Don't Worry Granpop!!

Mind you.....I try to be sensitive when posting,  because.... the only shoes that I have walked in, are my own shoes and I have no way of knowing what others may have experienced in their life.  I am not being judgemental.....just stating the truth as I see it here.

When I first saw the above picture.....my mind was once again taken back to the thoughts that have been playing havoc in my head for several months now.  My heart has been heavy for the elderly.  That's right....My heart breaks, just thinking of the loneliness that comes with aging.

I think about what is happening in this world today....The younger generation of people are robbing themselves of the real treasures in life.....   They fill their lives with all kinds of meaningless activities and they forget how important a simple phone call can be to an aging loved one.

I think about all the people that relentlessly search for genealogy records to learn about the history of their families.
On the other hand, there are those who have the opportunity to learn about their family history.....through grandparents or great grandparents that are still living.....YET, they fail to take the golden opportunities to sit and listen for a spell.

Busy lives seemingly deny these young people the Blessings of obtaining and understanding where they came from and what their families stood for.

The advice that I would give to every young person around today....is to slow down.....take interest in learning about your  family history (one day you will wish you had).....AND...remember that old people need you!!

I'm Just preparing for my future...I'm getting older and I certainly don't plan on being left alone!!  If Sam and I hear one of our girls cars crank...we'll be climbing in the back seat...(walkers and all)   Hoping my kiddos are reading this post. .... lol..

  2. Oh SHUG!!!! You are so right, and you are saying what has been breaking my heart for quite some time. In China, elders are respected. Your header is gorgeous, are those azeleas?

  3. Well, it's the simple truth for sure! Too many non-important things vying for our time and their time. Blessings!

  4. Amen, Shug... Family History is so important and I've been working on mine for several years.. I too didn't do enough when my parents were alive... I have my mother's info and notes--but I certainly should have taken time to ask more questions...

It's hard to see people getting old--especially when there is not much quality of life left... My sweet father-in-law is just 'existing'... I know that HE would never choose to live like this --but he's still alive and it's all in God's hands...

Sometimes I think that the medical field hasn't helped aging by allowing folks to stay alive so much longer than they used to.... I hope and pray that I don't become someone's burden when I get old.... I would not choose to live like that.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  5. Oh Shug, I am heading into the ranks of the elderly myself, and my hubby too. I think you make good points here.

  6. Amen and amen. We have all this technology to stay connected, so why does it feel like we're so disconnected? I remember the days you could just stop by someone's house. Now we worry that we're interrupting those we love with our visits and phone calls. I really do miss the old days of communication.

  7. I agree with the rest of the gals - we used to value our older people - now I am not sure what is happening!! sandie

  8. When I visit my grandmother in the nursing home, my heart aches for the people who don't have regular family visitors. We really don't value our elderly.

  9. Good post Shug - have always had a love for the elderly. And you are right - think our young ones are spending all their time running for meaningless things - they need to slow down and enjoy!

  10. I'll just put it out there right now. Getting older is scary!
No one knows what the future holds
so we move from day to day and we see how they unfold.
I try not to think about it too much and just operate in today.
I agree with you though, we all need to slow down and listen.

  11. You are right, Shug. I have a soft spot in my heart for the elderly, too.

I hope I can be as active as my dear aunt when I'm her age. She's soon to be 87 and still as active as she can be with her Red Hat's, geneology, and other activities. The recent fall and other health issues has slowed her down, but she goes as often as she can. We've got a date next week for lunch and a stop at our favorite shop. She's so much fun to visit with. I hope I'm just half as much fun and am as alert when I'm elderly, which I'm closer to being than I like to think. And, I like to think that elderly begins at age 80 or so!

Pretty header photo! And I love the statue pic, too.

  12. You go girl!!!!

I'll be right there beside ya for sure!

I totally agree that youth today are way more involved with their tech toys than the people in their lives. So sad.

God bless ya sweetie and enjoy your weekend!!! :o)
