Continue Growing In Your Faith....

So ...........  This past weekend, Sam wanted to drive out to the farm to shoot his gun and check to make sure that everything was running smooth with all the farming operations.

I decided to ride with him.  It was a cold Sunday afternoon and I had on my PJ's, but they were so comfy and warm, so I decided not to change out of them....After all,  I was only going to be riding and taking pictures.  {BTW...my pj's have nothing to do with my story...just thought I'd throw this little tad bit of info in for free}

These are some Old Pecan Trees....Like, I'm talking about 40 or 50 years old.  I know that they're not very big, and the reason is because they are cut back every year for graft wood.

Check out the twisting of the limbs and all of the little knots.  These are caused from all the years of pruning them back.  They do this, in order to collect different varieties of graft wood, to be used in the next growing season.

The growing of Pecan Trees, really is a very interesting process....You plant the seedlings, later graft them to be the kind of pecan tree that you need to grow, and then grow the actual tree for 3 years.....

When I was looking at these old trees this past weekend, I was thinking about their growth  and instead of them growing into a majestic pecan tree, these trees were each chosen to produce the graft wood that brings about the new life and production of many trees and thousands of edible pecans.....This means that they will never reach the height nor the circumference that they could grow.

As a Christian, I know that the process is much the same for me....{Life is not all about me} NO, it is about me using the gifts that God has given me.....using the fruits of the spirit, to reach out to others, in love, and invite them to know our Heavenly Father....

We are never too old to serve God and to reach out and help others.   I see all those knots on the old pecan trees as something beautiful...I just pray that as I continue to age, I will be able to attain the signs of growing in my Faith and allowing God to use me to win souls for the kingdom of God...

We can easily find God in nature....we just need to open our eyes and identify with the simple things that He has placed before us...

Later this week:  I'll be talking about "Bullies" and how this is really a BIG PROBLEM in our schools!

  1. Oh I envy all your open wide spaces. You trees are strong and beautiful and I love your post today. Always uplifting and a good reminder for all of us. Interested in your Bullies post. It is a real problem. As society declines, kids have no one they have to answer to. Parents are weak, schools are weak and the bullies run a muck.

  5. If I am just going out riding in the car and taking pictures, I leave my slippers on. These trees are beautiful with their curly limbs, and I didn't know anything about the grafting, so I learned something today!

  8. Great analogy, Shug - We've got pecans all around us, too, and they cut them back last year - part of them, and this year they cut the rest. I think some were used for smoking meat (we bought some for our briskets...) They sure look funny til they fill back in!
