A Hodgepodge of Thanks

What day is it?  It's Wednesday...Hodgepodge Day!

Joyce asks the Questions

We Answer the Questions

Here

🍁🦃🍁🦃🍁

1. Do you feel like you have a 'full plate' at the moment? In what way?

OH yes...my plate is very full right now!  Not only in caring for Sam and his medical needs, but in doing all of the things that I like to do this time of the year.  I'm busy with the details of updating Sam's parents home, I'm busy planning a Christmas gathering for my side of the family...I'm decorating my own home for the Holiday season...and it is Basketball season for our granddaughter...I try to make every game possible.  Full plate is an understatement for me, but the only thing I would change is if Sam could be well and NO doctor's visits.

2. How did you learn to cook? If you have children did you teach or encourage them to cook? Do you like to follow a recipe or is your cooking style more 'let's wing it'.

My mom taught me how to cook.  I actually cooked a lot when I was at home many years ago.  I tried to have dinner done for our family, as at that time both of my parents worked outside of the home.

I do not usually follow a recipe.  For most things, I just make them from scratch and I may add a little this or a little that from time to time to any given dish.

3. Last time you bit off more than you could chew? Elaborate.

I do this very often...I bite off more than I can chew.  It's just who I am!  I like to help in any way that I can and the word "NO" usually does not exist when others ask me to do things.  But...I am also good at making things work out.  I may have to make a few adjustments, but things usually work at well.

4. When did you last say 'the more the merrier' and mean it?

Our home has what I call "revolving doors" and everyone knows it.  When our daughters were growing up, their friends were always in our home and this is the way we preferred for it to be.  So... the statement "the more the merrier" has always been an open statement around here.

5. Write an acrostic using the word T-H-A-N-K-S.

reasure the little moments that make life sweet. ❤

old close the people who lift your spirit 🍁

ppreciate the goodness woven into every day. 🦃

urture kindness where you go. 💫

eep gratitude at the center of your heart. 🍂

hare your joy so it multiplies in others.  💛

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My random thought:  Why does my Southern Cornbread Dressing never come out as good as my MOM's was?  Her's was always the Best and even though I make mine just exactly the way she did, it never has the delicious taste that I remember and want.  I'll just keep trying, but I don't ever expect it to taste as good as what my mom's dressing tasted like.

Enjoy your Blessings of this Day!!

Shug.

  1. I'm sorry for your husband's health issues and pray the treatment plan works well for him. Cornbread dressing is my favorite thing on the menu this time of year. It's funny how everyone is very particular about their dressing. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

    1. Thank you Joyce for your prayers. I was reading something yesterday about how everyone thinks their Moms dressing is the best ever.. How True this is.

  2. I think the answer to your last question is, ingredients tasted better back then, not the same as now. also she may have used bacon grease, lard, crisco, none of which I cook with and my mother used it in every dish. we never had a veggie from daddy's garden that did not get cooked with bacon grease in it. she taught me to cook the few things I know how to cook, mostly make do with what you got and no recipes. I have never cooked a recipe that it tasted fit to eat. I can't seem to follow them

  3. You really are busy right now. I hope tomorrow you get a chance to just sit for awhile and enjoy your beautiful family.
I think Mad Snapper is right about food but I also think our taste buds change. There are things I made myself when our kids were younger that I just loved, but they don't taste the same to me now.

About the stuffing. Our ingredients are GMO these days? Things taste different when we are older? Add salt? 😀 These are just my guesses!

  5. We do not have cornbread stuffing here in my part of Wisconsin. I am fascinated how we can all have different dishes we enjoy and grew up eating in our part of the USA. :-)
Continuing to pray for your Sam and you!
