If you love potatoes, then Ireland is the place you need to visit. There was some type of potatoes served with almost every meal.....
Every meal we had felt like a warm hug, and I will say that the warmth lingered long after we left the table. Our tummies were full. I enjoyed the experience that went along with the visit to our different country.
Our meals were filled with hearty beef stew. Beef stew was served at every restaurant we ate at. Rich, slow-cooked beef, tender carrots and a thick savory gravy. YUM! A big bowl of stew and in the middle was a huge spoon full of mashed potatoes.
Other meals were full of beef pot pie...very similar to the beef stew with the exception of having a crispy crust surrounding the stew. One thing that I thought was very interesting was that our breakfast meals were all served with baked beans!! Never, have I heard of baked beans being a breakfast food.
SWEET TREATS and BAKERY WINDOWS...
I could have stood in front of those windows all day. Rows and rows of beautiful donuts...chocolate covered, cream filled, topped with crumbs, drizzle and all kinds of pure goodness. They all looked like a piece of art!! I did indulge in a Blueberry donut and it was delicious!!
Then came the HOT TEA and lots of Cozy Moments. We all enjoyed the hot comforting tea...along with sweet cream and a sugar cube OR TWO!! And the scones were like a little slice of heaven. They were soft, crumbly, slightly sweet, and perfect with a touch of butter and jam. Ours had berries tucked inside and every single bite was bursting with flavor.
Goodness... a warm scone paired with the Hot Tea....these were moments that we never rushed. We had several opportunities to just sit and talk while soaking up all of the goodness.
I cannot leave off the bread pudding...It was so warm and rich and drizzled with a buttery sauce that left my tummy full of love. It was indulgent in the best way and was the kind of dessert that you do not want to go away.
Every meal seemed to invite us to sit longer and we took advantage of this many times. The only food that I did not like was "Chocolate Pudding" which is a breakfast food. If you've never heard of it, you must google this and take a look at the ingredients included in a slice of chocolate pudding. It was not for me!!
These foods are still lingering in my mind and I am sure that I will attempt to make the beef stew in the days ahead. I enjoyed discovering a culture through its food...it for sure opens your eyes and warms your heart and it reminded me just how wonderfully diverse this world truly is.
I'll leave you all with this short video. Enjoy...

This looks so good!! Especially the stew and pot pie. I sure hope you will give us the recipe when you manage to replicate it. I never heard of beans or chocolate pudding for breakfast. It does not sound good. I love Step Dancing, especially Riverdance. Is this group in a restaurant? That is so cool! Prayers always for Sam, please let me know the results as soon as you can.
ReplyDeleteYou're making me hungry! I do love potatoes and have never seen them served with beef stew, but it does sound good.
ReplyDeletePraying all goes well for you and Sam today.
I loved the video, Shug, and now I want to make beef stew, too! Prayers lifted for Sam and for you, dear friend.
ReplyDeleteShug, that beef stew looks amazing. And even better with a spoon full of mashed potatoes on the side. That bakery with all the goodies looks so charming. I could have stayed in there for a long time. And look at you with that blueberry donut. That looks so Yummy. That bread pudding looks really good too. The short video was delightful, and it was fun seeing the dance to the Irish music. Take care today on Sam's test day. I will see you soon, dear Shug.
ReplyDeleteIt all looks very good. I'm surprised no lamb. I dont eat lamb.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to what was in the pudding? I did look at ingredients but perhaps the recipes I looked at weren't authentic - looked normal except for the Bailey's Irish creme... Was that it?
Chocolate pudding for breakfast is a new one to me, but the rest is pretty standard. I'm glad you enjoyed it all.
ReplyDeleteI have been praying for Sam's appointment today...praying for you too.
ReplyDeleteYour trip to Ireland would have put the pounds on me. You were eating all of my favorites. A good rich beef stew makes my mouth water. At $10.00 a pound for beef stew meat we haven't had any for a very long time.
California has raised the cattle prices along with everything else (gas at $5.65 up to 6.75 now) can't afford to eat or go anywhere ... so I guess we will have to keep working in the backyard and eating chicken casseroles (which by the way was a really yummy concoction last night for dinner)
Those scones made my mouth water ...yumm
Sue
This was so fun to read and had my mouth watering! Ireland is absolutely on my bucket list one day. Everything you described sounded so cozy and tasty. And I'm a potato girlie 100% - so I'm all in there. I think Europe as a whole is so much better with taking their time at meals and lingering and making it a true experience. Loved the video and Irish dancer too. What wonderful memories the food and the company made. Prayers all is well with Sam's appointment. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhen I searched Google for Irish chocolate pudding for breakfast it referred me to 'black and white' pudding, which it described as fried slices of black pudding (blood sausage) and white pudding (pork/oatmeal sausage), often served with bacon (rashers) and eggs. If that is what you were referring to I think I would have passed.
ReplyDeleteOh, that Beef Stew looks SO good, and yes! I have put it over mashed potatoes before. I would love the pot pie as well...anything with crust! I'm afraid after eating all that food I would not be able to get back on the plane to come home. they'd have to squeeeeeze me in my seat! LOL. Yes, I know in England they serve baked beans for breakfast. I guess it's British/Irish thing. I'll have to look up the chocolate pudding. Now, I would love some good bread pudding. I've been saving my crusts in the freezer from my cinnamon raisin bread that I eat for breakfast a lot, thinking I will use them to make some bread pudding some day. And the hot tea and scones...OH, how delightful. I just can't eat all that much sugar anymore, so I'm afraid I wouldn't have survived this trip. LOL. Praying for Sam today and you. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteI love beef stew and would like to have either or both, the pie stew or the tater stew... so much good food and love the river dance at the end. I do love to watch Irish dancing.
ReplyDeleteSign me up for some hot tea and cozy moments. Never met a spud I didn't like.
ReplyDeleteIs that you dancing?
ReplyDeletePraying for Sam and all of you. God bless.
Oh wow! That beef stew looks amazing and it is something that needs to go with mashed potato!
ReplyDeleteBaked beans is a breakfast food here in the UK but they can be eaten with any meal too. lol I would feel offended if I didn't get them on a cooked breakfast! hehehe
Yum to the sweet treats!
Beautiful photos. The stew looks scrumptious 😋
ReplyDeleteOh Shug, you've got my mouth watering! I'd heard (can't recall where) that traditional Irish stew is made with lamb, so I was mighty happy to read where yours was beef. (Not that I've any plans to travel, lol.) That video is delightful!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks and sounds so good. I could go for one of those blueberry donuts. I think I would have gained 20 pounds on that trip
ReplyDeleteI do pray that things went well for Sam today and that the therapy he's been doing has shrunk the tumors in his lungs and liver.
ReplyDeleteYour food photos from Ireland are so appetizing. Baked beans for breakfast are a common thing in that part of the world. It's definitely a part of a traditional "English breakfast".
I do love potatoes, and those donuts look amazing. Your post reminded me that back in the day I used to love bread pudding too. I haven't had any for a really long time, but now I'm wanting to find a recipe and make some.
ReplyDeletePraying Sam got an encouraging report on his tests today.
I love potatoes and especially with some sort of tomato sauce. It's exciting to hear about your trip to Ireland and all the wonderful food. Your photos are great. Can't wait for more.
ReplyDeleteI hope the news was good today. Still sending love, hugs, and prayers. ❤️
ReplyDeleteWhile I doubt I will ever get there, Ireland is one place that I would like to visit. Especially when they have donuts like that!!!!
