Moving Day....

Saturday was kinda like a bittersweet day around here.

Back in 2006, after my mom passed away, we built a smaller home for my dad.  It sits on the back side of my brother's property. This was the perfect location for us to be able to take care of him.  He used the same drive way as my brothers, and there was a sidewalk going from dads house to my brother's house.

My dad passed away in 2017.

Both of the houses sit on about 13 acres of land, with a big pond out back... With all of the mowing  and taking care of things around the place it had become more than my brother can take care of. He and my SIL are having some health issues and this was making things harder for David.

To make a long story short, my brother and sister-in-law listed the property and it has now sold.  This place is the perfect set up for the buyers with having two homes on the same property.  Their daughter and her family will live in my brother's home and the mom and dad will live in my dads home.

This past weekend was moving day.  Not only did we move my brother and SIL, but we had to move all of the stuff out of my dad's house as well.  I say we...but I only helped with packing and unpacking the boxes and smaller stuff.

My brother had movers come to move the furniture and the packed boxes....   It was so very bittersweet to see this part of life's journey come to an end.  I have so many memories of the days I spent taking care of my dad in this house.

It will be okay though...Change happens and new memories are made in different places... One of the biggest things I will miss is the RED Christmas lights that lit up every year on his (my dad) house.  He always had red lights on the house at Christmas...

Who knows....maybe the new owners will do the same.

And this my dear friends is the NEWS from my weekend...

Sweet Blessings!!

Oh Shug, I totally understand. When my brother sold my mom and dad's house, it really got to me. That house was built around the time I was born, so it had a lot of memories. And we took care of our parents in that house as well when they were aging. It's funny that you mentioned your dad had red lights at Christmastime because our neighbors across the street from our house used to put a string of red lights on their house outside. That was so good of you to help box things up and help out. It sounds like a nice house for their daughter and her family. And I hope your brother finds a nice place to live as well. Moving can be an exhausting time, and I do hope all will be settled and happy in time.

Shug, it's so hard to go through these types of changes. The last time I passed by my dad's old house, it didn't even look the same and I said that would be my last time to go by. It's just not the same house now, so there's no point. This is life and life seems to keep moving from season to season. Some are harder than others. Hugs to you :)

That was a hard day, but now it's done and you won't have the pain of it again. What to do with all the furniture and treasures, though?

Change is inevitable, but that doesn't mean it's easy!

A sad and bittersweet day for sure. I hope your brother and sister-in-law will still be living close to you, and found what they needed. Change is harder and harder for me as I get older. And things change so fast anymore!

That truly is a bittersweet time in your lives.
Moving is so much work even with a moving company doing the "heavy" stuff.
It sounds like a perfect solution for the people that bought the property. Definitely a win/win.
The older I get it seems that change is more difficult. But I do know who is in control and I cling to His promises daily.

Bittersweet, indeed, Shug. Changes are inevitable whether we like them or not. I hope and pray that the new owners of the property will treat the land with the same love and respect as you brother, SIL and your dad did. Blessings!

Changes are hard but I totally understand the upkeep problems with a property. It was good that you could help pack boxes:)

(((HUGS))) for you. I can well imagine the emotions going through your head and heart all day long. Yes, cleaning out my parents' home and seeing it sold was extremely difficult, and I still find it hard to drive by there. My Dad built that house when I was about 7 years old, and my parents both lived there until they died in their house, the way they wanted it to be. So yes, these things are hard. But life moves on and we keep our eyes on the prize of heaven, our heavenly home, and that keeps us on the right track. Praying for your brother and his wife that they will settle into their new home and be able to enjoy it without so much to take care of.

Bittersweet, indeed! Just the other day I was telling someone about a favorite quote, "New beginnings are apt to be shadowy."
Prayers for the journey!

It is hard to make those changes. Though I do not drive past Mom's former house directly, I o pass her street every day and could see her house each time I passed. I missed seeing her daffodils the new owner had removed.

It's not easy to come to terms with someone else living in the house our parents lived in. We always remember the good times we spent in those houses. But life goes on...

Very fortunate for the family who bought the place. It sounds perfect for them. Change like that is hard and there are so many changes to deal with as we get older.

May the Lord comfort all of you with this change. I really mean that. Change is necessary at the right times, but even when it's the perfect solution, it can be tough to process. It sounds like you and your family have done and continue to do what is truly best for all.

I pray the sweet memories on that property supersede the ache of turning the last page on this life-chapter. I pray the new occupants DO put red lights on the house! That would provide sweet closure to this difficult time you've endured.

These types of things are difficult. I do hope red lights are strung all around that house.

It is so hard to go through days like this - memories - what it means - seeing how life changes. I know it is hard. I think you have a good outlook. Prayers for Sam.

Hello dear Shug. I understand that bittersweet moment. The 1886 brick farmhouse I grew up in was sold a few years ago and the man who bought it had intended to restore it to its original design, but at some point, he gave up on that idea, tore it down and built a beautiful new house on the property. But as you say...it is time to move on looking for new memories. xx

Yes, it is bitter sweet. I found it very difficult. It broke me, for sure.
All the best.

Hi Shug....You and Sam are in challenging times, that's for sure. Prayers continue. The moving must have been very bittersweet. We sure have to go through a lot as we get older, right? Changes like Niagra Falls come whether we want them to or not. I used to tell my kids this nugget of life's wisdom....."If you can adjust to change and learn to solve problems, life will be okay." That still makes a lot of sense and my kids both have kids of their own now. Know that you are thought of with dearest thoughts and prayers, and Sam, too, Shug. Hugs. Susan

Thanks for the update and I'm glad the doctors were able to get fluid from his lungs. Such a long time to be in the hospital.
Prayers continuing for you and your darling hubby.
