Wondering Post

 A Little Lady "Wondering Post".....

👗..🎀..👜..👠..👓..👙..💐..👛..💋..💅..

I was sitting here the other day, looking at my hands (as one does), and I started thinking about all the little "lady things" we do....or don't do...or wish we did more of.  I thought..."I bet my blogging friends are all over the map on this!"

So, today's post is more like a fun round of questions.

Nails:  Salon nails or at-home manicure?  Polished nails or natural?

Hair:  Do you color your hair?  Do you go to the salon? Do you prefer doing your own hair?

Skin:  Facials? Botox? Good moisturizer and moving on?

Cosmetics:  Big brand cosmetics? What ever you can find? Dedicated to what you've always used? NO make up at all?

Closet:  Name brands, bargains, thrifting, or a mix?

Shoes:  How many pairs do you think you own...and how many do you admit to having?  house shoes? Dress shoes? Boots? Flip Flops? Crocs? Tennis shoes?  Other?

What is your favorite type of shoe to wear?

Toes:  Do you go to a salon for a good pedicure? Self pedicure?  Do you keep your piggies flip flop ready?

Here are my answers:

Nails:  Natural.  I do love polished nails but rarely do I use any color on them.  My nails are not strong and they do not grow well.  (Blaming it on thyroid issues)

Hair:  I do go to the salon every 5 weeks and I do get highlights...Right now, my hair is darker, but I do keep the grey covered up.

Skin:  I do take care of my skin...I love a good facial and for this reason I go to a skin care esthetician for my facials.  I usually go every 3 months. I have Dry skin!

Cosmetics: When I'm at home during the day, moisturizer and sun screen is all I use. Stepping out, I use all kinds of makeup..mostly things my daughters recommend.  Cheap ✔

Closet: My closet is FULL.  I mostly wear comfy clothes around the house. Comfy as in COMFY leggings or sweat pants and a loose top. Comfy enough that if I do go to grocery store or the Post Office, I have to change into something presentable.   I shop sales.  I shop local boutiques, TJ Max, online, and occasionally Walmart.

Shoes:  This is a different story!!  I ❤️❤️❤️ Shoes!!  I do shop for good, comfy shoes because I DO NOT like for my feet to hurt. How many pairs of shoes do I own?  2-many! For real, I have a closet full of shoes.  My favorite shoes...flip flops, tennis shoes, ALL SHOES!

Toes:  I go to the salon for my pedicures!  The truth is, I can't see well enough to polish my toes and because.. I simply enjoy a nice warm pedicure.  My toes are always flip flop ready.

.....  At the end of the day, whether our nails are perfectly polished or chipped from washing dishes, whether our hair is salon-fresh or pulled up in a claw clip, whether our closet holds designer labels or sweet clearance finds...what matters is our happiness.

We can be a little sassy.  We can be a shoe lover with boxes stacked high, a thrift queen who can spot a treasure  from three aisles away, or a master gardener with dirt under our nails and sunshine in our hair.. but what matters most is the heart behind it all.  The kindness we give. The laughter we share. The peace we carry into a room...these are the things that compliments us the most.

Trends fade, heels scuff, highlights grow out, but a woman who loves well and lives with grace?  This kind of beauty never goes out of style.

I had fun writing this "Wondering" post and I hope you all enjoy it!!  Just for fun!!

Shug...💄

  2. Thanks for the tip in The Toon, I think I will use Tape not clips on my wrinkles.
The thing is, my answer now at 81 is different that when I was all different ages, at 18 I spent my entire pay check on clothes and SHOES, the higher the better, height I mean.
Never bought brands because I had no money. but would if could. I will answer NOW
No make up unless I go to a funeral or out to eat, cheap from Walmart makeup, Powder only if I go to doctor, Walmart. don't shop now, it comes to me. all my clothes came from Walmart, Penny's for the last 40 years and Catherrines for large sizes
never died my hair but once, it SAID it would wash away ONLY gray, I looked like I had a MINK on my head.. that was in 2006 when I retired.
never had a pedicure/manicure, did it myself, now I am all natural. my midlife years never went out of the house without makeup.. life changes.. if I can find a post about shoes will send it to you.. I LOVE SHOES but now can't wear them and have nothing but walking shoes 2 pairs and a few sandals

  3. I enjoyed the post a lot, Shug. I used to have highlights put in my hair, but let my hair grow out during Covid. Who was going to see my roots anyway? I've gotten used to the gray hairs that have appeared with regularity, and I do like my hair being longer in length. Thanks for making me smile today!

