"Digging In"

This morning is starting out slow, but I do have my coffee in hand. I can hear a few birds chirping and my wind chimes are singing beautifully. With Spring in full force, Sam and I decided that today is going to be a "Dig In" kind of day.

We will be planting ferns in the pots around the pool, as well as a few flowers that will add joy and color. The labor of getting my plants out early, always results in overflowing pots of stunning beauty by Summer's end.

I have found that peace grows from the smallest things. Things like a pot of healthy petunias, or a few pots filled with red fountain grass and a touch of creeping Jenny.

Before long, people will be calling me "The Fern Lady" since I am planting so many of them. But hey, these foxtail ferns are so easy to take care of and they can withstand the Texas heat.

Whatever you all have planned for the weekend, I hope you find a pocket of time to plant a little beauty.

  1. Texas is a lot like Florida, heat and humid. Wishing you a beautiful weekend my friend.

  2. I like your ferns and petunias. I haven’t planted a thing yet. I’m thankful for the perennials that take up the slack. I bet your yard will be blooming beautifully by summer.

  4. love ferns and have never had these, I just report the ferns that grow all over our yard, by yanking them out of the ground and putting in a pot. I kill flowers by neglect but do love them

  5. Shug, those Petunias are gorgeous. The have the most striking color! The contrast of the purple flowers and blue pot is so pretty. Your plants are coming along nicely. I have been wanting to get out there and spruce things up in the yard, but it will come a bit later when the weather is better. I absolutely love that dance picture and quote. Thanks for your delightful posts, Shug. I always leave here with a smile.

  6. I bet everyone in your neighborhood is so jealous of your yard. It looks very pretty.
I can just imagine your guys drinking coffee - I thought dig in - you were going to rest today - but no - you meant dig. Boy, do I love that meme.

  7. Your landscaping is so pretty, Shug!
The big red gardenia plant I bought from our church youth group is (so far) my only nod to Spring. Nevertheless, I'm itching to visit Lowe's garden center and see what looks easy.

  8. Beautiful plants. In my area planting annuals isn't advised before Mother's Day.

  9. I Love your new plants and know they will bring you so much Joy.
I yearn to have some potted plants in our backyard area too, but the darn weeds are so overpowering and unending that until we can clean them up ... no new projects...
I too am itching for better days ahead.
It seems like you are recouping from your angio. I'm happy to see that.
    Take it easy my friend

  14. Oh the beauty of the flowers. I love your ferns. I had breakfast with a young lady that wants me to mentor her and teach her some cooking skills. She's away from home going to college near us, and we knew her when she was just knee high. Then it was off to find a frame for one of my watercolors. Been a good day!!! Looking forward to Palm Sunday. Sending love and my feet are doing a little dance for you!!
