Happy FRIDAY morning!

Sam had a late doctor's appointment yesterday.  What was to be a regular check-up has turned in to him needing to have
2 new MRI's this next week, plus another test.
Not only is his cirrhosis being difficult, but he is having some big time blood sugar issues.
Just before his doctor came into the examination room, a student doctor came in.  The first question he asked was why Sam had cirrhosis of the liver.  He said: "is it from drinking too much alcohol?"
I suppose that might be the obvious reason for most, but Sam has NEVER drank alcohol.  There ARE other reason why people get cirrhosis of the liver.  Fatty liver is one and the other is a person's genes!

After the doctor's appointment, we went to the Nursing home to visit Sam's dad.

We took him outside and although this
picture doesn't show it, he really enjoyed being out in the nice air.  It was so comfortable outside.

After we made it home, we had a big laugh.

The great grandkids and their moms were here when we left to go to the doctor.    Emersyn thought this would be funny way to trick her Pops!

Mylee and I had lunch together yesterday.
Sushi was the choice.

This was my message in my fortune cookie..

  1. Shug, I'm sorry that Sam has to take additional tests. I hope all goes well with them. I think that student doctor needs to learn a thing or two. That doesn't seem appropriate to bluntly ask that. Reminds me of of the time I went to the dentist, and she said my front tooth was a bit uneven with the other, and she could fix that. I told her I bite my nails once in awhile, and she went on talking about biting nails and how I could stop it (which was good advice), but I told her, I don't smoke, I don't drink, I don't take drugs, if I bite my nails once in awhile, then that's Ok. ; ) That was so delightful that the grandkids left notes for Sam. And I'm glad Sam got a chance to spend some time with his dad and take him on a stroll outside. Your lunch with Mylee sounds fun, and I LOVE your fortune cookie - home is my favorite place to be. It's always so pleasant coming over to visit with you, Shug.

  2. Oh my goodness, on that doctor in training! That's so rude! I'm guessing Psychology 101 wasn't on his adult bingo card?
Too cute about the g-grands Post-it notes. I don't do sushi, but that's a great 'fortune.' Never forget!

    1. Yes, I was surprised at the Doctor's comment to Sam. I'm not crazy about Sushi, but I will eat it maybe once a year. I did enjoy having lunch with her though.

  3. I've gotten to the point where I don't want to go anywhere near a doctor's office. Poor Sam! I do hope his test results will be okay. And the post-it notes all over the chair? Priceless! What a wonderful family you have, Shug! Blessings!

  10. My brother ‘s wife, who never drank, smoked, or did drugs was diagnosed with non- Alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and her pancreas is enlarged. She’s in the end stages and it just does seem fair. She’s diabetic as well.
My husband was at the VA this week having 2 MRI’s as well. Today he saw the Audiologist who told him he needs hearing aids! Shocked him. That’s part of his service related disability from serving 20 years! He also have a heart condition. He’ll need a pacemaker eventually but so far so good. But even in spite of all of these health concerns he is active and doesn’t let any of it stop him from living!
I sure hope Sam is okay and there will be ways to treat him.
Nope, nada, no way do I eat sushi. I’m allergic to shell fish and sushi is usually prepared in places that also serve shellfish. Plus I take no chances. I rarely eat fish- although I love a good fish and chips once in awhile.
I hope for good things for you and Sam and your family. I hope you have a beautiful fall weekend.

  11. I think the alcohol - liver thing is an old wives tail. No one I know with liver issues or even liver cancer has been a drinker. I think it is very weird that a student doctor would even say that. And very rude. I'm sorry that your husband is dealing with these things but it sounds like they are keeping a good eye on him. My husband was dealing with some blood sugar issues earlier this year and it was not fun. He is a horrible "patient", no patience at all!

  12. Hi. Not sure if you have checked into natural aids that help conventional treatments, there are some that might help. Ten years ago I did chemo and surgery for breast cancer, and found many food, herb and vitamin remedies to help with the side effects of chemo, which among other things wreaks havoc with liver and kidneys. I took milk thistle seed extract which is a support antioxidant for liver. It also shows promising results for all liver related health issues. Of course anyone would do their own research, since some people are allergic to the milk thistle plant family. Good luck and keep in mind that nature provides a lot of remedies to conventional medicine.
