Hodgepodge Wednesday

Hodgepodge Day

Joyce asks the Questions

We answer the Questions

HERE

Mix and Match Hodgepodge

From EGGS, to BEER, to SIBLINGS

to the LETTER G, to SCENTS

TO...RANDOM THOUGHTS....

1. Egg on your face, putting all your eggs in one basket, a good egg, walk on eggshells, nest egg, or a tough egg to crack...which eggy idiom currently applies to your life in some way? Explain

Right now, I would say "Putting all my eggs in one basket" fits best.  Life has a funny way of reminding me of how much I pour into the things (people) I love. This might sound a little risky, but it also feels honest. When you care deeply, you don't hold back, you give your all to them.

2. April 7th is National Beer Day...are you a beer drinker? If so do you have a favorite? Beer battered fish, beer bread, beer can chicken, beer brats...which one sounds good to you? Have you made any of these?

I am not a drinker of any kind of alcohol including Beer...however, I can appreciate what you can make with it!  Most likely...Beer battered fish.

To tell the truth...we have never had a can or bottle of beer in our home...so, my answer would be No, I have not cooked or baked with beer.

3. Do you have siblings? What's the best thing about being your sibling? If you don't have siblings, what would you say are the pros and cons of being an only child?

Yes...I had one sister who passed away at the early age of 28. I had a younger brother who passed away Christmas Day, 2024.   I also have another brother (David) and we live about a mile away from each other.

The best thing about me being David's sibling is that I am a truly dedicated sister.  We are very close and he knows that I am and will always be there for he and his family.

4. How do you feel about floral scents in products? Do you have a favorite?

I do not care for many scents that come in candles or potpourri.  I have purchased many different room sprays, candles, melts and such......but have ended up giving them away because the scent makes me sick.

If I did have a favorite, it would be cinnamon.

5. What's one thing in your home that begins with the letter G that you would say is a keeper, something you'll hold on to? Tell us why.

Grandmother's dishes!  Anything passed down or given with love tends to carry more than just its physical presence...it carries memories, stories and a piece of someone's heart.  Those are the thing I hold on to the longest..

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Truthfully....I am moving slow in the random thought category.  My thoughts have been consumed with my April calendar.

  1. IMO the only thing beer is good for is batter fried fish. Bear itself stinks, worse yet it gives drinkers stinky breath.

  2. I don't know whether to be impressed or sympathetic with your calendar graphic :-)

  3. Your calendar is so clever, Shug. Such a decorative way to keep track of what need's doing. Enjoyed your answers here, too. Praying for Sam!

  4. Prayers for you and for Sam. You are his biggest supporter and most important team member! It was so helpful to us during the Oncology visits to have Jen with us...three sets of ears!! We cannot do any scents because they affect Far Guys breathing. We are not beer drinkers at all but in the Summer I do like a margarita at our fav Mexican place. I am ever thankful for my siblings:)

  5. I don't like beer either, but I do like making things with it - like beer bread!
I am so thankful for siblings.
Your calendar is a busy one. I know you enjoy those rare free days.

  6. Oh Boy, that calendar of yours is really full !
I think your giving your Sam and family being your highest "pour-into" is the best.
I haven't had a beer in ages but do enjoy it now and then. When I was nursing my babies the doctor suggested having a beer to increase the iron. Don't know if it did much good or not and I think that 50+ years ago thought were different than nowadays. (:0)
I am an only child and never really minded it. I had a very close girl friend that was like a sister. What you don't have you don't miss.
I agree on the fragrances too. I can't walk down the perfume aisles or candle ones.
I can never get rid of my Grandma's Chocolate pitcher and cups. They are very precious to me. They are from my step Grandma as my Grandma passed away long before I was born.
Good questions and I love your answers.
Prayers continuing for Sam and for you.

    1. Interesting about the beer and Iron...those older doctors knew more than anyone gives them credit for. They seemed to know about the simple, more common things to make people feel better. I am happy that we have things from our grandparents to hold on to. I hope my children will someday cherish the things that are important to me. love you

  7. Loved all your answers Shug. I just answered them on a different blogger friend.
I love my Sand and Fog candels as the fragrance is fresh like the ocean which I love.
I have one brother who is in heaven, as cancer took him 5 years ago. He was the little brother being 10 years younger than me. I have an older sister who just turned 90 last year we are 6 year apart. So spread out it was almost like being the only child.
I'm not a drinker, but I do love the beer batter fish filets.
I have my mothers teacup that she received on her 1st birthday. She is in heaven since 1991 but the cup and her picture grace my hutch. That cup is over 100 years old now.
Praying for your busy schedule, and Sam's health. Have so appreciated your prayers for me and my dearest. We are doing so good right now. Praise the Lord.

  8. Hello dear Shug!
I'm not a beer Gal either - but I do love beer flavored things. So sorry you have lost some of your siblings already....but love hearing about how close you are with your brother. I'm a cinnamon scent girlie too (although there are some florals I like too). That calendar is about the cutest thing I've ever seen. 😍 Blessings and hugs. xoox

    1. Thank you Carrie for your caring heart. My (I call him my older brother but he is only my oldest of the two brothers). He and I have been through so much in life together and we have shared many tears as well as laughter... I keep cinnamon wall plugs going in my house all year long.

  11. Always nice to give all we got. I love that you do that too! And I LOOOVE the daisies. They are my most fave flower. Though I really love other ones too. Daisies hold a special place in my heart.

I have a rolling pin my gram gave me and it holds a great deal of joy to use and just to even see it on the dough bench. So I get where you're coming from.

  12. This may be a bust calendar, but such a pretty one. I love your daisy header. I don't like beer either, even the smell. But it is so good in dishes like cheese soup and batter.