  4. I enjoyed reading your answers to these questions. Nails...I'm a bit like you...mine aren't strong and have a habit of splitting, so I use a strengthening clear nail polish. Hair...no color (and I'm not completely gray yet) but I do go every four weeks to keep my hair trimmed and also, I have started doing a DIY shampoo to try and repair some of the damage caused by industrial shampoos. Skin...I definitely take care of skin with my face wash and moisturizer with sunscreen in it, and body lotion. None of the products are super expensive, but they do work well for my skin. Cosmetics...I don't use. Closet...I've recently pared down my wardrobe to the things that I DO wear, and it makes getting dressed in the morning very easy. Shoes...now you have me there...lol I also recently pared down the shoes that I no longer wear. I've reached the stage in life if it isn't comfortable it doesn't belong in my closet. So, I'd say there are probably around 12 pairs. Oh...and toes...my hubby does my pedicure. Have a good day, Shug.

  5. I can't bear anyone touching my feet so I have to do my own pedicures, which only happens during sandals weather.
If I am leaving the house, I have on makeup, but at home I am a moisturizer gal only.
    Clothes and shoes? too many

  6. Fun questions!
I used to have regular manicures but stopped when I retired and now am just natural.
Hair - I do color it. I don't have much gray yet, mostly around the temples but I'm not ready to see it all the time. I get it cut every 5 weeks and colored every 10 weeks.
I use a moisturizer with sun screen in it. My cosmetics aren't expensive, just stuff from the drug store like Maybelline.
I like comfy clothes too, but have nicer stuff for going out.
Shoes - I love a good pair of shoes. They have to fit well so my feet don't hurt! I cleaned out my shoes last fall, but I do need to do it again.

  7. Oh Shug, I just loved everything about this post, what can I say? I'll start with my answers, but I'll keep it short, as you have many to read.

*I bite my nails sometimes, so I love to see pretty polished nails. But I don't like long long nails; that looks freaky to me. Mine are natural, cause they would break off anyways with all the work I do around here.

*Yes, I color my own hair, but only about every three to four months. Fortunately, I only have grey on the roots, but I do the whole thing.....and my hair is long!

*I'm glad to have gotten my mother's skin. I don't have to use moisturizers, etc. But sometimes I will put on Oil of Olay, and it always livens my face up.

*I use an expensive foundation, Clinique, but I don't wear it all the time, just occasionally, and the eye liner and lip gloss I just buy at Target or other stores that carry it.

*I have always LOVED clothes! and I get my blouses from Macy's, Kohl's, Target, and the little boutique up here. But I won't buy clothes from a thrift shop, only because I'm weird about that haha. I sometimes even buy blouses on-line if they are cute.

*I only have a few pair of shoes, and they are the ones needed for mountain living, tennis shoes, boots, rain boots, sandals in the summer, and Yes, always a pair of flip flops!

*No pedicures for me. But I have painted them from time to time. ; )

As you can see, I'm pretty much of an all natural gal. I don't like a lot of anything, cause it looks either fake or not right on me. But I do love to shop for clothes and jewelry, which has always been my thing..... when I was younger, and even now.

What you said about trends fade and a woman who loves well. Those words were so special, Shug, and so true. Honestly, women who have love in their hearts are the most lovely of all.

  8. Hi Shug,
This was fun ... fun to learn more about you.
I do not get my nails done, because I am a gardener. Hee Hee ... I bet you can guess why.... I cannot wear gloves gardening. I have tried, but I just cannot do it. I have to feel the soil. ;-)

In 2018 I started to let me hair go natural. It was not easy to do. I cried many times, but in the end I am so thankful I did it. I receive so many comments on my silver hair. Many ask if I dyed it that way. Hee Hee!

  9. I’m a complete bust, I’m afraid. I do my own hair and nails, wear simple shirts and pants, walking shoes, etc. No hair coloring or makeup or nail polish. I eat nutritious food and exercise every day and spend the rest of the time on things that are meaningful to me and make me happy. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but it works for me. 😊❤️

  10. I loathe going to the hairdresser, so just chop lumps off now and then. I do need to have it properly cut, though, to get it back into shape. I stopped colouring it years ago, but used to have it done, at great expense, then decided it was time to be honest.😊I have had professional manicures now and then but not for some years as I don't really like being touched by people I don't know. Weird, I know. i buy good clothes and shoes and use a good face cream. I hardly ever wear make-up.

  11. This post is fun! Nails - I am a BITER! At times I even make them bleed. I love buying all kinds of pretty nail polish colors, but it seems no use. Get my hair cut every other month and that is all. I have to go to a podiatrist because I cannot bend my knees enough to reach my toes now. Thank goodness Medicare pays for it! I have a full closet and love clothes shopping at T.J. Maxx, Ross, and Goodwill.

