Have you seen the Troll?

Have any of you seen this Troll?

This is the Breckenridge Troll, as in Breckenridge Colorado.

Thomas Dambo is the Danish artist who created it.  He named this gentle giant "Isak Heartstone."

I've always said that Some of the best memories are the ones made on a whim.
This is exactly what happened this past weekend..
Our daughter flew into Denver recently, to meet up with her husband, who is currently working out of state. It was already going to be a special weekend just to be able to spend a few days together.  Then....they made plans to connect with our oldest grandson (their oldest son) and his sweet little family who live in Colorado.
Just like that, Memorial weekend turned into a mini vacation for them all as they met in Breckenridge, Colorado.
They spent a good amount of time hiking and taking in the fresh mountain air while viewing the gorgeous scenery that Colorado offers.
One of the highlights of their trip was taking the kids to visit "Isak Heartstone" the famous Troll.

Trista, Ty, Emersyn and Keelan

"Isak Heartstone" stands 15 feet tall and is made entirely of recycled wood.
Isn't he just the cutest piece of Art??

He is tucked away in the forest along the Trollstigen Trail, and has become a true mountain landmark.
He looks a bit mysterious to me, kinda like he stepped straight out of a woodland fairytale. lol.  As you can imagine, when I saw this photo, it created a little spark of wonder for me, which means I'm now a bit intrigued.
So.....I have planned a trip in July to go see "Isak Heartstone" for myself. If all goes well, Sam will be joining me.....health permitting.....and we will be making it a family outing as well......... Trista, Shanda and Mylee are all planning to come along too.
I can't wait to take a picture in front of this curious wooden troll.

Have any of you visited "Isak Heartstone?"

Thomas Dambo has created over 100 trolls around the globe and each one is placed in a natural setting to encourage exploration and imagination.  Wouldn't it be fun to visit each of them?
Here are a few of the locations where the trolls can be found..

Boone, North Carolina ....."Rita the Rock Planter"

Hiddensee, South Carolina....."Oscar The Bird King."

Victor, Colorado......"The Troll that hatched an Egg".

They are all so cute and so unique.

Well....this it has been fun looking them all up and being able to share a few with you ..

Hope you all have a Troll-tastic kind of day!!!

  1. My first experience with Trolls was at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens and they are truly amazing. The amount of work that goes into creating one has to be phenomenal. Thanks for sharing this one with us, Shug!

  4. Oh my goodness, this post made my day. I absolutely adore Isak Heartstone what a magnificent and whimsical creation. I've actually seen photos of him pop up online before, but learning his name and the artist behind him makes him even more special. Thomas Dambo is truly a genius for crafting such enchanting giants from recycled wood.

It sounds like your daughter and her family had the most magical Memorial weekend mini-vacation! Those "whim" memories truly are the best, aren't they? Seeing your oldest grandson and his sweet little family meet up in Breckenridge, hiking and taking in the stunning Colorado scenery, then topping it all off with a visit to Isak – that's just pure joy. The photo of them with the troll is absolutely precious! Emersyn and Keelan must have been absolutely delighted. He really does look like he's stepped straight out of a fairytale!

And how exciting that you're now planning your own trip in July to go see Isak Heartstone! What a wonderful family outing that will be with Sam, Trista, Shanda, and Mylee. I can only imagine the amazing photos you'll get. That spark of wonder you mentioned is so contagious!

It's fascinating to learn that Thomas Dambo has created over 100 trolls worldwide! "Rita the Rock Planter," "Oscar The Bird King," and "The Troll that hatched an Egg" are all so unique and charming. You're right, it would be so much fun to try and visit them all. What a brilliant way to encourage exploring nature and imagination.

Thanks for sharing such a heartwarming and inspiring post. You definitely gave me a "Troll-tastic" day just reading it. Wishing you the best of luck with your July trip I can't wait to hear all about it.

  11. What a fun time with your family. Cool troll, we have a walking trail in Dungloe (a few miles from here) that has a fairy village and a huge troll sitting and guiding the fairy's village. Kids love it. Have a wonderful weekend.

  21. Yes, I've seen many of these delightful Trolls. My blog friend from Oregon has shared some of them on her posts. They are ginormous and fun. It will be nice to take a trip this summer and see some of them. Colorado is beautiful. My best friend used to live there. What a nice trip your daughter made to visit with her family for a few days. I've always LOVED Trolls, and used to play with them with a neighbor every day growing up. They just make us smile. : )
