What speaks of Winter? A cold, rainy day, and this is exactly what we had yesterday. Guess what? I loved every minute of it....even when I had to go to the grocery store for a few items. I hopped out of my car and took off running (like a jack rabbit in a race) and I was only a teeny tiny wet as I entered the store.
This mornings temp!
I knew the cold weather would eventually get here. How long will it stay? I'm sure the Texas meteorologist do not even have a clue. By the end of the week the forecast calls for us being in the mid 60's.
Anyways, I've been looking for an electric blanket. I had to send our old one to the trash sometime back in the Spring. Can we talk about electric blankets for a minute? Somewhere along the way, they've become harder to find. I don't know if they are being phased out but I do know they are difficult to find.
I caved and bought one of the new heated mattress covers yesterday. And...Boy does this thing work. We climbed into a warm bed and by 11:15 last night, I had to turn it off. We were a little too warm. Winter is coming... I need to stay warm... and it seems that I have found the answer.
Of course, we do sleep with a ceiling fan as well as a box fan. It's the noise!! I love the noise coming from the box fan. Nothing like crawling into a warm comfy bed, with a buzzing fan running right beside you.
When I woke up this morning, I had an email from UT Southwestern Medical. (sent to me overnight) The message was letting us know that Sam has a 7:15 appointment this morning for his first IV transfusion. WELL. . . . This was the first message we had received of any kind about the appointment. WE live 2 hours away from the cancer center, so obviously we are not going to make it. Worrisome? Yes, but this too will work out.
as I sit here reading this, our AC is blowing. Our part of FL is having heat not cold, we had a 10 day cool spell that was wonderful but nothing to need an electric blanket. the one you got sounds perfect for cold climates. when we lived in KY I slept in the attic that was divided into 3 rooms. when we woke up each morning there was ICE on the inside of the windows.. no electric blanket, but my grandmother gave me a quilt she made and it was so heavy I could barely turn over when under it, but with flannel pj's and that quit I was toasty warm.. I can't sleep well if I am cold or hot.. or if the dog is sick or if the husband is sick. Just Sayin!

Your comment brought back memories for me. When I was younger we had a propane heater that kept the house warm (living and kitchen) The bedrooms were still cold. My sister and I would sleep together and it was so cold when we first climbed into bed, but we managed to keep each other warm..

ReplyDeleteI'd not seen those heated mattress pads before but what a super idea! A few years ago I bought one of those oversize (blanket-size) heating pads for Tom who sleeps in the recliner. Unfortunately, not only is it bulky as all get-out, he claims it never gets warm enough. So far this year the 71* thermostat setting keeps him comfortable.

We had one of those as well, but now days, Sam is so cold. Of course, his blood count and platelet count is low. This thing really works and it has duel controls...this is great.

They called me just a bit ago and said we missed our appointment. Lots of talk went on and they apologized for someone goofing up.

ReplyDeleteWinter is definitely here. I headed out for work this morning and by the time I should have been there I was only half way. I gave up, turned around and came back home. Parked on the couch and slept til 12:30
ReplyDeleteI had just decided to ask about the infusions, and now I see your update. Darn, a predicament for sure. How many and how long will he have to have them? Please let me know what happens. Here, our university hospital has extensions, so you don't have to travel all the way there for some things, like kidney dialysis and such.

ReplyDeleteBrrr ... I understand that bone chilling cold. It took us forever to warm up after our garage sale. Glad that dual control mattress pad is a welcome addition to a good nights sleep.

I think I could use another cup of coffee to charge me up for my trip to Walmart. Wish I didn't have to go but it really is a necessity.

We had one of those mattress heating pads a long time ago and yes we enjoyed it too! Hope they get Sam's infusion scheduled. Someone dropped the ball as they should have called you!
ReplyDeleteI bought a heated throw blanket and it is wonderful. A goose down duvet stays on my bed with some flannel sheets :) Praying for you and Sam. And, as you say, the hospital appointment will work itself out.

ReplyDeleteYes!! I agree, those heated blankets are hard to find. I have one that needs to be retired, but I can't seem to find a replacement. I hadn't heard of heated mattress pads. I might have to check that out!! Thanks for the tip...and I do hope the scheduling gets easier...
