Our Youngest Grandchild is a Senior!!
It's official, Mylee Jo has stepped into her Senior year! How in the world did this happen so fast? I blinked, and here we are.
Most of you probably already know she attends a private Christian prep school, and let me just say, they know how to kick off a school year with spirit and purpose.
School technically started last Wednesday, but I say the REAL beginning is today. Those first few days were more like a pep rally, orientation and reunion rolled into one big celebration.
Wednesday began with chapel, followed by a general assembly that was much like a convocation. Faith and fellowship set the tone... Happy? I am thrilled..... knowing her year as well as that of all the students and staff began with a focus on the Lord.
Then came Tuesday.....Team Day!
On the first day, students are given a group (not classes.. this is just what they call home groups...a bonding group per say, for the year) These groups compete in challenges throughout the year, building friendships and a sense of community that extends beyond classrooms and textbooks. Each group has it's own color.....Yellow, Blue, Green, Red and Purple. Our Mylee is proudly team red and you would better believe that she dressed the part!!
By Friday, things had kicked into high gear with Orange Day.....one of the official school colors. Picture the entire school decked out, head to toe in orange. The day is filled with activities, games, and school spirit flowing through the halls like a giant pep rally. It's not just about fun, it's about starting the year united, energized and excited for what is ahead. A lot of bonding time!!
I'm guessing you can't find Mylee is the above picture?
If you guessed the one with the orange arrow above her head, then you guessed right.
This morning, the books finally open, and classes begin for real. But I think it's beautiful that the school carved out those first days just for connection. A great way to welcome new students and a great way to connect after a summer break. Just a sweet reminder that everyone belongs and that school isn't just about academics. It's also about spirit, character and faith.
So, here we are, watching our "Baby" step into her last year of High School. My heart is full. Senior year is such a milestone and it includes late night study sessions, football games, senior pictures, senior sunrise, senior brunch and sooo much more. It will be full of the "last" things that they do in High School.
Time really does fly by, doesn't it? One day you're tying their shoes and watching them perform in their very first kindergarten school play....snaggle tooth and all. Next you're watching them drive off in their first car after getting their Drivers License.
I am so very excited to hear about the stories of what this year brings and to learn about all the victories that comes Mylee's way this year. I pray that her senior year will be filled with growth, lots of laughter, lifelong memories, and God's guidance in every decision she makes. May her "Team RED" spirit shine as brightly as her future.

How fun is all this goodness! Loved it.
ReplyDeleteI will be praying for you and Sam today as you go back to Dallas and get the news. xx
What a great way to start the year! I loved all the pictures.
ReplyDeletePraying for you and Sam today!
Much luck to Mylee Jo as she starts her senior year of high school. Oh how fun, all the festivities! Your pictures are absolutely precious, Shug! How proud you must be. Love, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteThat certainly is an inspiring way to start a new school year.
ReplyDeleteMore schools should start in this fashion. It also relieves a lot of the first week, back-to-school jitters many students have. It’s a great idea. I pray Mylee has a memorable freshman year.
ReplyDeleteMylee Jo -- good luck and best wishes - have a great senior year. Gee I remember a lot of this from Andy - he went to a Christian prep school too. We all were so blessed to be able to do that. She is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI pray great results for Sam today!

Wishing sweet Mylee and her classmates the most wonderful senior year they could possibly have! I think the way the school started back is a brilliant concept and especially reassuring to any student who is new to the school. I'm sure everyone now feels at home and ready to embark on learning. Keep us posted about Sam, too. Blessings, Shug!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, praying for Sam and you as you learn about the tests.
ReplyDeleteNow, what a way to begin that senior year. I really like that it is Faith based and that there is a team spirit developed. Mylee will have a fabulous year and prep for what lays ahead for her.

What a fun first week of school for Mylee. Lots of activities to get them started and ready to go before they have to tackle their studies. She looks so cute in her red wig, and she has such a sweet smile. I love the outfits on "Orange" day. Such a happy color. I hope Mylee's Senior year is a great one. It was one of my favorite years. So much going on, and many wonderful school activities to look forward to.
