this particular subject can be argued in many ways.  Some would love to see it passed because of the tax revenues. I have heard it discussed, that if enough money is brought in, then perhaps property taxes would be dropped.

Some say it doesn't matter.... if people want to buy alcohol, they are going to get it wherever and it might as well be convenient for them...

For me...it's a simple NO...

I'm thinking....WOW...how I miss those 60's and 70's years!!

 Oh MY....this is life.

  3. Hi Shug!

I still live in a very small town - in fact, just this morning in church, as the closing prayer was being said, I could hear the birds chirping, a horse whinnying, and a rooster crowing . . . all at the same time! We are very rural!

I would love it if our little town was alcohol free, what a blessing that would be. Please vote "NO", and keep encouraging others to do so - you will be blessed for it!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  5. I think where I'm living now, in Baton Rouge, is the smallest town I've ever lived in. The town my grandparents grew up in and raised their children in sounds like Chandler, and easy access to alcohol would not have been a good thing. :/ Hope things work out for y'all!

  6. A decision to sell alcohol in your town will cost yall more than it will ever pay. I believe alcohol can be blamed on a number of problems and suffering for many. Alcohol takes more lives each year than guns, but you won't hear that on the news! Our town has more bars than churches and all the problems that go with it. And we have river boat gambling. That will follow the alcohol. Stand firm! Keep you nice town nice!

  8. This is news to me, Shug. I thought you could buy alcohol in every state. So how many can you not buy it? Here in Virginia, our state sells alcohol, but only in a state run store called an ABC store (alcohol board control, I think)I hope they vote against it in your town!!!
