Y'all... apparently I've reached that stage in life where my brain says, "I came up with a really great idea," and reality says, "Oh honey...no, you didn't."
For the past week, I've been patiently waiting on a delivery from Amazon. I ordered these bright, cheerful flowers that I've been so excited about. Every day I'd think, "they should be here any day now."
I've been checking the front porch, and even wondering if we might have a porch thief in our area.
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON...(because my past two weeks have been FULL)...I decided to check my orders.
Y'all...Y'all...Y'all 😀😂
I NEVER even pressed the ORDER BUTTON.
Not once..not at all.
So, I sat there staring at my computer, wondering if maybe the batteries in my brain slipped out and rolled under the couch. How does this happen? How do you search and add to your cart but fail to press the order button?
Let's talk about why I wanted these flowers in the first place. I had this brilliant idea (and I use that term loosely)...I was going to mix these colorful little blooms in with my foxtail ferns that are scattered around the pool. My thinking? All that gorgeous color with absolutely ZER0 watering. This seemed like a win-win situation to me.
Low maintenance..High beauty...No hose required. NO HIGH WATER BILL. Sounds like a great idea doesn't it?
Can you imagine had I ordered them and placed them in the pots around the pool...Pure beauty! But just yesterday after I realized I had not placed the order, it came to me, What would the hummingbirds have thought?
Those sweet things would be out there zooming in, doing their usual inspection, hovering over so delicately....only to find out they've been completely fooled.
No nectar, no reward. Just a whole lot of disappointment.
Now, I'm sitting here wondering which is worse....forgetting to place the order, or actually placing it and becoming the neighborhood hummingbird trickster.
Oh the problems we create when we think we've come up with something so clever. And what was I thinking when I thought this clever idea would work? Did I forget that my foxtail ferns still would need to be watered?
Bless my heart!
Shug...
Always grateful for each of you!!

You could have one real pot of flowers for the Hummers:) I get you with the watering...you need an automatic watering system!
ReplyDeleteGreat Idea Connie.. I do need a watering system. I'll have to get one of my grandsons to help me install this..
DeleteWell, all's well that ends well! sometims we get that second chanceat the 20/20 hindsight and are happy we made the right choice, even if by accident! LOL. I'm sure your hummingbirds are thankful! "It's not nice to fool Mother Nature!" (Remember that commercial?) LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh how thankful I am for second chances. LOL..you are so right Pamela..I do not want to try to fool Mother Nature. I went ahead and placed my order, so maybe I will use a couple of the faux flowers and kinda stuff them down so that the hummers do not go after them first. I think I have plenty of plants that are full of nectar in the blooms so hopefully, we all will be happy..
DeleteOh my I've done that before, too! I saw those flowers on Amazon, too. You could stick a pole in with the flowers and add a feeder? I might get them. Thanks for reminding me to add them to my cart and to hit order! 😘
ReplyDeleteThey are really nice...I have a neighbor who purchased some and they actually look good. I just finished going ahead and ordering them..
DeleteAhh! The best laid plans of mice and men go awry, don't they, Shug? A good thing you never pushed that order button is what I say. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThey sure do Martha...LOL...I did go ahead and order them...I think I will use them in my front flower bed where I have some river rock.
DeleteI've done that before. It's irritating!
ReplyDeleteIt is so irritating to catch yourself doing things like this. The funny thing was me waiting each day for the order to arrive.
DeleteHa! I've done that too. I just got off the phone with a friend and we were talking about how our brains tell us we are still young, and then our bodies say - what are you thinking?
ReplyDeleteI guess I need some Prevagen... I don't know if those supplements work or not, but I do know they are expensive. A good rest might do the trick or I need to stop letting my. brain tell me I am Young..
DeleteBeen there, done that!
ReplyDeleteHaven't we all...it's good that we can laugh about it....laugh at ourselves..
DeleteHeeHee ... Bless Your Heart !!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Real Life adventure this morning. I do think we may be Sisters from another mother !!
This is definitely something I would do but I have an excuse ... I'm older than Dirt and my senior moments come too often ..(:0)
I'm sure the Hummers will thank you for not being a trickster ... Those "flowers" are so pretty but as you say, the ferns still need to be watered so...
I forgot to say that I really love your new banner and the polka dots border a bunch.
Its raining here today too. The weeds are so happy!
Just now I heard a thump and a bang ... the ever loving squirrel was leaping from the side fence onto our roof and on the roof highway to who knows where. Every time he does that it sounds like the fence is going to tumble down or the tree limbs are going to break. That squirrel is quite the acrobat.. still am not wild about them and some of the destructive things they do ... Rodents are not my favorite.

I have done this!! Not only that...I will have a great idea, then forget what it was! Well, in this case it was good that you forgot. They are so gorgeous! I actually thought they were real until I read more.
ReplyDeleteOne of our downstairs neighbors have taken it upon themselves to fill the large flowerpots on either side of the front door with silk flowers similar to the ones you almost bought. I was skeptical, but they look great, and no one has to maintain them.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was a God Wink! I will say I bought the exact flowers for my outside flowerpot - but we do not have hummingbirds!
ReplyDeleteYou are in such good company, girlfriend! I've done similar things in placing internet orders. Humbling.
ReplyDeleteThey look soooo real. There's nothing like real flowers for the hummingbirds' pleasure, but these will be easy to maintain, no watering, and they will look wonderful sitting in pots next to your pool. Not pressing the order button....it's something I would probably do as well, Shug. ; )
ReplyDelete**thank you so much for your prayers for safe travels. It's harder to drive the freeways as I age, so your prayers mean so much to me.
So glad I'm not the only one! A wise woman once advised, "Everything happens for a reason."
ReplyDeleteI did that once too. I was waiting for my stuff and a week later realized I never sent the order. Funny Post.
ReplyDeleteI have forgotten to press the order button before. Great minds think alike! lol
ReplyDeleteWell a mixed blessing!
ReplyDeleteHaha! This absolutely made me giggle. I love the humanity of it. Thank you for making me feel good about when I have those moments. Lol Maybe you could still do the planters and just put out hummingbird feeders? 😉
ReplyDeleteMy issue is putting things in the shopping cart and never hitting order. I procrastinate so long I change my mind. The flowers are pretty but yes, it would have been a big disappointment to the hummingbirds.
ReplyDeleteEasy mistake to make ... but it saves money too.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I like Carrie's idea. Put out the flowers, but make sure to have feeders too. And like Ann said...usually if we leave something in the cart long enough, we change our minds anyway :) Life is short...do what brings you joy...even if that means fake flowers!!
ReplyDeleteOops! I have done that before, waited for something that I never even ordered. Those flowers are so pretty though.
ReplyDeleteYes, my sweet friend, bless your heart. It's easy to forget to click on that order button...at least that's what I'm telling myself when I do it. :) xx
ReplyDeleteThose flowers would have fooled me too. They look so real.
