Pockets of Love and Sparkle

My thought for the day:

"Tuck LOVE in your pocket and some hope in your heart.....and don't forget to add a little sparkle behind your smile........For we never know who might need our light today!"

When I was younger, my mother always wore an apron while she was cooking....Of course, her aprons always had big pockets and I would ofter stick my hands inside them. She would always say: "These pockets are filled with Love" and then she would smile.

I was watching a movie the other day and it was one of those sweet, small town kind, where women still wore aprons. The mom was stirring a pot of simmering apples, getting ready to make homemade pies. And...just like that, I was pulled back in time.

I couldn't help but smile, thinking about my mother and her apron pockets filled with love.

Those apron pockets held so much more than an occasional piece of candy or a clothespin. They carried a lot patience for when my siblings....I....(mostly ME) would constantly tug at her apron. They held wisdom for when she would clean her hands across the apron, and gently wipe away a tear from any of our eyes. They were lined with prayers, love and strength to make it through a hard day.

I now realize that her pockets were not just sewn into the fabric, they were sewn into her heart.  In those pockets, she found enough sparkle to share with her family, but it was her heart that delivered her LOVE.

This is a reminder for me today, that even though I don't really wear an apron with pockets each day, I can still tuck LOVE and Sparkle into my day..... to be able to share with others.

Just like my mother did.....lets all share freely, what is in our pockets, without holding back.

When we walk through the world with love in our pockets, we leave a trail of light behind us..

Happy Friday Y'all....Fill your pockets today!!

Shug.

  1. I’ve always loved aprons! I wish I could find the simple aprons my grandma and mom used to wear. They were so soft.
A simple message that rings so true. Thank you for that. I will think of what you said as I go through the day! 😘

  2. You've no idea how much this post means to me! My mother always wore an apron with big pockets, too ... what she called a "cobbler apron." She was always nagging(!) me to "put on an apron" -- while I was busy ignoring her.
Not until she passed and I rescued one for my own, have I adopted the habit. The back button's missing and several pocket seams are ripped, but I treasure it. Now, if I could only adopt your attitude!

PS - I sure enjoyed reading of your time spent with your gal pals! And here, I thought I was the only one 'grading' my restaurant experiences! (*grin*)

  3. I remember those charming aprons, Shug. My daughters were both into aprons for a time - the cute ones that were sold at the kitchen shops. A sweet memory for you about your mother's apron pockets, and what she said about them....."these pockets are filled with love." Your mom sounds like a loving woman, like you. That clothes line is delightful too. You don't see them anymore today.

    Have a blessed weekend, Shug.

  4. Such sweet memories! Your mom passed the loving nature on to you.
My mom wore an apron too. I think I should find one, just to protect my clothes when cooking, but you don't see them around much anymore.

  6. How lovely! I also love your blog background. Aprons are sadly becoming a thing of the past, so when I see them I get very excited. (I am 68, it doesn't take too much to make me happy). LOL! The first one is Gingham...this reminds me of the green Gingham tablecloth in the kitchen of the TV show The Waltons. Love this post!

  7. What a beautiful and encouraging post today Shug. Thank You.
I do have several aprons in my kitchen towel drawer, yes they are in my drawer ... do I use them? Very rarely. Mostly they are forgotten. Thanks for the memories of my Mom wearing aprons and using the pockets to hold close pin for hanging the laundry on our clothes line and my Mother in Law ALWAYS wore the cobbler type apron. It was part of her everyday wear. Clothes pins, clippers for cutting her Cecil Bruner tiny roses. a tissue or two and maybe a used envelope with a shopping list on it.. beautiful memories that I haven't thought about for a long time.

  8. You don't see many people wearing aprons these days. I sure do miss the way things were back in the good old days. But we can still share a little love and sparkle.

  9. My mother never wore an apron, but my grandmother did. Although I don't remember Nana's having pockets, her entire personality shone with love and sparkle. Thanks, Shug, for sharing this sweet memory of your mama. Blessings!

  10. I am more like Martha - my mom never wore an apron, but her mother did. My grandma was a real cook - but my mom didn't follow in her footsteps - but I loved her heart anyway.

  11. Oh gosh, t his is so special. Aprons are a wonderful way to wrap ourselves up with love and memories of happy days in the past. I have some of my hubby's grandmother's very old and stained and falling apart aprons, mostly made from old flour sack material. I used to try to wear them, but they were just getting too fragile, so I've tucked them away in a drawer. I have some lovely aprons that my mother made for me and I love to put them on when we have holiday dinner to cook. Yes, they are wonderful and I love the pockets full of love idea. Thank you for this. I will look at my aprons in a new way today.

  13. I wear aprons. I love aprons, and I have a big collection of them. My mother always wore aprons and now my grandkids keep me supplied. In fact, one of my adult gramdsons make me one for Christmas. How about that a man who likes to sew!
Aprons on the clothlines bring up sweet memories. I'm so glad you are an apron person too. And pockets....yes, that's a must! Gotta run...time to make some sugar cookies for the "Cookie Kids"....and I''m put on my apron!!! Love and hugs
