The view out my window today is so pure looking...so white....and so pretty.
We still have ICE on the trees and ice on the ground. The world in my area is frozen in place today. This white ice is shiny and very slick and I think it looks very peaceful, yet I know it is quietly daring anyone to take a step onto it. NOT ME!!
Schools are closed as Mother Nature has officially taken over the schedule for today and most likely for tomorrow.
I somehow knew that MJ would be out exploring the ice.
I have to laugh a bit....because in our area this ice storm is a little amusing. We prepare like pioneers, checking the power, watching the roads, peeking out the window every thirty minutes as if the ice might just suddenly apologize and leave. And then there is the power of HOT CHOCOLATE!! Oh goodness, it taste so much better when you are wrapped up in a blanket with your PJ's on, watching the sleet as it falls. This kind of cold gives cocoa a brand new purpose.
My inspiration for the day could be compared to a cup of this deep goodness we call Hot Chocolate. Life has icy seasons too...days that feel hard, very slippery and very inconvenient. But....those are often moments that teach us to stop...to savor warmth...to notice what truly soothes our soul. The very word of GOD meets us in these icy seasons of life and scripture becomes warmth to our hands.
I rarely rush through a cup of hot cocoa...I sip it and savor the warmth as it melts the chill in my body. This is the way God invites us to feel as we read His word. Comfort and Peace is there and it can warm our hearts right where we are. I am super thankful for this kind of warmth that carries me through.
I know many of you deal with this kind of weather for months at a time. I sure admire you all for the strengths you have and for your perseverance as you go through the cold winters.
I do know one thing...this cold sure makes me want to eat. Trista and I made a pot of Potato soup last evening and served it with garlic cheese toast. AND, we also made a double batch of chocolate chip, pecan cookies. Seems like all we have done is cook and eat. lol.
Can you believe it?? Y'all have an awesome day..
Shug...💙

You are wise not to venture out. It looks so beautiful, but can be so treacherous.
ReplyDeleteI'm so very happy that you didn't lose your power, Shug. We didn't either, but it's colder than it's been for a long time here. We are staying put, and you are wise to do the same. Enjoy your hot chocolate!
ReplyDeleteThe icy morning is so pretty, Shug. Yes, I'm one that can get snow up here until April, but it's been pretty mild. February we are supposed to get snow, and I'll be out there shoveling and talking with the neighbors and playing with it a little. Love the picture of Mylee, and all the pics of red against white. That little red cardinal is cute with the most special saying. And the hot chocolate looks so Yummy. I know what you mean, we always seem to be cooking and baking when it's cold outside. I guess it's the warmth of the kitchen. And your chocolate chip pecan cookies look amazing, by the way. Enjoy your icy day, and I'll be back to see if you got any snow!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're enjoying this storm with Sam and Trista! It really can be a fun adventure. Our son and DIL live in KY, on the border of TN and were really hit by ice too. Everything is closed and they are enjoying a day in.
ReplyDeleteYes - this does make you want to cook! Just stay warm and enjoy!
Hello Shug, oh my you made me laugh when you said you just want to eat during this cold.
ReplyDeleteI made gingersnap cookies and a pecan pie. Keeping the house warm and smelling good with the good treats.
We have another day of awful cold, then we will slowly warm up.
Love and prayers,
Carla
Have a wonderful day! ❤️
ReplyDeleteYes, the colder it gets, the hungrier I am. And that cookie looks so good! your window itself is gorgeous. And the white ice looks bedazzled! What is this icy photo with the spout of water shooting out?
ReplyDeleteI love your perspective on the weather! And I enjoy my hot chocolate the same way, one slow sip at a time. Prayers continue to for you and Sam....and that cookie looks DELICIOUS! xx
ReplyDeleteYour ice photos are so pretty! The ice is no joke and such a bear to deal with - but it is pretty:) I have not had a cup of hot chocolate in ages...but you sure did make it sound like a good idea! With some of those yummy cookies!
ReplyDeleteShug ... You are talking my Love Language. Hot Chocolate, Potato Soup and Cookies !!!
ReplyDeleteWhat could be better? Nada...
Wow, that's some ice storm. I'm glad you can be inside all safe and cozy. Love the picture of MJ in her red.
I do love your analogy and offering His Words of comfort and peace.
(((hugs)))
Sue
Stay warm and be careful walking on the ice!
ReplyDeleteShug, you aren't kidding about the weather making me want to eat! All I've done for 3 days is cook and eat! I guess this is truly what hibernating feels like :) The sun better come out and give us back our flip-flop weather. Enough of this cold and wet stuff.
ReplyDeleteI think I would be staying indoors too. Ice is horrible and so dangerous! Enjoy your hot chocolate and stay warm!
ReplyDeleteLike Sue said, you're talking my Love Language. Halfway through reading, I went to make sure we've hot chocolate mix. I do believe it has medicinal properties!
ReplyDeleteIs that first photograph your front door? I would love to have something like that!
We have snow.. and a lot of it. Nothing like snow paired with some cookies and hot chocolate.
ReplyDeleteIt is the same here in central KY. Snow was the forecast, but it was mostly ice. Cooking, baking and staying indoors is the rule for the rest of this week!
ReplyDeleteWe got every inch they predicted would fall and more, I think the total came in somewhere around 19"...and yes, we did eat! A LOT! Haha! Over the weekend I made sausage and peppers, burgers, a squash pie, beef stew, I roasted a chicken and made lemon bars!! I didn't want to hear anyone say, I'm hungry and there's nothing to eat! The one thing I didn't have was hot chocolate, but maybe I should have some now!
ReplyDeleteI made some chicken and dumplings yesterday and my husband made a pot of pinto beans a couple of days ago. I always want to cook when the weather is like this. We have that same star window in our front door!
