1. April 22nd is Earth Day…what’s the most “out of this world” place you’ve ever visited? Tell us something about it.
One of the most “out of this world” places I’ve experienced was in Alaska....I have traveled to many places, but I totally enjoyed our trip to Alaska.. My favorites were the train rides...Train ride from Anchorage to Seward...AMAZING. I could take this train ride over and over again... And then...our train ride on the White Pass & Yukon Route Railway. So much beauty and I find train rides to be very relaxing.
2. A favorite quote, verse, or song lyric with the word earth in it?
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” – Psalm 24:1
That verse always centers me. It’s a reminder that this world isn’t ours to control, but to care for, appreciate, and walk through with gratitude.
3. What’s the most trivial thing about which you have a strong opinion?
On my list would be people standing in front of the coffee dispenser (say at a hotel or public place) adding their cream and sugar and stirring and stirring. My strong opinion... get your coffee, get your sugar and creamer, and move to a table to mix and stir.. Also... People coming in and filling up a huge thermos with coffee while emptying the pot. all of this is trivial, but very annoying.
One more thing.. the lack of reverence shown by many (not only young people but more and more older folks as well) such as wearing caps in the sanctuary. shorts, tops that need more material etc etc. Saddens me that the reverence is slowly fading.
4. What’s your most commonly used kitchen utensil or tool? What’s the last thing you made using that tool?
My most-used kitchen tool is probably my good old wooden spoon. A wooden spoon—feels like home. The last thing I made with it was a big pot of chili. This one wooden spoon has probably stirred more memories than meals in my house. Not only has it been used for my cooking, but the grand-kids (when they were younger) used it to play drums with when beating on the pots and pans. ❤️❤️
5. What is your greatest extravagance?
My greatest extravagance.... Hmmm... I'm guessing it might be our pool. It wasn't something we had to have, but it was something that we wanted. Our family enjoys the pool and especially during the summer holidays and Birthdays....when we have big cookouts.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I agree with your thoughts on reverence. I understand people without the means or wardrobe to dress being welcomed into church but mostly what I see falls under the heading of lazy or I just want to be comfy. I have been to more than 3/4 of the US, but never to Alaska. Maybe someday.

My friend Charles made me some wooden spoons. :-) I love cooking with them.
They make me think of Charles when I am cooking and they are favorites of mine to cook with.
I am so glad that you got your pool Shug - kind of important in Texas!
ReplyDeleteMy complaint would be the people who go use things and don't clean up after themselves - they leave it for someone else to do. I always try to leave things better than I found them!!
Appropriate dress is important for so many reasons. I hate sloppy clothes on 'smart' occasions.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you about the coffee line. And also, I will add something else. The grocery store, where after people pay they take forever to put their credit card away in the perfect position and start rearranging their wallet. While everyone behind them waits and waits. I remember when everyone used to get dressed up to go to church, even wear gloves. I do think relaxing that dress code and being more casual is good, but also younger people need to be more modest in church! And I may be old fashioned, but I don't like people getting up on the pulpit wearing shorts!!

ReplyDeleteI would say the most out of the world place I have been would be Kenya, East Africa.
The sights, the sounds, the people, the seeing wild life in the WILD not a zoo...oh my I could go on and on ...
I like your verse and its a perfect reminder that God is still in control and everything is His.
Trivial things that bug me ... The shoppers that leave their cart blocking everything, lack of modesty, parents that don't reign their kids in at restaurants their loud voices and parents ignoring how it affects those around them..
An extravagance has been taking trips that we really couldn't afford but were worth it for the memories and exposure to other cultures. Building family memory treasures is so high on my list.

ReplyDeleteThe coffee thing made me think of the last time I stayed in a hotel, people were buttering their toast in front of the toaster not letting anyone else in to use it. I have little patience when I am hungry and asked them to move on. hehehe
Your pool looks fantastic! It sounds like it gets a lot of use.
Oh Kim....that is a pet peeve of mine too. why not move so others can get up there. We love the pool...lots of maintenance but so enjoyable during the summer months...TEXAS HEAT can be bad.

ReplyDeleteOh my, I could go on and on about the downhill slide this world is taking lately. I have a very hard time with my face showing my feelings...I'm sure it will get me in trouble one day. HA HA I would love to go on a train ride in Alaska. I thought it might be our 50th anniversary gift to ourselves, but I am the lone ranger on that thought. I am collecting the videos and lists and where tos and don't go heres though. I will be ready! Sending up prayers for you and Sam.
ReplyDeleteWow, a lot to think about here. I would love the trip to Alaska, especially the train ride. I don't see it happening, but we've enjoyed watching some programs about it. And yes, appropriate dress in church...modesty is the biggest thing to me (or the lack thereof). Of course, here in Florida people are much more casual than they are in the bigger cities and places up north. But just please dress decently and modestly. Oh, your pool looks like something that is well worth the extra expense. Look at the memories being made there! So wonderful!!!

ReplyDeleteI absolutely adore the wooden spoons I use, especially one that belonged to Danny's mother, probably inherited from her mother. It is sturdy, strong and feels like holding love in my hands when I use it. It's a must when I'm making oatmeal cookies. Blessings, Shug, and prayers lifted daily for Sam and you!

I’m a wooden spoon girl too. So comforting. And your pool is so beautiful! If we didn’t have the bay or lake I think I’d want one. Lol 💗
ReplyDelete"Tops than need more material"...LOL that's the nice way saying hooker clothes. The US isn't the only country with the issue of flip, who cares attitude of many people towards places of worship. Tucker Carlson hit the nail on the head when he said that when you erase religion, the void is filed by something else, which appears to be money, stuff and tech. There used to be red lines, today's wars where churches, mosques, synagogues are bombed to rubble show a lack of old boundaries which used to keep us civilized.
