The Difference In Change........

Shhhh....I have a secret!   It's Friday!
Oh yes it is, and I think I love it.

I worked on Taxes all day yesterday....UGH!  This is certainly not my favorite thing to do...Now, if I were getting money back, I would have already had the little booger in the mail.

My topic today is:   Well, I don't really know what to call it.  Let's just say, I don't understand how someone can love change as much as I do, but yet NOT LIKE CHANGE.  I know that doesn't make sense to you, but it will when I get through....

Boy, do I ever like to change things around my house.  I have stated many times how I love to move my furniture around...It makes me Happy!
I love to change colors throughout the house...comforters, pillows, curtains, wall hangings, what ever will move, I will change!   (Not my husband though)

On the other hand....there are a few things I don't like changed.  I know that I'm going to have some differences of opinion here, but that is OK with me...
The fact that we are all different is what makes life INTERESTING!

I was reading a book the other day, and it listed the top "MOST LOVED HYMNS"

1.   "How Great Thou Art"
2.   "The Old Rugged Cross"
3.   "What A Friend We Have In Jesus"
4.   "Be Thou My Vision"
5.   "Amazing Grace"
6.   "Great Is Thy Faithfulness"
7.   "To God Be The Glory"
8.   "Just As I Am"
9.   "Blessed Assurance"
10.  "Rock Of Ages"
11.  "Holy, Holy, Holy"
12.  "I Come To The Garden Alone"

We all know that these are beautiful Hymns ~    .....What I'm getting at here, is the fact that these Hymns are never sung anymore!  Everything has CHANGED to the CONTEMPORARY  style of music...(I'm not even sure I like that word!)

I do understand that change is necessary at times, and I am willing to sing a few of the Contemporary  Songs on Sunday  , but what has happened to singing the Old Hymns!  Hymns that my grandchildren do not even know!  This is SAD!  Way too Sad for me....

This is just one of the Changes that doesn't connect with me.....So, I have to ask myself..."Am I a Person of Change.....Or am I Not?"

I know it's different strokes for different folks, but PLEASE.... The old Hymns are just like Antiques...

Antiques have a way of enriching our lives and we search for them because the items once were appreciated and had meaning...
This is true with the old hymns.....Every word has depth in it's meaning and they truly Honor God!

Ok...There, I have let my heart be free on this one....
By the way.... Go to You Tube...Phillips, Craig and Dean - Revelation Song Lyrics.   This is a great pick me upper and I hope you enjoy it!  www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsiDukXIeVY    (A good Friend sent this to me.  Thanks Linda)

Shug Sez.........

If I feel this way, I can only imagine the hearts of the elderly folks who stood upon the foundation of these old hymns to survive the hard times in their lives!!

  1. I know lots of folks who feel like you do! I know all the old hymns, my mom taught them to us. They are starting to combine hymns and contemporary songs, which I am glad as my children still learn the wonderful words to some hymns.
    Blessings!

  2. Hope that measure will soon reach here. I love to see my grandchildren Worship with the Contemporary Songs, but there is just something about the "Old Hymns" that speaks volumns to the heart. For me, there is such a closeness to God. Others may feel the same way about the more modern version of songs, but I guess the old hymns will forever be in MY heart.
Hope your family haves a wonderful weekend....
    Hugs!

  3. There are actually a lot of young people who agree with you. Many of the college students in my church LOVE singing the old hymns, and get upset when we don't sing them enough.

  4. That sure makes me feel good Craig. A lot of them probably sung the hymns when they were little.
I don't want people to get me wrong. I do like a lot of the Contemporary Songs and don't mind adding them in, but I just feel that we need to at least sing more of the old hymns as well.
My girls love the new music....but yet they still know an old hymn when it is played!
    Blessings to all of you!

  5. So agree!!! Welcomed a visitor to our church a few weeks ago and he asked if he was at the right service, the one that sang the old hymns. Most of us mature adults feel the same and our memorization is put to the test learning all the verses. With the contemporary songs if you learn one phrase you have learned the song....same thing over and over and over!!!

  6. Come on over to First United Methodist of Murchison, Shug! That's where we go to church and the word "contemporary" is not something our congregation has ever heard of. Old hymns and old hymns ONLY every Sunday. :) Of course, most of our congregation is 70 plus in age!

Thank you for Blessing me today with your comments...

WHAT WILL I FIND.

A few weeks ago, Sam and our grandson Trey, emptied my storage building for me.  They put everything on an 18 foot trailer, and the trailer ...
