Sunday afternoon Recap

Sunday afternoon, I decided to take a good 0ld-fashioned country drive. I would have loved to have been able to roll the windows down to allow the air to flow through my car, but it was just a little too warm outside to do this.  I was on a mission!! Surely somewhere out there the leaves were starting to change.  Spoiler Alert: they were not!! Every tree I passed was still as green as it was back in July, just a little more tired looking.

What I did see, though, was an endless parade of "ragweed."  Some people like to dress it up and call it "goldenrod," but what I really refer to it as is a "Public Enemy!"  This one single plant that grows so wild around here, is the reason so many people are sneezing and coughing right now....including me!  This is Pollen season and the ragweed is running the show around here right now.  The heads are just now filling out, which tells me there will be many more weeks of "Ahh-chooing and snorting, sniffling and eye watering waterfalls.

I did see a couple of pumpkins perched proudly on a fence.....looking like the only real hint of fall. This was a high fence, so it kinda looked like the pumpkins were being Fall  cheerleaders, silently shouting...."hang on y'all, cooler weather is coming....EVENTUALLY."

My little country drive was very nice, even if I may have talked to myself once or twice...lol. Sometimes a solo country drive is just the therapy a person needs.

And now here we are ..... Monday morning.  Our forecast says temps will stay in the 90's all week long.  Ninety degrees!  This means more watering of my pot plants outside and it also means my air conditioner will continue running.  I will also be sipping more iced tea while many of you will be pulling out your hot cocoa cups.

Not a bad view for a gorgeous Monday morning....These "Turks Caps" have really been showing off the past couple of weeks and the hummingbirds are enjoying this sweet snack as they travel south.

No matter how you start your day...know that you are loved...

Shug!

  1. Oh I love that little country road and getting out to take a drive really can lift your spirit. Well after a very warm week in the high 90’s, we’ve cooled down to the 70’s and we have a 95% chance if rain today. I am beside myself with anticipation. Looks rather cool for the rest of the week. Our winter rainy season pattern just might be set.

Love the little pumpkins on that wall and your backyard photo of those pretty red flowers are so pretty.

I hope everything works out with Sam’s dad and with the administration meeting this morning. 🙏🏻. Have a beautiful day, Shug walking with our Lord.

  2. I would love to drive or even wander on foot down that road, but not in HEAT. we too are still in the 90's.. mornings are nicer. I just put bob out on the deck in the sun, at 10:30, he lasted about 10 minutes. I told him he needed a few minutes of sunshine and air, he said I will do it this afternoon. that is his answer when he doesn't want to do something. I said you can sit in the sun in the sahara desert which is what the deck is mid afternoon until bed time. love the red flower VIEW...

  3. Our temps are cooling down a little bit and we are only in the mid-high 80's. I will take it!
I am not sure we will be getting any real fall colors. I think we will just be going from green to falling dried brown leaves. The redbud tree out if my kitchen window is usually the first tree to turn and nothing is changing color, but the leaves are dropping.

  4. It was only 54 degrees here this morning but it's supposed to be in the mid 80's this afternoon. We are having leaves falling here though and it's looking a bit like Fall. We're supposed to have a poor color season this year because it's been so dry.

  5. Hello, my lovely friend. I love your blog all decorated for fall, and I will send some cooler weather to you straight away! You know, it has been a long time since I went on a drive alone. What a great reminder! Thank you for that. There is something about being alone with the road, your thoughts, and some good music! Have a cozy afternoon, and know how much I enjoy your blog.

  6. A solo drive along pretty country roads can be very refreshing,. You don't have to talk unitless you want to and any conversation can run exactly as you wish.

  8. A pretty drive, even if it was hot and not as colorful as you thought it might be. ;-)
Our leaves are slowly turning here... we are warm here too 20 degrees above the normal temperatures for our September.

  9. Sometimes a drive in the country to clear our heads is just what the doctor ordered, Shug. Sorry about your battle with the ragweed, though. So many folks suffer from fall allergies even more than in the spring. Take good care of yourself!

  10. Do you get snow there, Shug? I love the fall photos. Pumpkins, especially!

  11. I always feel the Love when I visit your blog.
Thanks for the get away drive. Sometimes a change of pace is just what the doctor ordered.
We are only in the low 70'sF today. I actually put a light blanket on last night. The temps will go back up next week but I am enjoying the AC not being on and just breathing cooler air. Sorry about the Ragweed explosion. We so need a good rain to wash the pollen out of our air. Its the beginning of AhChoo season here too.
    Love your Fall photos.

    1. Oh Shug, I don't know how I missed your previous post about your FIL.
I am so sorry and pray that the meeting today got some GOOD answers for him and for your all as a family.
Care facilities sure are their own special breed.
Praying your thyroid issues will get cleared up.

  12. he Turk's Caps are beautiful! I don't think I have ever seen a real one. most of the trees here are still green as well. But oh my, NINETY?! I love your first photo of the path!

  13. I have never heard of Turks' caps, but they look very pretty.
No fall colors yet in my neck of the woods either.
And I just learned something new. I never knew that ragweed and the beautiful goldenrod were one and the same.

  14. I like those Turk's caps! I always enjoy a drive in the country, even if I can't roll down the windows! lol We have leaves falling here, but little color. It has been too dry.

  15. I remember long ago finding solace in solo drives. Yours is such a lovely route, and I love that stone wall! I'm looking forward to seeing what YOU see in another month or so.

  17. You know - I don't think I have ever taken a country drive by myself - I don't think it works here. I am right with you with that darn ragweed - it has my asthma flaring a bit. No fall yet either. We are still in the 80's - I am so ready for fall. Glad you got your head cleared out a bit.

  18. We have a little color around here but still not a whole lot. I've always said that the goldenrod is a sure sign that fall is here or right around the corner

  19. What a nice country drive you went on Shug. And even though you didn't see any Fall color, you did see those sweet little pumpkins on the fence. That's a charming picture, by the way. The Turks Caps are so pretty, and I didn't know the hummers enjoy them. I always miss those hummers during the cold winter months. That first picture of the country road reminded me of the drives I used to take from my hometown to a little town out in the country. It's nice once in a while to get out by ourselves and drive and listen to music and just be close to nature. That's wonderful that you were able to do that. Well, I hear rain on my rooftop, so I have to check it out! Have a blessed week, Shug.
