Halloween Past

Many Moons ago when life was simple, I remember Halloween as something quite different from what it is now.

This was a day that all kids could not wait for.  CANDY DAY!  That's what we called it....

Costumes were so simple and usually handmade.....

The only witches that we ever heard of were those in the story books.
If you did decide to dress up as a witch for Halloween, all that was needed was a black hat and maybe an eyebrow pencil to color a wart on the end of your nose.

Who had ever heard of WITCHCRAFT AND SATANIC RITUALS?  I don't even think these words could be found in our dictionaries.

This was just a night for having fun and collecting as much candy as you could get.
After all, you had to make it last a long, long time!  This night was all about kids!

We could not wait for the sun to go down.  That meant it was time to hit the neighborhoods.  Popcorn balls were my favorite.  I'm talking about HOMEMADE POPCORN BALLS.  Moms would work all day popping that corn and mixing it with Karo syrup and then they would roll them into perfect little balls for all the kids.

Another favorite thing about that night was "SOAP".  All of us kids would have at least a couple of bars of soap in our sack.  The soap would be used to write on the windows of every store in town.    The same 5 or 6 windows would get soaped every single year.  We really thought that we were doing something big.  The truth was....The store owners always expected their windows to be soaped.  This was the one and only time each year that the windows were washed.  I must admit, there were a few times that a house window might have been "Soaped" as well!

Doorbell ringing WAS NOT the thing back then...BECAUSE....not many people had doorbells... WE KNOCKED on doors and then we would run and hide.  The fun part was watching the people come to their doors. Most of the time it would just be a screen door.  (something that is unheard of these days)   We would do this over and over, just daring someone to come out and chase us.  (Everybody knew Everybody and there were no strangers in town)

My...How Times Have Changed....we truly were great kids and no harm was ever done.
It was all about having fun!  I have to ask myself what changed?  PLENTY, would be the best answer.

These truly were the 'GOOD OL' DAY'S'

I will never forget those special times in my life and I will never forget the friends that made me these memories with me.....

SHUG SEZ......

Take time to see GOOD in everything!

A Priceless Moment

How long has it been since you have experienced a "Priceless Moment?"

First of all I must say that I am truly married to the greatest guy on earth.  It is those unexpected, not even the slightest idea, out of the ordinary moments that I love...They take me to the clouds and make me feel appreciated.

My sweet husband surprised me with one of those moments yesterday morning.

If we are in town, we are almost always at Church on Sunday morning.  But.....out of the blue, he informed me that we would not be going to church because he had something planned.  What could it possibly Be?

My only instructions were to wear my brand new tennis shoes that he had just bought for me last week....I'm beginning to really wander at this point, because I am not a sneaker wearing kind of person.  Where could we be going?

Without me knowing about it, he filled the cooler with drinks and packed all the necessary items for a picnic.  He stopped by a BBQ restaurant and picked up our lunch and off we went.  What a surprise and a surprise that I really needed.  He had planned for us to drive out to the State Park and enjoy a nice quite picnic by the lake........

He found the perfect spot with a fantastic view of the lake for our picnic.  We could here people from across the lake as they paddled their canoes and we could also hear the splashing sound of the water as kids took a daring swim in
the chilly water.  Sam and I both enjoyed a delicious meal and we chatted about the craziest of things.

There was this one little honey bee that had the mind set that it was the boss of our table.  I tempted it with a left over rib and that little bugger had itself a wonderful time.....

(This is that little bugger)

Sam read the newspaper while I attempted to get a picture of a falling leaf.  This is one hard thing to do.  I really think that I was so caught up in watching the beautiful display of each leaf as it danced it's way down, that I was never quick enough to take the picture before it fell to the ground.

It was a perfect picnic and I was so at peace with all of my surroundings.  The "Shug-6" bug was waiting for us as we started to load everything up.  The top was down and the drive through the park was so relaxing as the fresh air blew against our faces.  What a Great Day....What a Day of great surprises and What a wonderful day it was to enjoy with the one I love.

(I love this old bench made of logs)

Think Coffee......

Good Morning and Happy Saturday to You!

Coffee....I need Coffee this morning and it will probably take more than a cup or two to get me back on my feet....

I had a date last night with Mr. NyQuil....Is he worth it?   This stuff sure has a way of helping you rest at night when your system is all congested, but it sure is tough trying to wake up the next morning.

It's already 8:00 and I feel as if I have wasted most of my day...I just like getting started EARLY in the mornings.

I have a strong feeling that all of those beautiful YELLOW plants that are out there blanketing the fields could be the number one culprit for my congestion.

RAIN...yes rain is exactly what we need to settle down all of the junk that is floating everywhere in the air....

Oh well...I guess I better try to shift my system into another gear.  I have some of my favorite friends coming tonight and I have a CHOCOLATE CAKE to bake today....

I hope you all will be Blessed today.  Enjoy a fabulous weekend with those you love..

Shug Sez......

Count your Blessings....Name them one by one!
