An Apple-Licious Hodgepodge
Sweet Friends....today is Wednesday, and this means it's time for the Hodgepodge...
Joyce asks the questions.
We Answer he questions.
1. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. How does this saying ring true in your own family, either the one you grew up in or the one you made?
In our case, our daughters have picked up several traits as well as habits from Sam and I. I like to think they we have shared our fun laughs and our kindness with them...there might possibly be a few stubborn streaks that go along with this. I do love how this age old saying reminds us how our influences run deep..our words, our actions, and our love has a way of showing up in the next generation, mostly in beautiful and surprising ways.
2. Something you're nuts about these days? How about something that's driving you nuts?
One thing that drives me nuts is that the stores change seasons way before it is time. We are still having 90 temps and yet the stores are filled with sweaters and coats. I kinda understand but location is important and when your Winter's are barely cool enough for sweaters, then why not try to stock what people need.
Lets see...what am I nuts about right now. The sunsets have been so very pretty and the fresh flowers that I've been buying for our home have been gorgeous... Also...Fresh sheets! I love to crawl into bed with fresh sheets greeting me...
3. What does abundance mean to you?
Living in abundance is seeing life through a lens of gratitude...There is goodness all around us and I enjoy investigating what is to come. Love, JOY, peace are all sweet blessings and I feel that my life is very content in these.
4. Caramel apple-caramel cake - caramel corn - caramel sundae - caramel macchiato.....what's your caramel treat of choice?
When it comes to caramel, is there a favorite? I suppose my very favorite would be caramel pie!! My granny (Bless her heart) was the best at making caramel pies. There was one time that I rode my bike to her house and she had two fresh caramel pies setting on the counter. She could see me eyeing them, but she never offered me a slice...they were for her company that was coming by.
5. What's a childhood memory that always comes to mind as the leaves start to fall?
Playing in the leaves with my brothers and sister....and of course, having a huge pile of leaves in the back of my dads truck and us driving through the country on top of the leaves. By the time we would get home, there were no leaves left to burn. We did this when our daughters were growing up as well. great memories!
6. Insert, your own random thought here.
My random thought is about the man in the photo above. The love of my life, the apple of my eye!! What can I do to help him feel better? What traditional medicine is out there? Dandelions? Ivermectin? Medicinal teas? I'm doing a little research. Sometimes we have to try other things especially when you are in a waiting period.
Happy Wednesday
Shug...๐

Shug, I especially enjoyed your answer to question #3...seeing life through a lens of gratitude. It makes life so much richer. Praying for you and Sam.
ReplyDeleteShug - I enjoyed your answers. You painted a delightful picture of kids riding on top of leaves in the back of a pick up truck. I was smiling big when I read about it. I hope you are having a great week!
ReplyDeleteHi Shug, I have to agree with you about the stores. In our case, in March the stores will start changing over to summer. We can get MAJOR snowstorms yet. One year our farm store had to order in more snowblowers in March because it starting snowing in March and did not stop!! Ha, that year our snow melted May 5th!! ;-) I have a photo of our son Atticus on the last little pile as it melted.
ReplyDeleteI am praying for you and Sam.
Love, Carla
Decades ago I worked part time at Macys and being one season ahead is just how the retail market has always done it. How about opening a new chain of stores and call it, IN SEASON?
ReplyDeleteOh it makes me sad that Sam still isn’t feeling so good. That must be hard to watch because we wish there was something we could do to ease their discomfort. The waiting and being patient through all of this must be challenging. Continued prayers for you and Sam. ๐๐ป
I've never heard of caramel pie, Shug, but if your grandmother made them, I'm sure they were beyond delicious. Prayers lifted for you and Sam each and every day. Blessngs!
ReplyDeleteHi, very nice blog, I am new, I follow you 215, maybe follow back?

I never heard of caramel pie! It sounds wonderful. I love the photo of you & Sam, with the apples on it. You are holding onto him so tightly, I can feel the love you have for each other.
ReplyDeleteHello my Lovely. I always enjoy seeing your answers to these. Amen to gratitude being the abundance of the heart I think everyone needs! I'm intrigued by caramel pie and I've never heard of it? Love the memory lane of your memories with family. Treasured ones for sure! Continue prayers of healing for Sam. ๐๐ป๐งก
ReplyDeleteI'm also frustrated by the way the stores rush the seasons... Caramel pie sounds wonderful - we need to hear more. I enjoyed your memories and I love that you passed this on to your girls!
