WHEEL-ING AND HODGEPODGE-ING
KIND OF DAY...
1. Big week in the US of A...do you do your own taxes? What's something you've found 'taxing' lately
We have used the same accountant for the past 48 years, so I honestly don't keep up with all the changes in taxes anymore...and I am perfectly fine with that! 🙂
Something I have found to be very "taxing" lately? Just the busyness of life. Some weeks feel like they come at your from every direction.
2. When it comes to travel are you a last minute packer or a lay it all out a week in advance type? Do you struggle to pack light? Share a packing tip that has worked for you.
I'm definitely a "pack a week in advance" kind of girl. I try my best to pack light...but let's just say I haven't quite mastered that yet! I'll post a picture of my spare bedroom two weeks before I actually put my clothes in the suitcase on my Ireland trip...
One tip that helps me is laying everything out ahead of time and then putting a few things back. I don't always listen to myself...but it's a good idea anyway! I would also suggest purchasing vacuum packing items that will not wrinkle.
3. April is National Grilled Cheese Month. Hmmm...who knew it got its own month? Do you like a grilled cheese sandwich? What ingredient do you add to take yours to the next level?
I had no idea grilled cheese had its own month, but I'm certainly not made about it.
I do love a good grilled cheese sandwich, and I like to add slices of tomato while it's grilling. It gives it just a little extra something...simple but so good. Oh yesss...lots of black pepper on the tomato.
4. There's a well known quote that says-
'A ship in the harbor is safe, but that's not what ships are built for." John A. Shedd
This quote really makes you think. While growth is important, I believe peace and stability matter just as much..maybe even more in some seasons of life.
Is constant growth necessary or do you think it's more important to prioritize stability and peace in your life?
I prefer to be content, resting in where I am, and trusting that not every moment has to be about striving.
5. Let's wrap this up with a fun spring this or that-
- daffodils or tulips. Tulips 🌷
- lemonade or iced tea. Iced Tea 🧊
- gardening or hiking. Gardening 🌻
- ladybugs or butterflies. Butterflies 🦋
- umbrella or raincoat. Umbrella ☔️
- floral patterns or polka dots Polka dots. 🔵 🔴
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Is my number ever going to get picked on WHEEL OF FORTUNE?
We sit down and watch it just about every evening, calling out letters like we've been invited contestants...which we haven't.... we solve puzzles from the comfort of our recliners, and yet night after night....I'm still not a winner.
My number never gets called. I've bout decided that they have lost my number. But, I guess that's part of the fun, isn't it? Hoping .... guessing... and just enjoying the show.
WHO KNOWS...MAYBE TOMORROW NIGHT WILL BE MY NIGHT.
Shug....💛
Good morning, Shug. Thanks for all your visits to Writing Straight from the Heart and for your comments, too. I know exactly what you mean about each busy day coming at you like a bowling ball. Whew! I'm feeling that, too. Sam seems like a very determined , persevering man. God bless that man and you. Prayers continue. I wish you both the best. Have a good rest of the week. Hugs. Susan
ReplyDeleteSusan I enjoy visiting you each time I come to a new day. Great place with not only lots of inspiration, but I enjoy your ALWAYS positive spirit..
DeleteOh yes, black pepper on that tomato. :-)
ReplyDeleteIce tea, gardening and butterflies, oh and polka dots too.
xo
These are the good things in life aren't they Carla. always pepper on a tomato...
DeleteI agree with the pepper on that tomato and it needs a good shake of salt too. I also agree with your thoughts on growth. There comes a time in our lives where we don't always need to be 'striving'. After decades of that I have to give myself a talking to sometimes saying it's okay to not always be doing and accomplishing. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOh Joyce...I still have to give myself those talks as well....Hope your day is awesome as well..
DeleteOh yes! I get that with the busyness of life, the past couple of weeks have been hectic for me. Great tips with the packing. I hope you get the call one day from The Wheel of Fortune! It is such a great show.
ReplyDeleteOh me too Kim... I don't care if its a big ticket item or something small...I just want them to call my number. lol.
DeleteI haven't mastered packing light either. I pack with a "what if" attitude - and usually don't need most of it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love a grilled cheese with tomato.
How is it that life just stays so busy? And you have all the Sam stuff which makes it even more busy.
The busyness of life is sure tiring...I went to my cardiologist yesterday and I told him I have been so tired. I am pretty positive that it's the extra I am doing right now, but my doctor is very pro active and it looks like I might be having a cath done in the next few weeks..
DeleteOh I like grilled cheese just plain:) We watch Wheel also...I had numbers years ago I have no idea what they are anymore. We have an accountant who does our taxes. We have been audited twice and after that I will not do them anymore! We have not travelled in a long time...I would take too much stuff:)
ReplyDeleteWe were audited one time and what a nightmare it was...Thankfully our accountant took care of all the details. I'm to the point that traveling gets more and more difficult...
