A Bully in Town...

We have a bully in town....and lately he has decided to hang out right here at our house... Frustrating for sure!

This bully is teeny tiny... and his  name is ........"Sir Zippy McFlutter"

Now before you picture some giant creature causing chaos, let me explain. This is a little hummingbird and it might weigh just a few ounces...but he has the attitude of a linebacker guarding the last slice of pie at a church supper...

He spends long stretches of the day perched nearby, keeping a close eye on "his" feeders.  The minute another hummingbird dares to flutter in for a sip of the sweet nectar, here he comes....darting, diving, and chasing them away like he owns the whole backyard.  Bless his little territorial heart.

Sam and I have sat outside laughing and shaking our heads watching this tiny feathered fellow rule the skies like a sheriff in a western movie.  It's amazing how something so small can have such a big personality.

Honestly, I never knew bird drama could be so entertaining.  One minute it looks peaceful and serene outside....and the next minute it's an aerial wrestling match over sugar water.

I went outside yesterday and moved the feeders all around the backyard so that it might make it a bit harder for him to guard all of them, but I can sure tell you, he is trying hard to control them all.

All of the other hummers might have to gang up on "Sir Zippy McFlutter" and show him that he is not the Boss!!  He is for sure...fast and can be very annoying......but cute in his own way.

🌸🌼🌺🌼🌸

Wishing you all a fabulous Mother's day Weekend...

*Note...I will be late visiting and reading your posts today... Looking forward to catching up...

  1. Amazing, I did not know they could be so territorial. We don't have humming birds in the UK, but robins are territorial for their bit of the garden.

    God bless.

  2. "Sir Zippy" .... I love it! The way you write is so dog-gone entertaining, Shug.
No-one might guess the weight on your heart. Yes, we can never predict the way in which Life calls an audible on our plans and schemes. Nothing to do but mutter a "Yes, Coach" and play our part. Prayers!

  3. Well, Sir Zippy has a cousin here in California. We too have one who needs to learn how to share. And if his feeder is nearly empty, he flutters outside our garden window looking at one of us or dive bombs us. They are comical for sure.

Continually thinking and praying. You're definitely a lesson to us all - as you voluntarily set aside your own schedule and desires for the sake of another. Much like Christ emptied Himself for humanity. I can't say I know how hard it is, since I have not walked in your shoes but I can imagine that it is - I don't know if I could be as positive as you are. Truly it's a testimony of your faith and steadfastness. Hoping for a truly blessed weekend surrounded by those you love and who love you back! 🌸
