A Look at Our Winter Weather...
This morning is greeting us with temperatures in the low 30's and it there is just enough chill that makes you hesitate before stepping outside.
I'm even questioning right now whether my coffee is really hot enough for this weather.
Not sure how long it will last, but I think Winter has officially clocked in for work this morning.
But...here is the funny thing.
Just last Thursday and Friday, we were living our best spring lives with temperatures hanging out in the mid to upper 70's. My windows were opened and we all had on short sleeves and flip flops.
Winter must have taken a short vacation on those days.
Not only do I have roses blooming, our shrubs are blooming as well.
This shrub is Loropetalum, also knows as Chinese Fringe Flower.
And then there's the greenhouse....Sam's own little slice of tropical confusion. Inside, oranges and grapefruits are almost ready.
Even my outdoor ferns (the ones planted in the ground) are thriving. They seem to be loving this weather.
Cooler mornings, warmer afternoons, with just enough unpredictability to keep things interesting for me. I cover them up in the late evenings and uncover them about mid morning.
For me, it's socks in the mornings and flip flops in the afternoons...then back to socks in the evenings! LOL
Maybe there is a quiet lesson tucked into this unpredictable season. Life doesn't always bloom on schedule. Sometimes beauty show up early, late or right in the middle of what feels like the wrong timing. But....GOD"s timing is ALWAYS where it is supposed to be.
I look at it like this.
Maybe this is what stillness looks like.
Not the absence of change, but the ability to remain rooted while everything around us shifts. The Temperatures rise and fall, the seasons blur, and yet the blooms come anyway.
Stillness teaches us to pause, to notice, and to trust that God is working even when life feels unpredictable.
In the quiet...growth happens. In the waiting, beauty unfolds.
Stillness allows us to see it!!

Your acorns are a bit different than ours; yours are lighter and big. I always wondered the difference between a bird's nest and squirrel's nest - thanks for sharing this picture. And then in your greenhouse, Sam is growing the most wonderful oranges and grapefruits. My dad often had a grapefruit for breakfast, and he passed that onto me, cause I still love them. It sounds chilly in the mornings there too. And I laughed at your statement.... I'm even questioning right now whether my coffee is really hot enough for this weather. You made my day, Shug. Life doesn't always go as we think it should. I love how adaptable you are - shoes in the am - flip flops in the afternoon - and socks at night.
ReplyDeleteWe have been having the same weather. In the 70's one day and the 30's the next. It seems just wrong, I guess it is the warming climate. Which is a whole other thing. Your fern is lovely, I have not seen one like it. And the Fringe Flower is stunning! I have never seen or heard of this plant. It looks like it would be a good pollinator. How else can we hear God is we do not have still moments?

ReplyDeleteAmen Sister! beautiful post.. we have been in mid low 80s and mid 60's for weeks and today woke up to 49, brrr and then all the way to 78, back down in the 60's now and dropping. I actually love this kind of weather, not TOO COLD or TOO HOT.. if we had rain it would be perfect.
ReplyDeleteOur weather here in the lower Midwest can vary greatly also, depending on whether the wind is blowing from the north or south. I enjoy the variety--sometimes it's a light jacket one day, a winter coat with gloves, scarf, and boots the next! / I love your view of stillness in God--the ability to stand firm in him no matter how the wind blows. ReplyDeleteI well remember the crazy weather swings in Texas. You hardly knew how to dress some days! And when it is cold, it is terribly cold. I laughed at your statement about the coffee! Trying to stay warm can be a challenge when the weather swings like it does. So wonderful to grow the citrus fruit. Love your words about stillness, and just waiting. Beautiful thoughts, my friend!
