Before I began writing about St. Patricks Cathedral, I want to point out what I consider to be a BIG thing.
I did not wear my Apple watch on this trip, but my daughter (Shanda) did. We walked a LOT on this trip and I'm not quiet sure how I was able to keep up, but I DID.
Shanda calculated all of our steps and would you believe that we walked over 35 miles on this trip to Ireland. Of course, this includes the airports as well and a long walk over to visit St. Patricks Cathedral.
It was incredible to see the cathedral. From the moment we stepped inside, it felt so peaceful. The high, arching ceilings seemed to stretch all the way to heaven, and the light pouring through the stained glass windows was so gentle with a sacred glow.
Walking along those beautifully patterned floors, I couldn't help but think about all the footsteps that came before mine. Generations of prayers, tears, hope and gratitude have filled that space.
The details were breathtaking. Every tile, all of the carvings and every banner told a story. There was a lot to take in and even with others all around, I felt a reverence in the air.
Ireland has it's own way of touching your heart and it simply did touch mine, but this place.....this cathedral...felt like a holy pause in the middle of it all. It was a place to breath and a place to reflect.
This cathedral....the very place where many of my steps were taken, has stood for more than 830 years. This is amazing to think about. The very floors that I walked on, the arches I looked at.....have witnessed centuries of history changes as well as details that tell of stories past.
I am so very thankful to have had this opportunity to visit this place...even if I did have to do a lot of walking!!
Happy Sunday Friends..
Shug...💛

It is truly amazing! Awe inspiring to say the least.. So beautiful. and that is a ton of walking, not sure I would have been able do that much. its gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteYes Mam totally stunning cathedral. I am trying to continue walking each day now. I figure if I did it over there, I can do it here.
Delete830 years and all the steps taken over those years PLUS the 35 miles you did on the trip are alllll amazing! Love that.
ReplyDeletecan you imagine? And the cathedral was really in good shape and well taken care of. those 35 miles were hard but I made it. a big Woo Hoo.
Deleteit's so neat that they take good care. I love that. Well done on the walking. wishing you a kick-butt good week ahead.
DeleteWhat a wonderful Cathedral. Thank you so much, Shug, for sharing your holiday with us.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and yours.
I loved this trip to Ireland and seeing all of the great history in the land.
DeleteWow, 830 years - amazing and all that history it survived and became a safe haven for the faithful. I'm thinking the rein of Henry VIII, with all the religious and political conflict.
ReplyDeleteYes, Amen...it is so hard to take in the reality of how old the cathedral is. As I placed my hands on the stones, my heart was filled with a depth of wonder.
DeleteThank you for showcasing this beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral was truly a blessing to see.
DeleteSeeing the cathedral here on your blog this Sunday afternoon is very special. The architecture is stunning and even far-removed from the actual location, I sense the reverence you describe. Thank you for sharing your pictures.
ReplyDeleteseeing This cathedral was worth the visit. Although it was a long walk from our hotel, I am thankful that I made the walk and was present in the place.
DeleteThat was a lot of miles. I know I could not do that. But oh, what sights you saw blessed lady. That was a beautiful cathedral. I have heard of it. But to see it - the architecture and all the glass and brick. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLOL. it was a lot of miles but I was determined to keep up with the younger ones. I think I may have been the oldest on the trip. My daughters were constantly checking on me but I will say that there were many steps when I was ahead of them.. woo hoo!!
DeleteCathedrals, large or small, are awe-inspiring. The stained glass windows are so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI agree. The stained glass was beautiful especially with the sun shining through
DeleteWell, first, I love your gorgeous header and background. And those stained-glass windows!! They are my favorite. And the ceiling! And the interesting carving on the wooden pews. It does not surprise me how much you walked, as I think lots of attractions there require it. I am so happy that you are dedicating each post to one thing. That way my tour with you will last a long time. I will be sad when it's over. again, your header blew my mind! Ginny
ReplyDeleteOh, what an exquisite place St. Patrick's is, Shug. It's steeped in both human history and the Holy Spirit. The floors and stained glass are marvels to behold. I'm so glad you shared this with us here as we are all better for having seen this cathedral. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of miles of walking, Shug. I know it's not easy, as I have trouble with the left foot, and it becomes sore if I walk too long. Good for you for keeping up with the others. Some of these Cathedrals are so very old and historic, and I often wonder how they are still standing. This is the one from Dublin, right? I am enjoying your Ireland journey, Shug. Have a peaceful Sunday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThat was a lot of steps! Kudos to you for keeping up!
ReplyDeleteThe cathedral is just gorgeous. I can't imagine how they built these places so long ago. Glad you got to go and glad we get to see these sights with you now!
Wow! What an awe-inspiring place--both outside and inside. The architecture, the stained glass windows, those high arched ceilings that truly do seem to be reaching to the sky, are all beyond beautiful. I can feel the holiness of the place just looking at your wonderful pictures, and would love to know the stories behind some of those tiles and carvings.
ReplyDeleteI'm also very impressed that you were able to do al that walking and even keep up with the others. You must be in really great shape.
Way to go on all that walking -- unintentional as it may have been! Have you thought about starting a motivational something-or-another to get the rest of us, up off our bottoms?
ReplyDeleteThose images of the cathedral make me want to sing that song (from Top Gun?), "Take my Breath Away."
Wow, it's absolutely gorgeous. Every detail is simply amazing. It's rather awe inspiring to see places like this.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the pictures. Wow! 35 miles is impressive. ❤️
