All about Valentines

How many of you pull out decorations when February rolls around? Do you sprinkle hearts around the house or maybe swap out your everyday pillows for something red or pink?

Or...does Valentine's Day come and go with barely a mention?

I've seen some really cute quilted hearts on facebook and some really neat decorations on Pinterest....even some dessert recipes, BUT....I'm not one that takes the time to pull out decorations for such a short time.  Check out these cute charcuterie boards...

I think that Valentine's seems to fall into one of those love it or leave it categories.  I have friends who go all out....special dinners, cards, gifts...the whole nine yards.  And then I have friends (like me) who feels like it's just another commercial day.

Here I am sounding like I'm a Fuddy-dud.  I'm not...I'm really not.  I may have a special candle out, or a simple heart shaped candy dish, but these are my contributions to the Valentines decorating theme.

Of course, I'm always up for a nice evening meal where Sam and I can celebrate in style...at a restaurant...that serves a delicious meal.  lol..

So....my questions for this post are:

Do you decorate for Valentines Day?

Do you make it a big celebration or keep it low key?

Do you celebrate by giving to friends, your love, your family...OR all three?

Do you prefer to have dinner out or make a valentines day dinner at home.

I would love to see how Valentines looks in your homes.

As a side note......I still have every single Valentines Day card that Sam has ever given me....I think the count is like 58!!  I love to pull them out and look at the messages he wrote in them, as well as to see how much cards have changed over the years.

Hearts to you all....💞💞💞💞💞

  1. I actually love Valentine's Day because I love all that it comes with - pink and red, hearts, roses, chocolate, and love. I do put things out for Valentine's Day, but it doesn't just come and go, cause I put them out mid January, so I can enjoy them for a month or so. I always send my grandchildren Valentine surprises, cause they love getting them. And I don't think it has to be about that one special someone. I love it when my children and my brother and friends wish me a happy Valentine's Day. The day is all about love, which I'm all for, as it is sometimes a weary world we live in. I like all the Valentine decor you have shared here, and I smiled at the plaque, "hello my love." I say that to my kids all the time. The crackers and cheese plate in the shape of a heart is delightful. It's so sweet that you have kept Sam's Valentines all these years. Such treasures they are. Whether or not you celebrate it big or small, you have so much love and joy in your heart that it overflows and sprinkles unto all the people around you.

  2. Do you decorate for Valentines Day? Yes but it's fairly low key. I spent 30 years working with little ones - infants toddlers and twos so decorating for those monthly holidays in still in my DNA with Valentines Day one of them.
Do you celebrate by giving to friends, your love, your family...OR all three? Just my husband and I. My single adult children detest Valentines day. I can understand why. I remember as a single mom for years, I felt a little left out but always made a big deal for my three little boys and I always gifted myself some flowers!
Do you prefer to have dinner out or make a valentines day dinner at home. No, we don't go out for dinner - we go out for our anniversary instead, 2 days later.
I do enjoy all the pretty reds and pinks - colors I don't use in my home. I usually start putting Valentine decor out by the end of Jan.

    Thanks, Shug. This was fun.

  3. I don't decorate for Valentine's day. Hubby usually brings flowers home and that's enough for me. I enjoy a nice meal out, but either the day before or the day after, which avoids the crowds.

  4. I do have a box of Valentine's decor, but I mainly just do a tad on the foyer table and make a valentine centerpiece for the dining room table.
We go out for our Valentine dinner either the 13th or the 15th to avoid the jacked up Valentine's Day prices. We exchange cards, but that is all.

  5. I love that you've saved all those cards!
I'm not one to decorate for Valentines. We usually just get supper out. Our middle daughter was born on Valentines day so it's always been more about celebrating her birthday.

  6. My son David will be 61 on Valentines Day, they got married on Valentines day. The do the celebration thing. As for Bob and I, we don't do holidays, not gifts, cards, no decorations. that was an easy. ha ha ha. My other son, Dan will be 59 on Feb 22nd, George Washingtons birthday.. he is like me. He sent me a text and said Today is our 38th or maybe 39th anniversary. we can't remember what date it was... the apple did not fall far from the mother tree.... I am my Dad. when My parents were alive and I lived in the same town, I would buy a valentine, and take it to Daddy and say sign this and give it to mother tomorrow. Since the house was overly decorated for Valentine's day, I knew the two of us should make her happy...

