I woke up this morning thinking...Ahhh, first day of September has arrived. WOW...I feel like I'm opening a brand new notebook, and all of the pages are just waiting for me to write some pretty awesome stories.. Today is a great day to start!
Did you know (I didn't until I heard someone talking about it yesterday) that September is the only month that can start on the same day of the week as December every year? So, I suppose this could mean that September is kinda like December's warm-up act. How about that?
Yesterday, Sam and I were contemplating putting the cover on the pool. I'm not quiet ready, but he is. We have huge trees behind the pool and when the leaves begin to drop, it can sure make a mess in the pool. With this being said, ..........
If you think about it, September feels like a hallway with two doors. One is still open to late Summer swims and us still eating watermelon slices, and the other door is cracked just enough for us to let the scent of pumpkin spice fill the air. It's decision time!! Let Summer end and Fall begin? OR...continue with Summer for a few more weeks?
I love that little "R" that is tucked into the last four months of the year. Funny how the "R" gives us permission to slow down and hit the reset button of life. Fun days are ahead as we decorate our homes and our porches and we begin to pull out those favorite soup recipes!
I like to thing that the "R" just might stand for REWARDS....as in it's okay to reward yourself with an extra slice of apple pie. YUM! It's okay to reward yourself with a fun journal or it's totally okay to add a little extra cream to that pumpkin spice Latte'. YUM again!
I think I just made myself even more excited...how about y'all? Happy Labor Day!!
Shug..
I never knew that little fact about September and December either.
ReplyDeleteI'm hanging on to a few more weeks of Summer, although we're supposed to get a cold spell starting Thursday. I'm not a fan of cold!
I do like the thought of soups and chili though!
Good Morning Shug! September is such a pleasant month, isn't it? I can totally understand how you would want to keep the pool open for a week or two, as it is still warm in September. There is already a nip in the air early mornings now. Everything out there in the stores is Fall! And there's already pumpkin goodies out too. I'm glad to be home, and it was nice to open up the blog world and see your delightful post this morning. Happy September Shug!

My favorite month! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, we are still in the hot-s of summer. Today it will be 104F by 5pm. The AC is still getting a workout. I am looking forward to fall though.Things are just so pretty but I dislike raking all the leaves.
ReplyDeleteLast night at dusk a huge bird, I think it was a hawk, Dave thinks it was an owl flew in under our patio overhang and slammed into our patio slider. Bamm, It happened so fast we both sat dumb-founded. It fluttered in air for a minute and then flew up over the neighbor's fence. We had our house lights on ad the overhead ceiling fan was on. Wonder if it looked like a floundering critter in the reflection of the window...
It was huge and we rarely see hawks up close in our yard. And so, the critter bonanza continues.
Have a great Labor Day.

ReplyDeleteSeptember paints the skies with flame,
Soft twilight whispers autumn’s name.
The air turns crisp, the days grow wise,
As golden thoughts like leaves arise.
the Sept/Dec thing makes sense because it fits with what i think. I have always said there are so very many people born in Sept because it is 9 months after Dec, get it?
ReplyDeleteYou are totally right about September!!!
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to the 'ber' months. I don't like heat. So, did you decide to put the cover on the pool or not? Does Sam still need a liver transplant or is that to be decided yet?
ReplyDeleteI love the thought about the hallway with doors. (It reminds me a little of Robert Frost's "Road Not Taken.") Oh, that little "R"! I'll never look at a calendar in quite the same way again. Here's to Rewards!
ReplyDeleteI'm quite ready for fall to begin. We've had enough summer here in Florida. What we really need is rain, but I don't want it to come with a big price tag, like a hurricane. So I am careful what I ask for and count my blessings. However, our pond is so dry, and that will greatly diminish the wildlife/bird activity throughout the fall and winter if there is no water there...so...I pray that God will do exactly what needs to be done (within reason...and He is always reasonable, so why should I worry?). Oh, I rewarded myself last night with a chocolate soda! It was refreshing and good.
ReplyDeleteYes, these R (ber) months are so wonderful! My favorite time of year.
I hope you get to swim a few more times, but I do understand the dilemma. Once those leaves start falling it's too late , so maybe it's better to get ahead of the game. I'm sure you'll do the right thing. Just embrace and enjoy whatever each day brings! God is with you. Amen.
Finding delight in every day, in every month is a gift.
ReplyDeleteThe week after Labor Day week is always our local fair. To me that's the official start of fall. That's the week I say goodbye to summer and start my fall decorating. That's my reward.
ReplyDeleteNothing happy about the labor market...mostly gig, part time, temporary and no benefits. Thanks to AI and H1B visa holders, employment is in the basement.
ReplyDeleteYes, hanging on to all the little vestiges of summer! The "closing of the pool issue" is one my parents grappled with all those years ago too, as well as our oldest doing it now. Fallon has a tendency to haaaaaaang on to that open pool as long as she can. She has a real hard time saying goodbye to summer. :-) Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteDecisions, decisions! I'm curious to see how Sam and you will say good-bye to summer and welcome fall in the month of September, Shug. And I'd never realized that fact about the month itself that you started off your post with. So interesting! Blessings!
