A Syrup, Sacrifice, and Sparkle kind of Hodgepodge!! 💎
Joyce Asks the Questions
We Answer the Questions
1. The Hodgepodge lands on Ash Wednesday, which is the first day of Lent. Do you mark this season in some way? Will you be giving something up or adding something to your life in this Lenten season?
During this season, I am choosing to mark the season not just by what I give up, but by what I pay closer attention to. I hope to be more observant of the needs of others. I want to lean into the small, intentional acts that often go unnoticed. I just want to slow down and examine my heart...did I respond with grace? Did I offer help without being asked? Did I choose compassion over convenience? These things are so important.
2. Pancakes....are you a fan? Syrup or no syrup? Plain, blueberries, chocolate chips, bananas, or some other add in? Are pancakes on you menu this week?
I do like pancakes and I always use syrup. Are they good for me? Not really...not when they are all spread with butter and the sweetness of rich Aunt Jemima goodness.
3. Tell us about a time recently when you felt spread too thin.
I think I have been frayed since March of last year with my husbands cancer diagnosis. I just have to keep in mind that God is in control.
4. What's your favorite jewel or gemstone? In terms of your wardrobe would we find more gem tones, pastels, black and white, or primary colors?
A girl will probably always have a soft spot for diamonds, and I am no exception. I love the way they sparkle. To be honest, Black onyx holds a special place in my heart. I think of it as being bold and classic.
The same love for the color of black shows up in my closet as well. I think black and white looks clean and simple.....and very dependable. I do have a few primary colors sprinkled in for personality.5. What responsibility do you think is hardest about being in charge?
For me... one of the hardest parts about being in charge isn't making the decisions...it's carrying them with confidence. Sometimes, leadership has a way of magnifying self-doubt, which is something I have to always work on. I just try to trust my instincts and move forward.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
"Random thoughts" is always a difficult prompt for me. I am a bit overly organized by nature which means a lot of list and labeled folders. I almost freeze when asked about random thoughts. I suppose that for this question today, my random thought would be "What two books do I need to purchase for my long flights in a couple of weeks." I need something good to read.....any suggestions?
As always, I appreciate Joyce for hosting the Wednesday Hodgepodge.
Blessings to all...
Shug..✝

Hello Friend,
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you and Sam. Gosh, it is coming up on a year already regarding Sam.
I pray for the doctors as they care for Sam.
I liked how you answered #1.
Love, Carla
Hey Carla...my dear friend. Your blog is always my first to read on Wednesday Hodgepodge day. I love all that you have to say...
DeleteI love your answers on #1. Something for me to think about too.
ReplyDeleteI continue to pray for you and Sam.
Mari...we so appreciate the prayers. Seems like a fog most days in knowing that we are going through something we never imagined. Blessings
DeletePlaying closer attention to the needs of others -- that's a good goal. I want to do that, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara. I feel that this is where I can help, so I want to do what God would have me do.
DeleteThose are some great goals/considerations in your first answer. We are trying to help and support and encourage good friends who got the big C diagnosis a year ago. It is an exhausting road to travel. I don't know how people who do not know the Lord carry on. Hope the rest of this week is smooth sailing.
ReplyDeleteHi Ellen....saddens me when I hear of the C diagnosis. I will be praying with you for this friend of yours. We all need to lift one another up for healing and I am happy to be a prayer warrior for this person.
DeleteShug, your answers are so thoughtful and transparent. I continue to pray for you and Sam. Praying that the fluid issue can be resolved and that you will have peace of mind as you travel far from home.
ReplyDelete(((hugs)))
Sue
Sam and I both can feel the prayers and we are so thankful. When our grandson had Leukemia at the age of 8...oh my goodness, we have a world of prayers coming his way. I do believe strongly in the power of prayer. Today, Tucker is a healthy big man...standing 6'3' and as handsome as can be. Thank you Sue...you're the best!!
DeleteYour answer for #1 did make me smile and those things are so important.
ReplyDeleteYum to the pancakes! I only have them around once a year so I do enjoy them and probably eat too many.
No wonder you have been frayed, I hope your husband is doing well.
I struggle with the random thought too! I hope you find some good books!
Yes..Kim...the random thoughts really make me have to think. lol. Like you, I usually have pancakes maybe once a year. Sam is a diabetic and I just don't like to eat foods in front of him that I know he doesn't need...even with sugar free syrup. Have a awesome day.
DeleteI can so identify with this journey you and Sam are traveling together. Back in 2013 during his lung cancer treatments, I'd have given anything to know you and glean even a little of your wisdom. I hope some of this makes its way into that book you're penning -- what a gift for other caregivers!
ReplyDeletePlease know, Shug, that I pray for Sam and you each and every day. Yes, I know what it feels like to be frayed at the ends when the one we love is navigating health issues. But you are right when you acknowledge that God is the One in control. He holds each of us and our needs in His loving hands.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you're feeling better! Decisions and everything else is so much harder when you are sick. I make a lot of lists to organize as well.
ReplyDeleteTheo Of Golden by Levi Allen is really good. If you haven't read it I recommend. It leaves you thinking about how you interact with others, or at least it did me. I loved it. I'm glad you're feeling better and hope your hubs procedure goes well.