DeleteDave and I do our taxes together since things haven't changed in the past few years. Limited income ... oh well it has been done and I'm glad its out of the way for another year.
ReplyDeleteLove me some grilled Cheese sandwiches or sometimes when I "Need" a snack, cheese on a tortilla is just right to stave off the hunger pangs (:0)
Packing and I aren't the best of friends. I had to do it so much when Dave and I were in the Convention/trade show business. It was always a challenge to pack suits for Dave and sometimes winter things for Chicago and NYC in the freezing months.
I do like watching Wheel and trying to answer the words. Haven't watched in a while though.
Continued prayers for that man of yours and strength for you too.
(((hugs)))
Sue
Thank you always for the prayers...they are so needed. One of Sam's go to snacks is the tortilla and cheese wrap...I'll have to tell him that he's not the only one that enjoys it. I can only imagine how difficult it was for you to pack for all kinds of weather and temps. I just finished packing our bag for tonight and tomorrow night and of course, I packed extra. Trying to stick to one small bag. Wheel of Fortune is an every night show for Sam...He loves it..I like it too, but I'm not glued to having to see it. We are almost there at having a limited income.. Sam still goes into the office, but I'm not sure how much longer he can do this. Wishing you the best rest of this week....I'm not sure if I will get the chance to blog tomorrow or Friday... xoxo
DeleteThank you for your comment on my post today, it was a real blessing. I love your answer to the ship in the harbor question! That is the way I feel as well.
ReplyDeleteGinny...I love visiting your blog and look forward to it each day. You always have the most unique things to post about...
DeleteThe same accountant for 48 years...that's pretty impressive!! You are a faithful one! Happy Wednesday to you -
ReplyDeleteWhen you have an accountant that understands the way farming works, it's best to stick with them. He is so good and truly understands all the depreciations as well as how the company operates.
DeleteI enjoyed your answers to this week's Hodgepodge questions, Shug. Love your answer to the quote! xx
ReplyDeleteI went to a new to me restaurant for lunch on Sunday and ordered a grilled cheese on with pepperoni on good sourdough bread. It was awesome!
ReplyDeleteMy husband was the same way with wheel of fortune. Watched every day and he never won either.
ReplyDeleteI took my taxes to H&R block the first year after my husband passed away but have been doing them myself ever since.
I'm watching Wheel of Fortune while going through blogs right now :) We always use an accountant for taxes. Not the forte for either one of us!
ReplyDeleteI've not had an opportunity to pack for a long time. But!, like you (and my late father) I start waaaay ahead of time -- even planning my outfits for planned excursions/events. (OCD much?)
ReplyDeleteI worked for a CPA firm for many years and tho' the $ was welcomed, I don't miss a single day. Those preparers are worth their weight in gold!
How can grilled cheese sandwiches enjoy a total month of celebration, but we only celebrate our veterans on one day? As much as I love grilled cheese, there's something just not right about that. I love Wheel of Fortune, but haven't watched it in ages. Danny's mother loved that show and Jeopardy. We watched both every night when we were taking care of her at our home.. Blessings, Shug!
ReplyDeleteI do not pack light - I want to, but I just can't. I pack with a what if attitude too - what if I need it! I usually don't.
ReplyDeleteI like a grilled cheese with tomato too.
I am really feeling life is busy right now too and I'd like to slow down.
I've always been extremely growth oriented, but that doesn't mean achieving. It's more handling things well, being patient, loving, persistent, resilient, etc. ❤️
ReplyDeleteI hope all goes well for Sam today.
ReplyDeleteBeen keeping you all in prayer, my friend. Thanks for the smiles.
ReplyDeleteIt's true, life is getting busier all the time. When I have to go somewhere I do all the packing well in advance. I also like to drive there the day before to check what roads to take, where to park etc ... Sometimes, when the distance is too far away, like in Europe, by the time I get there and then return back home it is time to get there once again.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hello my Lovely! Always love checking in on your answers. I'm a list maker and put piles together in advance for packing girlie. And then I edit down when I truly pack. And I LIVE for grilled cheese sammy's. Especially on really good bread to dip in tomato soup. Or if I'm having them on their own I add thinly sliced apple and really good cheddar. Nothing better! Love your this or that as I keep dreaming on Spring. 🌸
ReplyDeleteJust stopping by to say Hi, and enjoyed all your answers and to the Hodge Podge. I've never been a winner either, although we enjoy the show. Right now we are consentrating on staying healthy and well so we can take a few more day trips and even another weekend. God is good and I'm rejocing in my continuing healing. Sending love and hugs.
ReplyDeletePS ~ grilled cheese on rustic sourdough.....the best!!!!
