Hodgepodge Questions and Answers from my phone

It's Hodgepodge Wednesday with Joyce.. Again, I am posting from my phone and I am limited on what I can do.

 1. What’s something you find extremely difficult that most people would say is simple?

I can’t swim. Most people think swimming is something everyone naturally learns growing up, but for me it has always felt intimidating. I admire people who can jump into the water without a second thought while I’m over here clinging to the edge like it’s a life mission. It’s funny how the “simple things” in life aren’t always simple for everyone. We all have that one thing that makes us nervous while someone else does it with ease.

2. Does the season of summer make you feel like life is beginning over again? Elaborate.

Yes..... Summer has a way of making life feel lighter and brighter. The days stretch out longer, flowers bloom wildly, and everything feels full of possibility again. I love the sunshine pouring through the windows, the smell of sunscreen and fresh-cut grass, and hearing kids laugh outside. This makes my heart feel young again. Summer reminds me that life is always offering us another chance to start fresh, dream bigger, and slow down long enough to soak in the beauty around us.

3. Pickles. Love ’em or no thank you?

Oh, I absolutely love pickles… especially a good crunchy kosher pickle. But sweet pickles? They belong in my tuna salad right alongside grapes, apples, and pecans. That sweet-and-salty combination is pure comfort food happiness to me. And honestly, some foods just feel incomplete without a pickle on the side. A hamburger without pickles? That’s just bad decision-making.

4. Tis the season… do you know any June brides?

Actually, I was a June bride myself — June 16th.  June offers something sweet and timeless when it comes to a wedding.  I don’t know anyone getting married this June, but my granddaughter is getting married in November, and that makes my heart so happy. Watching the next generation begin their own love story is one of life’s greatest blessings. Weddings always remind me that no matter how crazy the world gets, love still keeps showing up beautifully.

5. National Say Something Nice Day — say something nice here.

To my blog friends:

Never underestimate the impact your words have. A simple comment, a kind message, or even showing up faithfully to read someone’s thoughts can brighten a day more than you realize. In a world that often rushes past people, kindness still stands out like sunshine after a storm. Thank you for being part of this little corner of the internet where laughter, stories, prayers, and friendship still matter. You are appreciated more than you know.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Random thought:
Why does folding a fitted sheet still feel like trying to solve a mystery designed by NASA? No matter how many tutorials exist, mine always ends up looking like a crumpled tortilla with commitment issues.

  4. Glad to read that report on Sam's eye. Praying for you tomorrow!
Yes to sweet pickles, but a hard no on dill. :) I still like you even though you seem to make bad pickle decisions. :)

    1. Oh yes, I forgot to mention dill pickles ... my utmost favorite ... as a kid I always saved my pennies and then went to our corner store to buy an "All-day Dill Pickle". They were huge and kept in a big glass crock. I guess my perfume of the day was o'du-pickle juice ...

  6. I am the same with the fitted sheets. I have watched countless videos yet have not mastered this feat. I also must have pickles in my tuna salad. Our anniversary is the same day as yours : ) We're celebrating early as it's also my grandson's birthday and Father's Day is usually in the mix too so we try to mark it in some way just the two of us. Have a great day!

  8. So thankful to hear of Sam's good report when seeing his eye surgeon! And glad that he removed that one stitch that was bothering Sam! What a relief that must be.

Praying for you, my friend, for your heart cath tomorrow. Actually, I've already been praying for it.

Enjoyed your answers to the questions this week.

  9. Swimming is not easy for everyone! My eldest daughter can't and really struggled with the swimming lessons at school, most of the time she refused to get into the pool.
Summer is a wonderful time of year. I love the longer days and how we seem to have more energy.
Thank you for your blog, I am so glad I came across it.
Yes to the fitted sheets, why can't they just make them simpler to fold.

  10. Hahahahaha on the fitted sheet. It's so true.

Love pickles too! Make fridge ones and fermented. So good!

    Wishing you a yummy week.

  11. LOL in reference to the fitted sheet, dear Shug. :) #5 touched my heart, dear friend. God bless you!

  12. I do agree with you about blog friends - they can make you feel wanted and loved. I also agree with you about fitted sheets!

  13. Those fitted sheets are my nemesis. Now I just roll them into a ball, tuck them in the closet and call it a day! Haha!! Hope all goes well with your procedure...you are in my prayers!

  14. I wish you a beautiful morning and an even more beautiful day...Hug, Andreja

  15. Join the club, deep water creeps me out and I never learned to swim growing up. Information re amoebas, parasites, mosquito larvae, bacteria, chemical dumps, creepy shit crawling around the bottom just reinforces my caution.

  16. I was a june bride for my first marriage. I'm right there with you, I can't swim either. I did take swimming lessons once but I think I only went a couple times. I love the water but just don't feel comfortable in it.

  17. Shug, you always make me smile :) As I'm reading this post, it is 6:10 am on Thursday morning, so I'm praying for you now!! Something I can't do, that most people can...a cartwheel. Never could. And, for the record...I love pickles, but my favorite are Fickle Pickles from Gruene, Tx. Look them up and order a case! Worth every penny. Oh, and I sent you something in the mail. Hope it's there when you get home :)

  18. Try folding the sheet with the mattress still in it - much easier!
    God bless.

  19. Fitted bed sheets: all of ours except one are folded (wadded up?) in a linen closet that Gary arranged long before he and I got married. The one remaining fitted sheet gets washed once a week and then immediately put back on our bed. So that's how I avoid that tricky conundrum!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree about the fitted sheets. Prayers always for all that you and Sam have been going thru. Let me know about your cath as soon as you can.

  21. Hahaha on the fitted sheets. I've finally given up trying to make them look neat. It's not like someone's going to come inspect my linen closet.... are they? I'd just be happy if I got the width and length right the first time!
Hoping you're resting well and passed that procedure with flying colors!

  22. Have you ever seen the meme (It pains me to use this word!) of the correct way to fold a fitted sheet? I wish I could post it here, but the best I can do is this link:

  23. Happy Hodgepodge Wednesday! Writing this all from your phone is no easy feat, but you absolutely smashed it—this was such a delightful read!

Your answer about swimming is so valid. It is incredibly common to feel intimidated by deep water, and honestly, clinging to the edge like it's a life mission is just a smart survival strategy! And I completely agree with you on summer, there is a magical, light energy to the season that genuinely makes the heart feel young again. The imagery of sunshine pouring through the windows and the smell of fresh-cut grass is just pure bliss.

Now, your tuna salad recipe with sweet pickles, grapes, apples, and pecans? That sounds absolutely divine. That perfect crunch and sweet-and-salty combo is culinary genius. And you are 100% correct: a hamburger without pickles is a absolute tragedy.

Happy early anniversary to you! Being a June 16th bride sounds so classic and romantic. How incredibly exciting that your granddaughter is getting married this November, too. Watching that next generation step into their own love story must make your heart burst with pride.
