Let's Talk Turkey!! 🦃🦃🦃
One minute we are carving pumpkins, the next, we're trying to wrestle a big turkey.
So, lets talk Turkey. Literally, figuratively...Emotionally and spiritually.
Step One: The Turkey crisis
If you haven't bought your turkey yet, may the odds be ever in your favor. Just kidding, Turkeys are everywhere right now! And, the cost of my favorite Smoked Turkey is really high this year. $75.00 for a 8 pound turkey.
Turkey is what I call the "Diva" of the meal.
Step Two: The menu that keeps growing.
I think we all know how this goes. I plan to keep it simple this year and then five minutes later...My list begins to grow. We need dressing, mac and cheese, deviled eggs, rolls, sweet pot, green beans, cranberry sauce, gravy, fruit salad, corn and desserts..several desserts.
My Thanksgiving menu multiplies like bunnies. I now have a spreadsheet!
Step Three: The family Factor.
LOL. the moment that cousin Betty arrives with her version of the dressing. Naw... we only have 7 of us coming for dinner this year. Aunt Betty will not be here, nor will Uncle Danny, who always starts his conversions with "Back in my day!"
Step Four: Things you don't expect.
Did I forget to buy the cranberry sauce?
Did I buy dessert plates?
Did I remember to let the rolls rise in time.
It's tradition to either burn something or forget something..
Step Five: The real heart of it.
As much as I joke and as wild as the kitchen gets, and as exhausting I get in making sure the TURKEY is good,
THANKSGIVING WHISPERS SOMETHING SOFT INTO MY HEART. ALWAYS.
I love looking around at my table...seeing the beautiful faces that I love. I love the funny stories that we share each year and the blessings that we hold quietly in our hearts. I also love the warmth that fills our home by having my family around me.
I can't wait!! Come on Mr. Turkey!!
I just sent all of this ↑↑↑↑ out the door with Mylee. Warm Banana Bread muffins and Warm Homemade Mac and Cheese. She and her friends are having "Friendsgiving" today.
Hope they have the best meal and the best time...
Our house is already smelling so good.
Wishing you all a wonderful Sunday and sending much love to each of you.
Shug.

You are such a good Grandma! Mylee and friends will love it.
ReplyDeleteShe sent me a message just a bit ago and said the girls loved the food.

Delete"...my favorite Smoked Turkey is really high this year. $75.00 for a 8 pound turkey."
ReplyDeleteI simply must know what kind of turkey that is, Shug! It must be delicious...and hand delivered by royal minions on horseback? 😂
This is a Greenberg smoked turkey. I passed on buying one this year. It was on Oprah's favorite list a few years ago. This business is only 10 miles away from me....and the turkeys are so good...but I did pass.
DeleteThey must be good!
DeleteI know your Thanksgiving will be filled with food, joy and laughter this season. I feel sure you won't forget a thing. Blessings always, Shug!
ReplyDeleteHope you and your family enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving week..
DeleteThe chaos is often the most fun. How nice of you to send food with Mylee. My daughter in law posted yesterday about a friendsgiving party they went to
ReplyDeleteHer parents are on a trip so I was next in line to take care of the food...lol
DeleteI hope your Thanksgiving goes well. Thank you again for the updates, I’ve been checking every day and am sending prayers and love. 🙏❤️
ReplyDeleteThank you so much..I am trying to feel encouraged about our appointment tomorrow.. Keeping my thoughts focused on the good.
DeleteThere will only be three of us for Thanksgiving, but I'm committed to having turkey and all of the side dishes by making small quantities of each.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Kathy...It's not all about the numbers, it's about the love.
DeleteAw, Mylee Jo has the best grandma!
ReplyDeleteYour menu might terrify this NON kitchen diva, but I've a sneaking suspicion it's what you love doing. I've no doubt your home's holiday aromas on Thursday morning will be positively intoxicating.
thank you!! I try to be the best grandmother (shug) that I can be. I am excited about this years Thanksgiving and hopefully my menu will be tasty to my kiddos.
DeleteThanks Shug, Sound's like a momma's heart for the Holiday feast! Made me smile!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I know you will be counting your blessings,
Hugs, Roxy
Gee, I think I want to come to your house for Thanksgiving. It all sounds delicious. My local grocery store gave away free turkeys if you spent $125 or more. The husband and I will go tomorrow and bag that free bird 🦃 but it will be for Christmas! We're having lasagna with just two of the adult kids joining us on Thursday - because my daughter in law was scheduled at the hospital. So Friday is our family Thanksgiving feast at their home. I'm looking forward to this family time and even Laydee is invited!
ReplyDeleteI admire your positive, upbeat attitude during what is a hard time and how you are able to navigate it all, with a sense of hope and joy, which is grounded in the unchanging love and grace of God. Many prayers for tomorrow.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, dear Shug.
ReplyDeleteWow, that is one expensive turkey. But then it will feed a lot of people. I do not think I could be so upbeat with so much to do!! You amaze me.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteyour TG menu is exactly what my mother did. I have never cooked a turkey. I would buy all the food and mother did all the cooking, and my brother and his family and my family would go wipe out the menu. when I moved here, Bob wanted a turkey and I said then you will have to cook it. He had never cooked one either, until 2006 he cooked the turkey and I did the rest but I bought the desserts and the yeast rolls. since 2006 we have eaten out, no one here to come to dinner
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't be a family gathering if something were not forgotten. However simple one tries to keep it, it grows and develops . . .
ReplyDeleteTurkey has always been my least favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal. I'm just a big turkey fan and I only really eat white meat. 7 of you around the table sounds lovely. At a minimum, I believe there will be 20 of us. So, no real all sitting around the same table. Everyone brings a dish or two. I always feel like everyone brings too much. We'll have multiples of many things. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to you and Sam.
