I've often thought about how strange the name sounds....Good Friday.
When you really stop and think about it...the day Jesus was beaten, mocked and crucified.....there doesn't seem to be anything "Good" about it at all.
If any of us had stood there that day, if any of us had watched it unfold...I don't think we would think of it as good.
His followers didn't. His friends didn't.
Those who loved Him most...they saw heartbreak, loss and what felt like the end of everything they believed in.
Can you imagine how terrible that day must have been? A day totally full of sorrow and I'm sure much confusion and darkness.
I'm sure it looked like evil had won!
This day was not an accident and it sure wasn't defeat....it was a decision.
Jesus did not stay on the cross because He had to...He stayed because He chose to. The nails did not hold Him there, but LOVE did.
It was love for His Father and love for you and me.
Sin didn't win that day and Death didn't win that day.
....3 days later everything changed! What seemed like loss turned into VICTORY! What felt like darkness gave way to light...What looked like death, was overcome by life.
THIS IS WHY WE CALL IT "GOOD FRIDAY."
Despite its sorrowful nature, Good Friday is considered the "Best Day" for humanity because of the ultimate good..forgiveness and salvation that was given to us through the suffering of Jesus Christ.
Shug....
Even in the darkest moments...God is still writing something GOOD!
Well said and written.

DeleteYes, you said it so well!
ReplyDeleteA long time ago there was a preacher who told my dad a story about Good Friday ...about why it is called Good. I wish I could remember the story..I remember being fascinated by it.
DeleteI did a quick search and AI said Old English, Good meant Holy, and Holy Friday It is regarded as "good" because it represents the day humanity was redeemed, reconciliation with God was made possible, and God's love was displayed through sacrifice. Yours is better than AI but at least it was correct. It said many countries still call it Holy Friday
ReplyDeleteI seldomly use AI but it's good to know that it is correct. Happy Easter.
Deletelove you, Shug.

ReplyDeleteMuch love always. ❤️💕❤️💕❤️💕
ReplyDeleteI have often thought of the term Good Friday as well. Since it was too awful to even contemplate at times. Even considering the bloodthirsty crowd! But it was good for all of humanity. What are you doing this weekend? I hope you have a lovely Easter.
ReplyDeleteI don't know but I imagine they named it way after - and they knew without the Friday there would never be an Easter. So, it was good that it happened? I don't know. I did buy Rick one of the mattress pad heaters. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYour last statement is something the Lord has been saying to me in recent months. Seeing it here on your blog is a further confirmation that this is something He wants me to believe. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully stated.
ReplyDeleteYes Good for all believers!
ReplyDeleteSo difficult to understand their emotions, to wrap my head around how it must have felt to be there. Oh Shug, I really appreciate your explanations!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking those very thoughts today and I meditate on Good Friday. It's good, because what God does is always for His will, my good, and His Glory. Dark Friday turned to JOY with the Easter morning. I love the song "Then came the Morning".
ReplyDeleteSo happy to be back in the blogging lane after a long absence of pain and waiting for surgery. It was sucessful and I'm so very grateful. You have a real heart for the Lord and a great way of sharing it. Have missed you.
I don't think I've ever heard it put so well.
ReplyDelete"God is still writing something good." I love this statement. Even on Good Friday, when all went dark, God had a plan for our good. Thank you for this perfect explanation. I hope you and Sam have a beautiful Easter, Shug.
