Summer Day Hodgepodge

πŸ–️Summer Day Hodgepodge πŸ–️

1. Summer’s Here! ☀️

What I love most about summer is the long days. I love having extra daylight to enjoy life a little longer. Whether it’s sitting on the porch, taking a walk, or watching a beautiful sunset, summer evenings seem to last forever.

My biggest summer pet peeve? Stepping in a piece of chewed gum that someone carelessly spit out on the ground. Nothing ruins a good day faster than scraping gum off your shoe!

2. What song always reminds you of summer? 🎢

Island in the Sun by Weezer. The laid-back vibe and carefree feel of that song instantly transport me to warm sunny days, road trips, and summertime adventures.

3. Childhood Summers 🌻

When I think about childhood summers, I remember being outside from morning until dark. Running through the water sprinkler, cheering at my brothers’ baseball games, eating homemade ice cream, and going barefoot almost everywhere. I loved visiting my Papa’s store where he’d always let me have a free soda and a piece of bubblegum. Vacation Bible School was another summer highlight, along with all the simple joys that came with being a kid.

Do kids today enjoy summer the same way? Not a chance......Many children spend more time indoors with screens than outside making memories. They don’t know the excitement of racing through sprinklers, catching lightning bugs, riding bikes until sunset, or spending entire days outside with neighborhood friends. Summer felt like freedom back then, and I think a lot of that magic has been lost.

4. Father’s Day ❤️

I probably favor my dad more in temperament than appearance. He was steady, kind, hardworking, and always there when his family needed him. Truthfully, we’ve been blessed with some of the best dads in our family. Their love, guidance, and example have shaped generations, and I couldn’t ask for better role models.

5. Summer This or That 🌞

  • Flip flops or sandals? Flip flops
  • Beach or pool? Pool
  • Watermelon or peaches? Watermelon
  • Shorts or sundress? Both!
  • Iced coffee or ice-cold lemonade? Ice-cold lemonade
  • Amusement park or water park? Water park

6. Random Thought πŸ’

Summer teaches us that some of life’s best memories aren’t expensive or elaborate. They’re found in simple moments—a cold glass of lemonade, bare feet in the grass, laughter with family, and watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon. Sometimes the simplest things end up meaning the most. ❤️☀️🌻

  1. My grandkids discovered our sprinkler the other night and immediately started running through it in their clothes. They had so much fun and I was reminded simple pleasures really are the best. Hope you have a great day!

  4. I love everything about your #3, Shug! How blessed we were to have fertile imaginations and the means to make even the silliest things entertaining.

That water park image at the top looks so much like a place in Ft. Worth where I nearly drowned, lol!

  6. It's sad that kids aren't allowed to play in the summer like we did. When both parents work full time, full-time activities for the children have to be planned.

  7. I agree that the simplest of things can have the most meaning and make the best memories.
I did love Summer as a kid. Lots of barefeet, running through the sprinkler, buying an ice cream bar from the neighborhood ice cream truck that came around our block.
Riding bikes all day long and going here and there without the worries like today.
Camping with my folks and getting to have my best friend come along for the week. Since I was an only child it was fun to have a friend with us . but if I didn't I managed to find a girlfriend in the camping place to play with. Some of them became pen pals for many years.
I was blessed to have loving folks and friends to fill my days.

  8. The longer days of summer are fantastic and yuck to the gum!
It is a shame that kids spend more time indoors than we did and don't have that freedom.

  9. Fun to read, Shug. I like reading outside in the summer. It's the best!

  10. Love your cute summer header! Yes, summer was all about being outside all day long for me. Sad that now this is just too dangerous. We would catch fireflies, roller skate, ride bikes and explore the creek. For some reason, we were never bored!

  11. Oh this sure brought back the happy summer memories! Yes, yes, yes!!! Gum on the shoe is a terrible thing, but probably not as bad as doggy doo. PU. Ice cold fresh lemonade! Oh, how I miss that, and homemade popsicles made in the Tupperware popsicle maker thing. Playing in the sprinklers was alway a great way to cool off on a hot summer day. Being outside all day regardless of how hot it was here in Florida...we didn't know the difference, because we didn't have AC back then, so outside was sometimes cooler than inside. We kept ourselves entertained. My family traveled up through the Smoky mountains and camped in State Parks in tents on our way to visit relatives in Ohio and PA. Nothing better than cooking our breakfast outside...and eating lunch at roadside parks along the way...no McDonalds back then. Sweet memories. Sometimes I wish I could do all of that again! Thank you for sharing your memories and stirring up mine. It was a pleasant diversion.
