It is a beautiful Palm Sunday here in East Texas. We are stepping into Holy Week. So gentle...so sacred...and needed.
I'm not going to lie...these past few days have been exhausting. More especially for Sam. Life has a way of piling things on us all at once, doesn't it? But somehow, even in the tired, there's still grace tucked in the corners. I am so thankful for this grace.
Today is Senior Sunday, and if you've followed me for very long, you know I always like to tuck these moments away in my memory book.
Our sweet Mylee will graduate on May 16th. How in the world did we get here so fast?
As I sat thinking about her today, one thing kept coming to mind...HER BLANKET!
Since the day she was born, she has loved that blanket. A dear friend of mine gave it to her...and at one time it was the prettiest blanket, pink and yellow, with delicate stitching around the edges. Over the years, it's been loved well...worn soft by time, travel, and tiny hands that never quite would let it go.
This blanket has been everywhere....Costa Rica, Guatemala, Colorado, California, and lastly to Ireland. I suppose we could call it "the Traveling Blanket." It's real name is:
Pink Bwank Bwank!!! A name Mylee gave it when she was first learning to talk.
And if you know Mylee, you know this...she may love you dearly, but that blanket? Well...not just anyone gets the privilege of holding it. We've had more laughs over that little blanket than I can count.
But...Isn't it something how love can settle itself into the simplest of things? A blanket, a gift, a thread of kindness that never really unravels.
I couldn't help but think of my sweet blogging friend Connie over at Far side of Fifty. She spends a lot of her time crocheting beautiful baby blankets...one after another. And I wonder if she fully knows how something made with HER hands might become someone's everything. A comfort, a memory, a piece of home they carry through life.
This is what Mylee's blanket is to her. .......
Love isn't always loud. Sometimes it is stitched quietly into the fabric of everyday life. Sometimes it does look like a worn out blanket that's been held a thousand times.
This Palm Sunday, in the middle of our tired hearts and our very full days, I am extremely thankful for the small steady reminders of love.

This is so sweet. I love that it's still around. I have a cedar chest that has a few of those loved items as well. Such memories!
ReplyDeleteGraduation will be there sooner than you know. You will have so much fun! We did when our Anne Marie graduated. Parties, the ceremony, parades with our cars driving by the graduates and hoking, balloons. You will have a ball! And of course I want to see it all. Her name for the blanket is adorable and gave me a laugh. And it is in really good condition considering all the time and places that has taken place. I love your pink polka dots and the cute bunny. Ginny
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post. It was my privilege to to sew quilts for all of my grandchildren and my sister's grandchildren and for just about every baby shower and other expected baby I was aware of for many years. I put a label on the back of each one with my name and a Bible verse. Have long since lost count how many I made (but between my sister and me, it's 22 blankets and then all the others). My life has changed, and my fervor for sewing eventually wore out, so this is just a wonderful memory of the past, but it was a good ministry for many years.
ReplyDeleteI love the story of Mylee and her blanket. Two of my boys had a special blanket (and one had a stuffed animal lovie), but they all gave them up by the time they started elementary school.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful post, Shug.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure this blanket is. And how special that she takes it with her on her journeys to far away places. The squares look purple and white in the pictures, hmmm. I hope she enjoys it for years to come, and maybe pass it on to her own child someday. Happy Palm Sunday, Shug. Love those polka dot side bars! ; )
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention.....that is the cutest bunny. I hope you will get some good answers this coming Wednesday.
DeleteWhat a sweet treasure that is for Mylee
ReplyDeleteMy boys also had their favorite baby blankets that were on their bed, till they moved out. And they brought them with them! Well I did have to hold on to my youngest son's blanket as he was going into the Navy. My middle son, like to smell one of the corners of his blanket. They'd kill me if they knew I was spilling the beans...
ReplyDeleteMore precious than gold!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a blessed Palm Sunday. Prayers for Sam.
ReplyDeleteI have one grand who I have made three blankets for over the years...security for sure! I enjoy making them and knowing that someday they will be well loved:)
ReplyDeleteHow amazing it is that Mylee has hung on to her Pink Bwank Bwank all these years! This brought back memories of my blanket that I called my "B." Oh, and the travels this blanket has experienced is beyond what many of us could only hope for. Praying that God grants Sam healing, recovery and the peaceful rest that you both need at this time, Shug.
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely post. Continued prayers for Sam and you. ❤️
ReplyDeleteAnother great post, thanks. Many smiles...and keeping Sam in prayer.
ReplyDeletePraying for Sam and for you all.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Very sweet!
ReplyDeleteSending love and hugs. So sorry things have been exhausting for Sam.
ReplyDeleteAww! That is sweet to read about the blanket. My 18 year old has one that she's had from being a baby and won't part with it, hers is banky.
Oh yes, indeed ... the small quiet ways of love ... the hug from my granddaughter at church yesterday, the sharing of life stories with our son and daughter in law, Snoozing in the recliner as I "Watched Nascar Racing" with my Hubby, and going to the most amazing Year End Program at Eden Christian Academy where our Granddaughter Amanda teaches 1st grade. These activities are much like Mylee's much loved blanket. Warm and snuggly memories wrapped around my heart.
ReplyDeleteContinuing to pray for that man of yours and the upcoming appointment.
Hugs
Sue
One of my granddaughters (now married and the mom of 3 little boys) still has her blankie ("Didi") that one of her mom's friends made for her when she was a baby. It was a red backed quilt, and though it got really tattered over the years and had to be repaired several times, she still takes it with her everywhere she travels to.
