Welcome October... and the Wednesday Hodgepodge:
Welcome October! ๐
You arrive with a gentle whisper of cooler air, golden leaves, and the promise of change......
Hello Friends.....today is Wednesday and you guessed it....this means it is time for the Hodgepodge!!
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions. ๐
1. What's your favorite fall scent? Would we find this in or around your home right now?
My favorite fall scent is Cinnamon Stick...
and this particular scent is flowing through our home right now!! I actually have a bag full of plug in's and they are delivering their scent throughout the house!!
2. October is Country Music Month....are you a fan of Country Music? Do you have a favorite country artist? Every been to Nashville? In terms of lifestyle are you more country mouse or city mouse?
I am a huge fan of Country Music...however, I am very selective on the songs that I listen to... I am really turned off by the songs that are all about whiskey and drinking...(I know, you find this in SOOOO Many of the Country songs) I prefer Christian Country Music!
Cody Johnson is my favorite right now!! I would love to see him in concert. I do like the older artist as well.
I have been to Nashville...I've even been to the Grand Ole' Opry! Love Nashville.
I am most definitely a Country Mouse! Visiting the busy Cities can be nice, but my heart lives in the Country!
3. How about 'Country cooking'? (loosely defined as rich flavors, familiar foods, large portions, often fried, and often associated with the Southern region of the US of A)?
chicken and dumplings-fried chicken-shrimp and grits-biscuits and gravy-mac and cheese-fried green tomatoes-cornbread-collard or turnip greens-deviled eggs-'barbecue'-gumbo-banana pudding
Which of these foods listed is your favorite? Any on the list you haven't tried or would say a firm no thank you to if offered?
Goodness...my favorite is ALL OF THIS LIST!
Southern indeed.... we rarely eat Fried foods!
Although, I have had my fair share of fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, and chicken fried steak.
I would not turn down any of these dishes if placed in front of me!! But I would add a tall glass of iced sweet tea.
4. What's something that always has a positive impact on your mood?
No doubt, antiquing is one thing that always refreshes my soul. Another positive impact for me is decorating!! I love to decorate our home, our yard, or any place I can find that I can add a tad of color or a simple change....
5. As we say so long to September, share a noun, a verb, and adjective that tells us something about how that month looked for you.
Whirlwind.....
September was a whirlwind...It was jam-packed, lively, noisy, cheerful, dizzying, surprising, delightful, wobbly and downright unforgettable.
Between weddings, showers, birthday parties, and even a few sniffles tossed in for good measure, it felt like the month was running on double speed. If months could talk, September would have shouted.....
"Buckle up...here we go!" ๐
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Today , October 1st, would have been my parents 77th wedding Anniversary.
I am so very thankful for the strong love that they shared.
Even beyond this life,
their love whispers softly,
a story that time cannot silence,
A bond that will never fade.
Wishing you all a very blessed day.
Shug...

Hi Shug, you will not believe this, but I do not like southern sweet tea ... hee hee, it is too sweet for me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!
Love, Carla
Happy October 1, Shug. Enjoyed your answers! You write good poems.
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute to September.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed that. I love the country too and country food. Cinnamon is my favorite too. Whirlwind is a great word for September, but I LOVE October. Happy anniversary to your parents.
ReplyDeleteI loved your answers to each of the questions. I enjoy the scent of cinnamon as we. You have had a busy month. Maybe October will be a bit calmer.
ReplyDeleteHappy October!
ReplyDeleteHappy October! That's a really nice pic and memory of your parents.
ReplyDeleteI love cinnamon too, perfect Fall scent.
I've been to Nashville, our son lives near it.
I agree with you on country music. I'll have to check out Cody Johnson.
I love October, but it comes and goes too fast for me!
ReplyDeletetoday is Bob's 89th birthday. it has been really crazy, thus no post at all. the past 6 months have been a combo of tornado/hurricane for us. my sister in law and daughter in law have Oct 3, daddy was Oct 21 and all those food you listed are how I was raised, except no gumbo
ReplyDeleteI do like country music, Shug, but my favorites are the ones with a Christian message, too. I'd say that your September has been a whirlwind, indeed. It was non-stop from start to finish, in great and not-so-great ways. I loved the photo of your parents, too. Here's hoping that October will be a little less hectic. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteYour list of foods sounds delicious. I agree about country music. You look so much like your Mom! I always look forward to any of your decorations! And sometimes have to copy them!
ReplyDeleteRight back attcha Shug. I love the feel of Fall too, though we haven't gotten much of it so far.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, I really love most of those country, southern foods and perhaps a bit too much!!
I loved my 1 time visit to Nashville a few years ago. Fun times with a dear friend and a chance to go to several concerts with the singer Sandi Patti. Wonderful memories.
My word for September is hard ... but the blessings that have come out of it have made it ok. I may share some of it for Thankful Thursday tomorrow.
Sue
Love this and all the cozy from the food to the music. :) October is such a beautiful month and I'm so ready for all the cozy it will bring. Happy heavenly anniversary to your Folks! ๐๐งก
ReplyDeleteI'm a cinnamon loving country mouse, too! Happy October to you!
ReplyDeleteI'm a country mouse too! One reason I married Andy was I knew he would never want to live in a city. I hope Sam's dad is doing all right. I'm still praying for him. Much love.
ReplyDelete"Buckle up, here we go!" ... I love that so much! Oh, I think my toes curled at the mention of chicken fried steak. That's been one of my favorites since college, when someone finally told me, it's not really chicken. (lol)
ReplyDeleteBring on the cinnamon!
I think I like just about anything country. My daughter is a huge fan of sweet tea but it's just a little too sweet for me.
ReplyDeleteWow, would have been 77 years. I also love the smell of cinnamon. Made Cinnamon Ghost Bread today. Those cinnamon ghosties were so stinkin' cute. Happy October!!!!!
ReplyDeleteCinnamon is my favorite too. I like sweet tea, but it can often be too sweet for me. I usually ask for half and half, or half tea and half lemonade. My son-in-law's grandparents have been married for 73 years this year. What an amazing thing! They're still so cute. Have a nice week!
ReplyDeleteDear Shug, I absolutely love the photo of your parents. I love Autumn...and October! I love the fresh, crisp air, the colours of the leaves, the comfortable breezes, and yes, even the rain. I love the harvest of root vegetables (our harvest here in Canada is in October, which is why we have our Thanksgiving in October...and why the U.S. has it in November, as their harvest is later).
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this beautiful and heartwarming post, dear friend. God bless you!
My parents were married in October also, it will be 75 years ago on October 7. Nice hodgepodge…I like old rock and roll music…I don’t know many country singers now a days…Reba and Carrie. I am so glad to have September behind us.
ReplyDeleteShug, it sounds like you need October, to recover from September! hahaha :) I love all the food in the south except seafood and crawfish. Sweet tea is a must with every meal. It's how we were raised. And country music is a big yes, but only if we're talking classic artists, such as Reba, George (both of them), Alan Jackson, Loretta, etc. The new country is junk, with the exception of Carrie Underwood, Cody Johnson, and a few others who sing heartfelt songs that aren't totally trashy. I love John Foster, who came from American Idol. We've been to the Opry several times and love Nashville. October is my birthday month, so I'm happy it's here. Love the picture of your parents :)
