Storms and a planned Soirée

Isn't it a wonderful Saturday morning?  Storms are expected later this evening around here, which saddens me a bit.

We're keeping a close eye on the skies today as storms are in the forecast for this evening. And while we all know Mother Nature has her own calendar, I'm truly hoping she'll show us a little grace tonight.

Each "MAY" a dedicated group of women in our community hosts a beautiful outdoor Soirée to raise money for scholarships for local seniors. These scholarships are given in loving memory of a young mom who passed away some twenty years ago. She was deeply involved in our community, and this annual event carries her spirit forward by helping young people step into their futures with a little less college financial burdens.

Through the years, many students have received these memorial scholarships, and each one is a reminder that even in loss, love finds a way to give. A lot of planning, heart, and very hard work goes into this event.

The men spending the evening before, cooking and preparing the meal for this occasion and the organizers pour a lot of themselves into making sure the tables make for a special time under the evening skies. Twinkle lights and a full table of auction items make the evening extra special.

So tonight, as the clouds gather, we are praying they will drift on by. Hoping for clear skies and a night filled with hope and remembrance for our community.

If the rain shows up.....I guess umbrellas will be passed out just as they have in the past.....and rain or shine, the love behind this event will shine brighter than any storm cloud ever could.

Shug......

PS.....Sam and I are going to go to an Estate Sale this morning...Hoping to find some good prices on a few things..

  2. What a wonderful community event! I hope the weather holds out and it goes well.
When I graduated from high school, I got a scholarship to help with nursing school costs that parents of a young man from my class started when he passed away in 11th grade. He had a heart issue no one knew about and passed suddenly.
I've remembered him through the years as I was working, so thankful for that gift. I'm sure the students that get these scholarships will feel the same.

  7. It's been raining here all day, too, but I'm crossing my fingers Mother Nature picks another direction before the soiree. Such a wonderful initiative! I hope you and Sam have great fun while treasure-hunting at that estate sale; lately that one of my favorite things to do.

  9. Isn't is wonderful when a community can come together to for a special event like this. I know many students have been blessed by this. Hoping the weather holds off and the event will be a great celebration for the community. When my dearest was in HighSchool he was in a Youth for Christ Preacher Boy contest and won a scholarship to Biola College, where we met. Estate Sales....my favorite, but haven't been to one in years. Wouldn't have room to put anything I found..haha. Hope you find a treasure.

  17. This sounds like a wonderful event raising money for the seniors. I'm glad it turned out well, even though there was a downpour of rain. The twinkle lights sound magical. The auction items make it even more special. When we had the fundraiser dinner, those auction items were awesome, and the people who got them must have been thrilled. Thanks for sharing a little about the lovely mom who was so involved in her community. Sounds like a very special night in her memory.
