Walking in Valleys

Have you ever found yourself in one of life’s valleys and wondered when you were finally going to see the sunshine again?

The truth is, none of us are promised a life without hardships. There will be days filled with joy and laughter, and there will be days that leave us tired, discouraged, and wondering why the road has become so difficult.

The past few weeks our valley seems to growing and getting deeper and deeper.... I might could even say the past few months.......Yes, most of this year has been a valley.

Sam has been sick, and for several weeks now, I have not felt well....not felt myself....and have had little energy.   It’s been one of those times when simply getting through the day has taken all the energy I could find.

On Thursday I guess my body had decided on it's own that if I wasn't going to slow down, then it would slow down for me.  Around 9;20 on Thursday morning, things got bad for me.  I had broke out in a full sweat.. sweat dripping from my head and neck, along with feeling clammy all over.  I was nauseous and felt faint.

Suddenly, the room was spinning and I could barely move...My calf muscles were aching and I  did not know what was happening...I made it to the bed, but I couldn't lie back, couldn't stand up and was just frozen still.  Shanda had already gone to the store for me to get me some liquid IV because I felt a little weak, and I knew she would be here soon....when she came in, she could see that I was having problems.  Sam came in and Shanda phoned Trista to come home.

They ended up calling an ambulance for me and I did go to the ER..  The doctor was very thorough in making sure I wasn't having a stroke or heart issues.  He did test and ordered a lot of blood work.. I also took in two bags of fluids, some nausea meds and something for the vertigo.

I was dehydrated, I had a bad UTI and I was having vertigo.  After a day at the hospital and some meds, I came home and have been resting ever since... Hopefully the UTI will get better soon.... I've been drinking lots of water and juice to help with the dehydration.....and the vertigo is better.

If you’ve stopped by my blog lately, you’ve probably noticed something unusual. I haven’t even changed my blog page! Now, if you know me at all, you know that is so unlike me. I love changing it up and making it inviting, but I just haven’t felt well enough to do it.  Could it be STRESS?  You know, stress can do so much harm to our bodies...

I also haven’t had the strength to read your wonderful blogs or leave the comments that I enjoy so much. If I’ve missed your posts or haven’t responded, please know it wasn’t intentional. I just haven't felt well enough to do so.  I truly miss visiting each of you, and I hope you’ll accept my sincere apology. I can’t wait to get back to reading your stories and reconnecting.

As I sat here, God has gently reminded me of a simple but powerful truth.

We all walk through valleys.

Some valleys are caused by illness. Others come through loss, disappointment, worry, or circumstances beyond our control. None of us are exempt.

But here’s what brings me peace: God doesn’t ask us to walk through those valleys alone.

He goes before us.

He walks beside us.

He stays behind us.

There has never been a single moment when God has abandoned one of His children.

Sometimes He calms the storm.

Sometimes He calms His child while the storm continues.

Either way, He is faithful.

I’ve learned that the deepest valleys often become the places where our faith grows the strongest. It’s where we discover that His grace truly is sufficient and that His strength really is made perfect in our weakness.

If you’re in a valley today, don’t give up.

Keep trusting.

Keep praying.

Keep taking one step at a time.

The valley isn’t where your story ends. It’s simply a chapter that God is using to draw you closer to Him.

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” — Psalm 23:4

Thank you for your prayers, your friendship, and your grace during this season. I hope to be back in full blogging mode real soon....For right now, I'll do what I can in posting and in catching up with you all..  One thing that I can say is that even when I feel bad, joy comes to me through my blogging...

Until then, remember this: The God who meets us on the mountaintops is the very same God who walks beside us in the valleys. And He has never failed us yet.

  1. Aw Shug, I'm sorry you have been dealing with this on top of Sams illness. Don't worry a bit about us, just take care of yourself.

  2. I just KNEW something was wrong! But I didn't want to be nosey! I am so glad this was nothing serious. I have had horrible vertigo attacks. The kind where things spin even with your eyes closed. And it will make you nauseous, too. I know your heart hurts so much for Sam, you have been together for so long. And that stress can contribute so much to your health. I continue to pray for him and you. You are so strong, and I know God is with you through all of this.

  5. I am so sorry you have been going through this, but I am glad you went to the hospital and got the fluids and antibiotics, etc., that your body sorely needed. Hopefully that will recharge your system and you will get better every day. Yes, stress has a lot to do with the way we feel, and it can definitely lead to illness. Those UTI's are really mean, and older we get, the more they seem to take advantage of our weaknesses in one way or another. My doctor told me to take a 1000 mg. of Vitamin C every day to help ward them off. He said it makes the urine more acidic so that the infections can't get started so easily. You may want to check with your Dr. before doing this, but it has worked for me as I used to get them quite frequently, and since I started that I haven't had one. Thank you for updatiing us. We will be keeping you in prayer as you navigate a lot of stormy seas going on around you. And yes, when we know Jesus, He is always right there with us, carrying us when necessary, or walking beside us the rest of the way. We are so blessed to be His children. May the Lord strengthen and help you and give you His peace and strength for each new day. (((HUGS)))

  6. Oh, Shug, I'm so very sorry you have been having these struggles! Yes, know I'll be praying for your healing and wellness. It amazes me that in the midst of your own valleys, you can still encourage all of us to bravely walk through our own. You are a genuine inspiration to so many who visit here. May God continue to bless you as you bless so many others!

  8. I am so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. There is never a need to apologize for not getting around to visit or not posting. You are more important. Just take care of yourself and get better. Whenever I find myself in one of those valleys I always remind myself that "If He leads me to it, He will lead me through it".

  9. Don't drink juice or anything with sugar, because it feeds bacteria and worsens symptoms. Anti bacteria remedies that help medications include raw chopped garlic, ginger, oregano oil capsules, echinacea and elderberry extract.

  13. Oh, what a fright, dear Shug! I love how your daughters "surround the wagon" when you (and Sam) need a boost, both physically and emotionally.
Your words never fail to touch me deeply. I hope and pray you're take these reassurances and include in your upcoming book!

  14. Valleys -- we go through them, which means they come to an end [eventually]. "Yea, thought I walk THROUGH the valley of death...."

A week or so ago I had a bout of food poisoning (not the dreaded one that's in the news) and I had some of the symptoms you recently experienced. As awful as that was, like you, I KNEW the Lord was right there and no matter how it would turn out, it would be okay. Our faith gets tested a lot in many ways, but our Lord is faithful.

Not to worry about responding to blog posts. I'm sure other bloggers understand, as I do, that we can only do so much and we mean well, however that comes out. May you feel much better very soon.

  16. Shug, I am sorry that I didn't read this yesterday. I am so sorry to hear of all you are going through right now. My goodness, my dear sweet friend, you have really been under the weather. Please know that I am praying for you and wishing that there was more that I could do. God has used you to encourage and bless me so much in the short period of time we have "known" each other and it's not taken lightly, but rather you are counted as a treasure. xx

  18. Well, very few posts leave me with a tear. I'm so sorry, dear Shug, that you went through all of this. I was thinking when you said you were tired that the summer heat also zaps the energy from us, but then you mentioned the UTI, which is awful in itself. It's good that you had Shanda and Trista right there to help. I've known people who had vertigo, and that is awful as well.

Sometimes He calms the storm. Sometimes He calms His child while the storm continues.......I love that.

Take it easy, and I hope you feel better very soon. You are precious to all of us. And try to stay out of the Texas heat, or at least for a while. I also wanted to mention that your words of faith are beautifully written.

Continuing to pray for you and Sam
