 Hodgepodge Wednesday...

"A Hodgepodge of 6 thoughts and 7 smiles"

1. Besides Thanksgiving, something on your November calendar you're looking forward to?

This is a pretty easy one for me....I am so excited about my "Friend Trip" happening tomorrow.

We will be headed out to Branson Mo.  This is a good 8 hour drive for us (One way)...Prayers always appreciated for traveling mercies.

2.  Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh?

I do understand this and I wrote a post about it a few weeks back.  If you have teenage grandchildren and live in Texas, you will know what this 6-7 stands for.  This slang has been here for a while now.

Is it even a word???  I had to consult the internet to find out it's meaning because apparently I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is  it part of yours? According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning driven by social media.

What do you think?

I think the kiddos have had a fun time with this 6-7.  They, themselves have laughed with and at each other....AND at parents who have tried so desperately to understand this slang talk.  The teachers in our area are so tired of it....and since it has been around for a bit, the kids are tired of it as well.  It's kind of like how we used to say "Cool Beans" or "Psyche."  Fun for the younger generation and some what annoying for the older folks.

Dictionary.com says it's selection each year ia a "linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7". Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so.

What word do you think would have made a better choice?

Perhaps I wouldn't give it just one word...maybe a sentence, like......."He could be 6  Hmmm' maybe  7 foot tall.

3.  What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is so-so?

Okay...here I go with this one...  PIERCINGS.  Face piercings particularly.   Yep, I said it!  Maybe I didn't even answer this question correctly cause in my humble opinion, I don't even consider the lip, eyebrow, nose piercings to even be So-So.   I'm not judging here...I'm just saying that I TOTALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS TREND.  But you know what?  To each his own....if this is something that makes your heart sing, then

So-So

4. Are you a Tea drinker? Hot or cold? How do you like yours and at what time of day? Do you like flavored or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc?

Well.....I do live in the South.  This means we drink tea all the time.  Morning, mid morning, lunch, afternoon, dinner, before we go to bed......ANYTIME.

Sweet  Iced tea is a favorite, but I do like hot tea as well.  I actually drink Half and Half tea most of the time.

Half sweet, Half unsweet.

No energizing tea for me.

5.  The November Hodgepodge has always include a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today. What are three things that make your heart sing?

THE GLOW OF OUR HOME!!

MOMENTS THAT REMINDS ME OF WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN LIFE!!

SMALL SEASONAL WONDERS

6. Insert your own Random thought here:

I just told Sam that I don't think I have a random thought....His reply..."I know" and he said it with a laugh.  He knows me too well.

I guess my random thought might be......How long will it take for my body to adjust to this Time Change? I've been waking up around 4:30 and by 8:00 PM.....I am SLEEPY!

Wishing you all a Super Duper...Awesome Day.

  2. Well thanks for the background on 6/7 cuz I'm way out of the young people loop! Our grands are younger. Hope your trip with friends is filled with joy and laughter and some deep conversations, too. God bless your trip there and back again!

  3. Have a safe and enjoyable trip!
I can't imagine being a teacher when things like 6-7 are all the thing. Kids sure do love it though.
I feel so-so about piercings too. I had my ears done when I was a teen but that's it.
Your answers for question number 5 did make me smile.
It took me about a week to adjust to the time change, our clocks changed a week before yours.

  7. Have a great trip!
Young people always like having secrets from us old folks!

  8. I had no idea about the 6-7 thing. Oh I dislike piercings especially around the mouth and eyes...and the tongue...how ever can they stand it or even think it looks attractive. I am just an old fuddy duddy:)

  9. You had me laughing at the end with Sam's response. :)
The 6-7 thing is crazy, I sure don't get it, but then I'm old.
I'm with you on face piercings.
    Have fun on your getaway!

  10. I agree with you about piercings. And some seem to be in the most painful places! I hope you have a GREAT time!!

  11. Facial piercings ugh ! I don't know how they can stand having it done. I do have my ears pierced but that's it. I always think about the rings in the nose and colds..the picture in my mind is gross.
Never heard of the 6-7 and I guess its a lot like your examples of sayings that we "older" people use all the time...to each his own.
Your Girl trip is going to be so much fun. Praying for you and your "roommate" while there (:0)

  12. I don't understand this 6-7 thing either, but so true that every generation has their version. Love to read your answers to these kinds of questions each week. Always a lot of fun. Have the most wonderful trip bonding with your Girlies! Try not to get into too much trouble (or do! πŸ˜‰) Prayers for safe travels. πŸ™πŸ»πŸ’—

  16. Yes on the time change difficulties and the body piercings in the strangest of places. Enjoy your trip to Branson. I look forward to reading about it after your return.

  17. That 6 7 is kind of silly, but I guess the kids like it. I agree with the three important things to you. I hope you have a fantastic trip to Branson. Will you be posting? When is Tom's biopsy? Praying. I don't hate many things, but I hate body and face piercing. It makes the face look full of germs in my opinion.

  18. I stopped following pop culture years ago. I believe it was a post by you that explained it. I'm not going to say it's dumb, because when I was a teen we had some sayings we would say that belonged to us and the grownups weren't the wiser. We used to drink colt 45 beer at parties ( is that still around?) so we would say right in front of adults, there would be 45 cans of cold root beer at the party and we all thought that was,so sneaky. Nothing new under the sun.
Tats and face piercings - to each his own. I will say some of the nicest God fearing servants of God are those who have come out of that lifestyle and still show the scars.
Well dear, I pray for a safe drive ( I'm assuming you're driving) on the highways. May you have a wonderful time of sweet fellowship. God bless.

  19. I suppose in November I look forward to all the craft shows that my daughter and I go to. As for the 6 7 thing, I just don't get it

  20. That's an awesome header, Shug!!! I immediately thought about you when I read Joyce's 6-7 question. The only things I can compare it to is (a) a nurse asking about pain: "On a scale from 1-10, what ....?" or, (b) teenage boys commenting on a girl's looks. (How sexist is that? Ha!)
Lifting my prayer right now for your travel mercies. We'll miss you!

  21. Thank you so much for sharing this post, dear Shug. I love your blog header. πŸ’› I hope you πŸ™ have a safe and wonderful time.

  22. Yes to the tea drinking. Both sweet tea and hot tea today :)

  23. I don't like face piercing either, Shug. My ears pierced is enough for me. When Nel lived in Georgia for a couple years, she always loved their sweet tea. I sip on hot tea in the late afternoon, but I have to say that coffee makes my heart smile more. : ) Your answer to number 5 is so special. Thank you for highlighting in yellow. It was so much easier to read with my tired eyes. Oh, and your Header is so cool, by the way.

  25. I hope the friend trip goes really well. Enjoy every single moment, friend! Branson is such a fun place to visit. I can’t wait to hear what all y’all do there. We went a couple of years ago and it was a fairly easy drive. I loved the part of the drive through the Ozarks. We went after Thanksgiving (so that we could experience Christmas at Silver Dollar City) and the fall color was gorgeous. Safe travels! I don’t get the facial piercings either.

  26. I was thinking I will never understand the trend of Tattoos... I feel the same way about them that you do of nose and lip and tongue piercings, and feel that way about that too. not saying they are wrong, I just don't get why they want them, even beautiful women are not attractive to me with either piercings or tattoos. for some reason I like the ears though

  27. Do you remember back when kids were playing high-pitched sounds on their phones and some teachers couldn't hear it and the other kids could? Then some adults could hear it. It was a big thing here even at the bookstore cafes.