  12. Love all of your answers. I'm pretty much a "What you see is what you get" kind of gal.
Hate people touching my toes so I do that myself. Having bunions has cancelled out high heels and I mainly wear sketchers and sketcher sandals in the summer. I wear a tinted lip balm and that's about it.
Due to the cost I have been doing my own hair cuts for the last year or so. Someday when my "ship comes in" I will go to the salon and have things done properly.

  13. thecontemplativecat here. Your questions are awesome. I don't get manicures, but do get pedicures. I go to Jenny, my favorite ever hair stylist and get color over my gray as well. I let it go natural once, but my 6 yr. old granddaughters told me that I was way old (bigger than a house old) the day I turned 60. Got it colored the next day. clothes? I need to sort and toss. I have been ill ( Parkinson's), having trouble eating. Lost 20 lbs and now things are too big. Shoes are pretty simple . There are three pair I wear mostly, with a few pairs that have dust on them. The 3 are super comfortable, support and look good. My skin is very good. I have taken good care of it for 40 yrs. now. the only cleaning brand I use is Olay. Wrinkles are less than other women my age, but who knows how long that will last? good post.

  14. My hair color is natural. I used to have hair down to my waist but cut it off in 2019 and in doing so discovered I had curly hair and it was a silver color. I certainly didn't want to mess with that. My hair is a bit longer now, but still considered short - I notice my natural blonde is on top and underneath it is a silver gray. I paint my own fingernails and go to get a pedicure - I'm always ready to be barefootin. I am no longer the clothes horse that I used to be in my younger years. In fact, my husband and I changed closets - I took the smaller one because I tend to be a minimalist - my exception are shoes. I do have a shoe for every type of event and season. But still not enough where it makes my closet full. Shoes as we get older, should be a better quality. I want comfort. As for brand names etc - I don't care. Makeup? Mascara. but when I go out I like to look put together. I got all of this from my mom, who was quite the fashionable, well put together San Franciscan. I think that is it...

    Fun post.

  15. I paint my nails at home usually about once a week and I dye my own hair about every 6 weeks. I would love to get it professionally done but it would cost a small fortune as my hair is bright pink. lol
I use some products on my skin but nothing too expensive and usually I get my make up from the pound shop because I don't wear it often enough to spend big bucks on it. Most of my clothes and shoes come from Shein or Temu. I am all for a bargain and I have about 4 pairs of shoes and boots. I've never had a pedicure, my feet are so ticklish. I do paint my toe nails if I wear sandals which isn't very often.

  16. I am low maintenance! I do my own nails...no polish. I do use a moisturizer on my face. I threw all my makeup away...I use carmex on my chapped lips:) Crocs I have them in all colors and I embrace my grey as well earned. Clothing Walmart works for me or Woman Within!

  17. I like the new look of your blog, Shug! I always go for pedicures...my hair is natural color now - so just cut and trims but no color needed!

    ReplyDelete
  18. PS; I do get spa pedis several times a year though ;)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I've had a lot of fun Carrie, reading everyone's answers. I do love a good pedi and I love wearing flip flops, so for this reason, I go as often as I can to the salon. I think I have a ridiculous problem with how many shoes I have..I'm going to have to do better.

  20. Fun post! I'd be greatly ashamed for any of you to see my hands -- nails breaking, sometimes into the bed itself. Oh, I used to subscribe to regular manicures and monthly precision hair cuts/color -- but that all went by the way when we retired. These days when I get discouraged by the looks of my white hair, I just massage some Fanci-Full 'golden spell' rinse onto my head and I'm good for another week. I'd love to have a facial someday, but alas, I'm too scotch.

  21. What a fun post. I'm very low maintenance so I don't get nails, hair, skin or anything else done My closet is filled with inexpensive clothes but I do have way too many shoes. I couldn't even guess how many I have.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't spend money on manicures, but I treat myself to vacation or special event pedicures. My hair color is what God has given me, and I get it cut at Great Clips. I gave up makeup during the pandemic. Most of my clothes come from thrift stores, but I get compliments right and left. I have fewer shoes than I used to, mainly because my old lady feet only like expensive shoes.

  23. I loved this Shug - I read all your answers and most everyone else's. I think you learn a lot about other people from reading answers.
I get a manicure and pedicure every couple of months. I don't polish the nails or have fake nails. I like them short as they drive me nuts. I get a haircut and color every six weeks. My color is all over the place. Last time I had blonde highlights, brown lowlights, with some red highlights. I always wear a sunscreen and moisturizer from Origins. My make up is Bare Minerals. I wear Vionic shoes that have good inserts to help me walk better. Jeans and tees are my uniform!

  24. My closet is a mix of whatever I find that I like! I do cover my gray hair and do my own nails, hands and feet! lol I do a good skin care routine and use plenty of sunscreen. This was a fun post :)