  7. I think it's the most romantic thing that you have saved every Valentine's Day card that Sam has ever given to you, Shug. I've done the same with Danny's! No, I don't decorate, but we will usually go someplace nice for lunch, exchange cards and he usually buys me flowers. I always look forward to that. Blessings and prayers!

  8. I have never decorated for St Valentine. In my view, it's yet another over-commercialised occasion, when the cost of anything even remotely 'romantic' is over-priced. It should be sweet and simple, but it's not. It's very hard on those who feel they 'should' observe it but haven't enough ready cash to do so. Bah! Humbug!

  9. Since our 62nd anniversary comes this January 31, that's where our energies go.
We will go out for a nice lunch (cheaper) and exchange cards. At this time in our lives we really don't need anything material.
I'm just thankful we are still above ground.
There will be some mention of Valentines Day and maybe I will put out a few hearts and flowers. Prices get jacked up so high for the occasion that we don't want to spend it. We'll see what I come up with as the time gets closer.
    Great questions Shug.
Prayers continuing for you and Sam.

  10. First, I love all of these images! I am always trying to look at charcuterie boards and copy them. I have an entire big plastic keeper full of cute Valentine's day things! But do not have the energy to decorate for it this year. It seems so fleeting! Not like fall or Christmas where you can leave decor out for a couple months. I did find a cute fake marble heart plate at Wal-Mart and have put it out with some of those awful chalk hearts in it. No, we don't celebrate it. After being married for almost 60 years, it is enough for me that we are still together. What are your plans? I hope you can both go out for a nice meal.

  11. We don't celebrate Valentine's Day -- I do celebrate my everyday life. ❤️

  12. My husbands birthday is the 15th so we usually roll the two days together! I saved cards for years but finally got rid of them.

  13. Here in my second marriage (after widowhood), my husband isn't much into froo-froo, so I tone things down a lot from my former self. We are approaching our 5th Valentine's Day together. We exchanged cards (which I treasure) and may go out but since restaurant meals often are more costly for this special occasion, we are more likely to grill something at home. After my children reached the teen years and older, they did not appreciate Valentines from Mom and Dad. My mother likes getting them, but she has passed on. I do like then p pictures you posted here for Valentine's.

  14. Is it Valentine's already? We only celebrated the New Year a few days ago. 2026 is going faster than I thought. What day is it today? It is Tuesday here in the UK but Wednesday in Australia.
    God bless, Shug.

  15. My favorite memories of Valentine's Day are the ones when the kids were little. We would make a special dinner and I would make cute desserts and we would sit at the dinner table with our boys and just enjoy being a family that loved one another. Those were the best times.

  16. I used to go all out with decorating, etc. for Valentines Day, but not so much anymore. I try making my husband's favorite meal and we normally spend the evening in.

  17. No decor for VD. I am just getting Christmas cleaned up and on to painting/cleaning.

  18. I have a few Valentines decorations that I put out but nothing much. Being single I really don't do anything for Valentines day. When my husband was still alive I would make him something like a candy bouquet made up of his favorites.

  19. I don't decorate for Valentine's Day. I am more like you. I wouldn't mind going out to eat. And of course, I always get the kids something!

  20. Honest-injun, Valentines is one of my least favorite "holidays." (The anniversary of my divorce ... shhhhh!)
I love these vintage 'raggedy' hearts you've featured and the brie charcuterie board, however. I hope you and Sam will plan for a discover a wonderfully-romantic spot at which to dine!

  21. Valentines day is a JV league holiday, not worth more than those little candy hearts.

  22. I used to be a "love it" type for Valentine's Day but not for many years. It's definitely a "leave it" day for me now. :-) Love ya, Andrea xoxo

A sky and rock reflection

Although we have turned the calendar to the year of 2026, I wanted to share this post that I wrote a few days after Christmas. It is about...
