Cinco De Mayo and a Hodgepodge

Cinco De Mayo and a Hodgepodge

Joyce Asks the Questions
We Answer the Questions...

Now for some fun......

1. What's something you may do this month?

I may go to the zoo sometime this month..I haven't been in a very long time and I want to go before the weather gets too hot to be able to enjoy it.  I also....may organize my pantry! I haven't done this in a while and it really needs to be done!

2. Hola! Hodgepodge Day lands just after Cinco de Mayo... how do you feel about Mexican food? What's your favorite dish? Do you make it at home or is it a strictly dine out option?

I live in Texas and Texas is WELL KNOWN for Mexican restaurants.  In our neighboring city, there is a Mexican restaurant on every corner and they are always super busy.  We are all big fans of this kind of food.  Of course, we call it Tex-Mex.  I cook Mexican food every chance I get.  Enchiladas, tacos, nachos...you name it!! 🌮🌮🌮  When eating Mexican food, I want the whole experience....The noise, the chips and salsa, the hanging pinata's ... All of it..

3. When the children of today grow up what do you think they'll say about this time period? What do you most hope they remember?

I think they will say say it was fast...loud...and full of change. Technology, opinions, everything moving at lightning speed.  What I really hope they will say how great it feels to be loved. I do believe that they will remember good things, but I'm sure they will remember the chaos that is in the world today.  Hopefully they will understand as they become adults that in this world you work for what you have... There is NO entitlement.

4. What advice would you give a new mother?

Oh sweet new mother...BREATHE!!  The days may seem long, but the years pass by fast.  Teach them early about God...teach them early about love...make sure they know what family time is all about. Read to them every chance you get...Let them know they are loved...

5. What's a phrase your mother often said to you? If you're a mom do you say it to your own children?

"This too shall pass....it will be okay."  She was right!! The hard days, the tears, the worry...they don't stay forever.

I'm pretty sure that I have said this over and over again myself.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

We never.... oops....forgot what I was gonna say.

New thought....Sam and I had to run into town yesterday evening so we decided to eat a little Mexican food since it was Cinco De Mayo.  We stopped in at "The Jalenpen'o Tree" and ordered our favorites..  For me it was bean and cheese nachos.  For Sam it was chicken fajita nachos.  We brought half of each plate home with us.  And of course...we had to have the flour tortillas with a tad of honey.  So good, so yummy!!

Chips and Salsa..

this is what I got when I tried to snap a picture of Sam... lol.

Happy Hodgepodge-ing..

Shug....💛

  1. I recently reorganized my pantry (how does it get so out of order???) and it feels good to open the doors and see it looking tidy. Love your thoughts on #3. Happy Mother's Day to you!

  2. Our daughter and son-in-law were missionaries in Mexico City for a decade, and she learned to cook true Mexican food. We always enjoyed it when they were home on furlough and she would cook some of their traditional foods. Loved the picture of Sam.

  3. I have not been to a zoo in a while, that would be fun. I will have to try to fit in a visit for one of our 52 day dates. :-)
I want to come on over and go to the Mexican restaurants with you... oh the food sounds good.
    Happy Mother's Day!!

    1. We really do have some great tasting Mexican food in our area. I'm with you Mari...I usually do make a meal out of this..I think in our neighboring city there must be at least 30 different Mexican Restaurants. lol

  6. Dear Shug, I am not fond of Mexican food only because I cannot eat foods that are too hot and spicy. I do like Chinese, Greek and French cuisine!!!

  7. I bet Sam was smiling at you behind that plate!

  8. I love the pictures and especially of Sam. I'm sure he was smiling. The Mexican dinner sounds so good. I did make Mexican (taco meat) for supper last night, not even realizing it was Cinco De Mayo! LOL. I had a taco salad and hubby had a burrito. I would love some real authentic Mexican food someday, however. Mine is quick and easy. I've been trying to think of something special my mother used to say, and I honestly am drawing a blank, but she taught me so much. But mostly I can hear her telling me to make my bed, brush my teeth, come do the dishes...come set the table..." LOL. But the words she wrote in my little autograph book when I was 10 have stuck with me all these years...Psalm 19:14...my theme verse for my blog. "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer." I guess that spoke volumes and helped form my life. Thank you for your wonderful posts. Have a blessed and beautiful Mother's Day.

  9. The restaurant looks cute. I like Sam's shirt. You always give the best advice and have the best outlook on life. The zoo will be fun if it's not too hot. Maybe you will post some photos. Zoos in Texas must be awesome.

  10. The trip to the zoo sounds like fun!
Mexican food is not a big thing here which seems like a shame, the more I read about it, the more I want it.
What wonderful advice for a new mother!
What a fun photo of Sam!

  11. I do love really good Mexican food, Shug. Lately, when I've seen new moms either in the store or at the park, I advise them to enjoy every precious moment because children grow up much faster than you can imagine. And is Sam playing hide-and-seek? LOL! You both have such a great sense of humor. Blessings!

  17. I think that is a cute picture of Sam. Was he playing around or hiding? I love Mexican Food and I love the chips and cheese. I can't take the spicy too much. I love the zoo too - does Texas have a good one? You do always have a positive attitude and you are so sweet. Best wishes tomorrow.

  20. I love the peppers mural even though I don't like spicy things...except for people. I have a soft spot for spicy people. I would never make it eating in Texas but I've always wanted to visit.
