A Colorful Hodgepodge

A Colorful Hodgepodge

Hey Y'all ....It's a Hodgepodge Kind of Day....

Joyce ask the Questions.

We answer the Questions.

1.  Do you make an effort to see/hear live music? Last time you went somewhere for the live music?

Does a High School band count as live music?  If so, then I listened to our local High School band play as they marched in our town's Annual POW WOW this past Saturday...

2. According to HGTV the colors of the year for 2026 are mostly decided. Top paint companies declare a color of the year, and decorators will incorporate that into their new year home and room designs. Here's what's on tap in terms of paint trends for 2026 (check out the link here to see photos)

*Sherwin Williams - universal khaki

*Behr - hidden gem

*Valspar - warm eucalyptus

*Dutch Boy - melodious ivory

*Glidden - warm mahogany

*Krylon -matte coffee bean

*Clark and Kensington - Hazelnut Crunch

*Graham and Brown - divine Damson

*Dunn and Edwards - midnight garden

First Question - did you know there were so many different paint manufactures? Which color on the list most appeals to you in terms of your own decorating style? Do you have plans to do any painting in your home in the coming year, and if so might you choose a color from this list?

Most of these companies I have heard of...with the exception of the last 3 on the list.  My family has been in the home building business for YEARS.

I think my color out of these would be the Sherwin Williams....Universal khaki

Actually...I am in the process of selecting paint colors for my in-laws home that we are having painted.

No...I have already decided to go with Heirloom brand paint...."Irish Garden" for the bottom portion of the kitchen cabinets and "Snowbound" for the top cabinets.  The rest of the house will be snowbound as well

Now, forget painting walls, which color name appeals to you most?

None of the above...but I do like Sherwin Williams "Agreeable Grey."

3.  What's something in your life you have to do-watch-or participate in that's about as exciting as watching paint dry?

This one is pretty easy!! It is still 90 degrees and above here in East Texas.  I am still having to water 50 pot plants and with the heat and the humidity...this is one thing that is totally NOT exciting.  Watching paint dry is boring and I feel the same way about watering in the heat.

4. Tuesday, October 14th is /was National Dessert day...did you/will you celebrate? Tell us how? What's your absolute favorite dessert. Yes, just one..I know!!

Unfortunately, I did not participate in National Dessert Day!  Well...unless animal crackers are considered a dessert.

My absolute favorite dessert is: Egg Custard Pie...  this is an oldie and few people make it anymore.  My mom made the absolute BEST Egg Custard pie ever.  I usually can not stop with just one slice!!  Second favorite is...Just kidding! Joyce said only one!!

5. Perhaps today is the day I will.....................

I will try liver and onions!!  Who am I kidding...I have no desire to try liver and onions.

I've made peace with spinach, and I'll nibble on kale,

But liver and onions? That ship done sailed!

Even if Grandma says it's fine,

That duo just ain't this girl's design.

You can smother it, butter it, or try to disguise,

But one whiff of onions, and I roll my eyes!

So pass the biscuits, honey, and let's agree...

Liver and onions ain't ever for me!

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Totally Random Thought here:

I was in a Bath and Body Works store today to make a few gift purchases.  I do not know how the workers deal with all the different fragrances ALL DAY LONG.   In one corner of the store..someone is  spraying  "Pomegranate Citrus Fizz"

and on the other side of the store, the smell of "Merry Berry Martini" is circling around everywhere.  Add another 30 different scents, and WOW...It becomes difficult to breath.

Just saying...I don't think I could do it.

Hope you all have a Blessed Wednesday, and May your day be kind, cozy and as good as a warm cup of hot chocolate!!

  1. I am with you on the liver and onions. Nope. It's the one thing I just cannot eat. I am not at all picky but just the smell-ick. I also could not work in a Bath and Body works. Sometimes I feel that way in a candle shop. I couldn't handle the scents all day long. I wonder if you get used to it to the point you don't really notice? Seems unlikely but I suppose is possible. I love the paint color! So pretty! Enjoy your day and stay cool!

    1. IF liver and onions are prepared correctly (it rarely is) it's lovely. Shortly before she passed away I introduced my MIL to the dish and we would get together to eat it when Hubby was out for the night.

  2. The high school band sounds fab! I'd say it counts!
I love the colour of that Irish Garden pain! So pretty.
I love watering the plants in the summer but I am glad I don't have to at this time of year. We have had plenty of rain lately.
Egg Custard Pie is a blast from the past, I remember it being a big thing years ago.
I'm with you on not trying liver and onions, I've had it in the past and it's not my thing.
We have shops like that here, one that sells bath stuff and you can smell it before you even see the store! I always think they get people with no sense of smell to work in stores like that. lol

  3. Ha.. I am with you, I could never handle all those smells/fragrances going around and around all day.
And I am with you about liver and onions.
My grandma Martha made a wonderful egg custard pie, I wish I had her recipe.

