Our Monday...

We spent a portion of our Memorial Day with family, which always makes any day feel extra special. Sam and I went over to our daughter and Son-in-Law's (Shanda and Tom) home for lunch. On the menu?  Good ol' hamburgers with all the fixings, and for dessert, strawberry shortcake that really hit the spot.  Sam had one of his favorite fruit drinks.

After lunch, we made our way into town for a quick stop at Best Buy. Gotta love those Memorial Day sales!!  We picked up a soundbar for the TV, and I'm hoping it really helps boost the sound for Sam to be able to hear the words being spoken, much more clearer.

Coming out of Best Buy we saw one of our oldest daughter's (Trista) high school friends. It was great to see and visit with Michelle.  When the girls were in High School, Michelle was at our house all the time. After they graduated, the girls went their separate ways with Michelle getting married and moving away.

Michelle, her youngest daughter and her husband Jason.

As we were ending our parking lot visit, Michelle said to Sam and I, in all sincerity in her voice, "I am so thankful that you both were part of my life. She said that every time she visited our home, it wasn't just a place to stay, it was a place where she felt love and comfort. She said, she always noticed the little things like how we gathered around the table and spent time listening.....how we always showed up for each other and that she wanted us to know that these were seeds planted in her heart." She continued, "Now that I am a mother to my own two daughters, I often look back at all those long visits at your home. I draw from what I saw in the way you raised Trista and Shanda. She said she tries to give her girls the same foundation......love without conditions, and the assurance that she and her husband will always be there for their family. You didn't just welcome me, you showed me what the good things in life are really like."

Her words touched a tender spot in both mine and Sam's hearts. What really meant the most is that she thanked us for not making her feel like she was a guest, but truly part of us. Her gratitude felt so good and it reminded me that the love we have always tried to give never stops at our front door. It does ripple out and sometimes in ways that we never expect.

After our stop at Best Buy, dinner found us at Olive Garden. For some reason, spaghetti doesn't bother Sam's stomach like other foods do. This is a big mystery for me because I would think that it might be too spicy.....BUT, it's not!  It's the little things, right?

The weather, however, had a good bit of drama going on. Storms rolled through yesterday morning, cleared up just long enough for us to enjoy the afternoon, and then came barreling back in last evening. Thunder, lightning.....the whole show is what we got. ☔

There is so much goodness in the rain. It slows us down and it nourishes the ground beneath our feet. LOL...it also feels like nature's lullaby as it softly falls.  I could easily do without the lightning, but truthfully, the lightning is beneficial to plants. It helps provide nitrogen to our grass, trees and plants.

I am thankful for yesterday.....

Family, Good food, safety, long time friendships, and the rain!

Hugs and love to each of you...

Shug....💗

  1. What a very special time when meeting with Michelle in the parking lot at Best Buy. I have no doubt but everything she said caused your heart to soar, as well as I know you accepted it with humbleness of heart. What a blessing. It sounds as though Sam may have had another good day yesterday. I'm so glad.

  2. Hello, I love what you shared here about the young lady. We too had several of our boys friends come to our home. We treated them as our own boys. We are blessed to be friends with them yet today.

  3. Each time I visit your blog I am so touched by your life and how to write about it. You are indeed blessed. I love your statement that Love never stops at the front door.
I think that's Dave's and my motto too. You brought back memories of when our 2 boys were teens. They had a friend that lived in a very disfunctional family. He liked to be with us and called us Mr. and Mrs Clever (Leave it to Beaver) He thought we were "perfect" like the tv mom and dad...Of course we were not...we did show him lots of love , patience and sometimes advice which was there for the asking. He has gone on to marrying a wonderful woman and they have a son who is flourishing in a Christian atmosphere. I thank the Lord that we had a small part in his growth.
Thanks for bringing this back to my memories.
I'm so glad you had a good day and that Sam could have an enjoyable meal too.

  4. Wow, what a wonderful visit with your daughter's friend (and your friend too). I love what she shared with you, and it really touches my heart to hear that. Your home sounds like the kind of home I always wanted to have, and maybe we did do that, but we had to move too often to really form long lasting relationships like that. What a blessing for Michelle and for you. And it sounds like you had a wonderful kind of day yesterday! Even with the rain and thunder and lightning! We are waiting for that rain to reach our shores over here on the other side of the Gulf of America! They keep saying it's coming, and then it veers off another direction and misses us. We need it SO badly. (but not the lightning) Have a blessed rest of your week. I enjoyed this visit so much.

  5. I was reminded of the phrase, "little ears are listening, little eyes are watching", when I read about Michelle. It is so important, that as the adults, show and speak love. What a blessing ya'll have been to this young lady and, no doubt, countless more.

    Grace and Peace,
    Pam

  8. Ahhhhhhhh your Monday shounds like it was great. I especially liked hearing about you running into your daughters high school friend. The story called out to me. When my daughter was young, her best friends parents were together, apart, together, going through a nasty divorce. She basically lived with us. Most night we had already had dinner and often I helped her with her homework before whichever parent was going to be around came to collect her. She had an assignment years later for an English class to write about someone important in your life and she wrote about me. I hadn't thought of that in sometime. Thank you for bringing the memory alive again for me. She and I still visit on facebook some, but like your daughter the girls grew apart with very different lives. That always made me a bit sad. My daughter lives out in St. Louis where she went to school years ago, and Steph, the girl across the street stayed here in town, is married with 2 children. A lovely share.

  9. Sounds like the perfect day - strawberry shortcake and then Olive Garden! But the best was hearing what a difference you made in Michelle's life. So wonderful!

  10. That strawberry shortcake was the best looking one I have ever seen. She obviously takes after her mother.
What a compliment and God Wink you got from Michelle. That was wonderful!!!

  12. What a wonderful blessing this meeting was!! and right at a time when you needed it. SOUND BAR for the T.V? Tell me everything! We have to turn closed captioning on for Phil, but not all shows have it. He cannot hear too much of what they are saying. He is partially deaf, not really bad though. So how could this help??

  13. Thanks for your visit. I like your story about meeting the young woman who was a frequent visitor to your home. As we live our lives, we don't know who notices and how our actions effect others. The ripple effect can be amazing. Have a wonderful evening and thanks once again for your visit and comment.

  20. It sounds like a wonderful day. That was so sweet of Michelle. Nice to know that you made a difference in her life.
I hope the soundbar works for Sam. I used to use cordless headphones to watch tv. It was the only way I could hear what people were saying and I didn't have to have the tv turned up so that it was bothering my husband. Now that I live alone I can have the tv as loud as I want

  22. aahh, those were special words that Trista's high school friend said to you and Sam. How nice to run into her. It sounds like she thinks the world of you and your family. I LOVE Olive Garden! The meals are always so fresh and delicious. So glad Sam could treat himself to a plate of spaghetti. And isn't their salad the best? You're right, Shug, there is so much goodness in the rain. I do hope we get a rainfall this summer. I didn't know that about the lightning. ; )