ReplyDeleteOh my, I don't think I have every heard of caramel pie. I am going to look that up:) So funny that your grandma didn't offer you a piece. Sounds like my grandma!:) I'm right there with you and the stores rushing the seasons. Goodness -
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet to read how your words actions and love has shown up in the next generation.
ReplyDeleteYes!! I totally agree how shops are too quick to change season. It is getting colder here so I understand them selling sweaters and coats but there's so much Christmas things on the shelves and we've not even had Halloween yet.
What wonderful memories of playing in the leaves.
Sending love and hugs. Good luck with the traditional medicine.
You're wise to be researching alternate remedies for Sam.
ReplyDeleteUmmm, carmel pie sounds delightful. I have never heard of that either. I love everything caramel, especially a caramel sundae..
ReplyDeleteMy Dad was in the retail business as was my Hubby working at Sears. Our seasons were always way beyond the current season. Really dislike Christmas stuff while its still Summer.
I continue to pray for you and your sweet Sam. Praying you can find an alternative while you are in the waiting mode.
Love the photos of you and your Honey.
Sue
Hi there! Thank you for visiting my blog today. I love your answer about abundance. I have found, especially during this season of my life, that gratitude has changed my perspective on this word. I’m grateful for the small things - things that often go under appreciated or unnoticed by others. Such things enhance my life and fill it in ways that I never quite understood before.
ReplyDeleteanything with the word caramel has to be delish, Bob loves Publix Carmel apple pies and also walmart's. since I don't bake its that or nothing. in my paternal side of the family when someone is buttheaded (stubborn) we always say, he/she can't help it, its the McCall in them. the thing that drives me nuts, is the man next door has 3 pit bulls. they have no fence, he walks them out in front yard on leash to poop, except for Lucy and he lets her run loose. I walk early because he has the late time, I do sunrise he does 7:30. now I sunrise is at 7ish and he was out there yesterday and I could not get to my house because she runs off and he can't stop her.
ReplyDeleteI do the same for Bob, always looking for something that will help. Last week the visit rn could not get the INR machine to work to test his blood for Coumadin. because it gave a false high, doc took him off and wanted us to get a machine and I would do the testing. after much agonizing I ask the doctor to put him on eliquis that doesn't need testing... always a guard dog on the doctors is not fun either, another thing that makes me nuts.
My son Dan did not fall far from the apple tree, he and I are so much alike its hilarious except he is 6'5" and I am 5'4
I think we definitely have to be advocates for our own health and doing some research on your own can be helpful. I hope you find some solutions and the right care for your husband. I have never heard of or tasted caramel pie but it looks yummy! Hope you have a great rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteWaiting is the hardest Shug. We tried everything under the sun for my husbands many ailments during his hormone Chemo therapy. Something would maybe work and then it didn't. Is a second opinion an option? Are you confidant with Sam's Doctors? I am continuing to pray for you both.
ReplyDelete"Living in abundance is seeing life through a lens of gratitude...There is goodness all around us"
ReplyDelete๐ love that.
Gosh, I've never heard of a caramel pie -- but it sounds amazing. Yes, please! "Seeing life through a lens of gratitude" is one of the nicest things I've ever heard. Thank you! I'm proud to be among your and Sam's prayer warriors in the waiting.
ReplyDeleteCaramel pie. that sure does sound good. I'm with you, it drives me nuts seeing the seasons rushed in the stores
ReplyDeleteI think right now you are in God's waiting room - it must be so hard. I know Sam is the apple of your eye.
ReplyDeleteI love anything caramel. And I like your grateful attitude.
Sorry to read about the struggles your love is having. May God give wisdom and peace and direction to you. It was good to read all your answers today.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful post Shug. Thank you so much. I am praying for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you all my friends.
As a fellow Texan, I could not agree more with your #2 answer. Ninety degrees in mid-October is unacceptable! I buy sweaters for our time spent in Northern Indiana in December. They seldom get worn when I return. I do trust you will find something that works for your sweetie. This can be a frustrating endeavor.