  4. I cannot breathe around any fragrances anymore. It's tough, but yes, I don't know how those people can deal with all those scents at once. Animal crackers are my go to snack, that's so funny...and love your color choices for the cabinets. Dreamy...

  5. Good morning Shug. First off, get yourself a drip watering system for your potted plants. I don’t like watering plants that many plants. I used to enjoy it but burned myself out. Too much time wasted.
Oh my that pie looks delicious. It looks like a pie I may have had decades before -
I used to love my mom’s liver and onions as a child (I know, strange child) and I would go to this one restaurant to have it once a month when I was pregnant. Then all of a sudden, I no longer want it. Maybe liver burn-out?
I can’t do fragrances like that. Less is more. I like to aroma of clean and fresh air the best. Maybe one candle - that’s it.
Have a blessed day, friends. ๐ŸŒธ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒบ

  6. Shug, I always enjoy your answers to these questions. You make everything fun, but I can't begin to imagine watering 50 pots of plants in 90-degree weather! Take care my friend. Praying with you for good news on Monday when you and Sam see the oncologist.

This is a GREAT way to sell paint! ๐Ÿ˜€

  8. I love your Irish Garden paint color! That pie looks like a winner too. My hubby would be all about that.
I agree with the other, you need drip irrigation. That's how we water our plants.
Praying for your appt on Monday!

  9. Your poem about the liver and onions is right on for me too. My mom used to fix it once in a while for us but ugh, I never could stomach it.
I can't really go into candle shops or past the fragrance counters at stores.. Achoo ! immediately.
Oh that custard pie looks divine. My Mother in Law used to make the most delicious pie for us . Ummm, I can taste it now. Its all good stuff in it. Yumm.

  10. Absolutely NO liver & onions for this gal either. Can you believe that we may actually get some temps below 80 this next week? I can hardly wait and am already planning what to wear to church on Sunday. Now, if we could get a good rain with this cool front, we here in Plano would be happy people. Your paint color selection sounds lovely.

  11. I don't think I suffer from allergies, but the idea of spending more than a few minutes in a Bath 'n Beauty sure sounds icky. I love fried onions, but no way am I interested in even tasting liver.
One of these days I want to make my mom's recipe for egg custard pie. That was my father's all-time favorite!

  12. I wonder exactly HOW the yearly trending paint colors are chosen? I like looking at them, but only paint with a color I really like. I love your liver & onions poem! I never thought about the Bath & Body Works smells in there, good grief!

  13. 90 degrees! We are getting colder and colder. The leaves are nearly done.

  14. You are a hoot and a quick thinker. I love the poem on liver and onions. I have never tried it and I never will.
I used to go see live music - no more.
All those colors or lack of colors are in my grandson's house. Their house is devoid of any 'color'. It looks rich and nice and all that - but too perfect for me.
    Still 90? Phew!

  15. Oh my gosh, Shug, I know what you mean. I love browsing through Bath and Body Works during the holiday season, but I never gave thought to the workers who have to be in there smelling those scents all day long. Have never liked liver, but I love onions, and use them with almost every dish I make. That egg custard pie looks amazing. I can see why it's your favorite. How sweet that you have the best memories of your mom making this pie. The paint colors you chose for your in-laws' home sounds lovely. And a delightful poem you shared today, Shug. No liver and onions for me either. ; )

  16. I always get excited to plant so many things in the spring, but when the heat of summer lingers my excitement disappears! No liver for me. My mom used to cook it and I could never eat it.

  17. I never liked liver and onions until I got pregnant with my daughter. I’ve loved it ever since

  18. Dear Shug, I am not a fan of been liver...but I don't mind veal liver (I know it's the same animal, but the veal is the calf, the beef is the cow), and for some reason I find the veal gentler. I also like chicken livers. But I only eat liver perhaps twice a year.
I absolutely love lamb, though, I would have it more often if it weren't so expensive.

  19. I used to love calves liver but haven’t had it in years. Custards were another of my loves that I haven’t had in years.

  20. We stay out of stores with perfumes, so many fragrances that make it hard to breathe. That is so many pots to water...you should have Sam set up an automatic watering drip system for you:)

  21. Oh hon, I'm with you on the liver and onions - that's a hard no from me! Custard pie is so good - great dessert choice. I made a white squash pie on the weekend and it's similar - very light and just a touch of sweetness. Hope you're having a great week!
